My last car that wasn't AWD…

My last car that wasn't AWD was a 1989 Ford Taurus SHO.  My driveway has a pretty decent slope to it and an inch of snow would make it almost impossible to get the SHO into my garage without shoveling.  I also had a major adrenaline rush event one winter day in that car.  That car sold me on the value of winter tires, but AWD makes getting a car up my driveway on slippery days much easier.

I've owned many Audis since then..A4s, A6s, and a Q5.  The latest is my 2018 Audi A5.  You put winter tires on that car and its pretty much unstoppable.  I also like how Audi has shifted the drive bias rearward with this car having a 60/40 rear to front drive ratio.  The car behaves much more like a RWD car when going through the twisties.  My previous car was a BMW 335i with Xdrive and it was also great car to drive.  Snow tires made it pretty unstoppable too.

I make a killer blueberry-peach pie, but my all time favorite is cherry pie made with freshly picked cherries.  It’s the best and one of the joys of summer.  If someone offers you banofee pie, order it.  Yummy!

The Rich Rod/Hoke years got me to dial things back.  Still, I just renewed my season tickets because I enjoy the ride and look forward to the next chapter.

These were people using AT&T…

These were people using AT&T's spectrum that they bought through various spectrum auctions.  It's private spectrum, not public spectrum where Wi-Fi operates.

To address emergency workers…

To address emergency workers, a whole chunk of spectrum was set aside and used to build a national network devoted to emergency workers.  It's up and running.  You can prioritize traffic, but if the network is slammed with capacity demands, all the prioritization in the world won't save you.  It's just too much demand for the limited amount of spectrum available.

Can’t believe you were able…

Can’t believe you were able to write this while I’m still trying to soak in that a group of freshmen that went through the crucible loss vs. UGA at the Orange Bowl two years ago just made it happen.  I was at that game, being very dejected, getting on the bus to hear the guy next to me say, “Well, that sucked.”  I saw JJ and Donovan watching Georgia celebrate on the field.  They set the goal, fell short against TCU last year and closed the deal this season.  They made it happen.  Go Blue!

I’ve been keeping myself…

I’ve been keeping myself busy all day to not get keyed up for the game and, well, I clearly ended that by getting on MGoBlog.  Been feeling pretty confident after beating Bama, all that confidence is out the window now.  Might have to combine game watching with walking on my treadmill to work through the nervous energy.

In the days of Rich Rod, the no huddle offense could execute a 3 and Out in less than a minute.  Then the poor damn defense had to get back on the field again….

The vines are from Portugal…

The vines are from Portugal and were planted in the late 1940s after WWII.  The climate in the Fresno area is very similar to port growing regions in Portugal.  The wine master knows what he is doing, too.  There's 40 year old port in their inventory.

I appreciate your concern for my mental health.  The guys in the white jackets are telling me I'm doing fine.

Standing rib roast, Yorkshire pudding, balsamic glazed carrots, mashed potatoes with gravy with deviled eggs as an appetizer. Sanders fudge bumpie cake for dessert with vanilla ice cream.  Also, to wash down dessert, some nice port wine from Ficklin Vineyards in Fresno, CA.  If you love port wine, you need to check this place out.

Only played 11 regular season games back then, so he was always known as 8-3 Earle.  On the other hand, Frank Solich was Mr. 9-3 at Nebraska.

Bo was definitely a “dance…

Bo was definitely a “dance with who brung ya’” guy to borrow from Keith Jackson.  We trotted out the same stuff that we did all season.

Against TCU last year, it seemed like we made some assumptions about how the running game was going to work and boy were they bad assumptions.  Maybe over thinking things?  TCU had a plan that we didn’t anticipate. We got behind and that was the end of the running game.

We need to go against our tendencies and let JJ loose.

I have a friend that lives in the LA area and he told me that parking for the Rose Bowl and getting out after the game is pretty bad.  Major traffic snarl.  Get a hotel room near the airport for the night.

I remember those days all…

I remember those days all too well.  Things got so dark on the board I'd stay away from it for several days at at time to keep from going down that hole.

Jim Harbaugh refreshed his staff, created a new plan and implemented that plan which has us all in a much better place today.  Still wish we could get a few more Top 100 recruits like JJ, though.

Wilson broke the plane of the goal line after taking several steps with, at worst, simultaneous possession which goes to the offense anyway.  I was just glad it was called a TD on the field, so they'd need major proof to overturn the call.

I’ve had the problem.  If I clear the cache for the last day or two, things go back to normal….which is that things are on the slow side.  I have more frequent issues with using my iPad than with my iPhone.

I have a 2018 Audi A5 with only 33K miles on it.  With mileage that low, yes, I'm a pretty good candidate for an electric vehicle.  I'm going to watch the market of new EV roll outs over the next few years.  The 2025 model year might be my point to jump back into the market.

If you think auto loan rates are bad now, you should have seen what they were in 1983 when I bought my first new car.

Sitting down to enjoy a dorm room worthy pizza and beer dinner.  NY style pizza and a Bud because that’s about all the energy we have to put into a meal.  Drove back from our place in Canada on Lake Huron and it took two frickin’ hours to cross the Blue Water Bridge.  Hope they get done on time in October.  Going to raise hell with a few of our trips there during football season.

It’s useful when I travel and have to use open Wi-Fi networks in hotels.  You get some security to shield your traffic.  It’s also useful for me when I’m at our house in Canada and I want to watch shows I’ve recorded on Xfinity at home.  As stated by someone else, it was requirement for WFH with my previous employer.

Based on what you provided, you probably don’t need one.

I was a happy Samsung…

I was a happy Samsung Android guy for years.  Wife was iPhone because it was easiest to use.  I spent so much time doing IT support for her, I gave up and switched to iPhone so I could just clone what I was doing on her phone.  We are now both on iPhone 14.  I’m pretty sure iPhone 14 has the radio capabilities to access some of the new 5G spectrum Verizon and others are turning up.  I think the Michigan Stadium game day service issues will improve this Fall.  FYI…I’m a Verizon customer.

My first mobile phone was…

My first mobile phone was that model with the skinnier battery and the short stubby antenna.  Did not fit in my skinny and fashionable hard side leather briefcase.  Must have been 1991 or 1992 when I got it.  I was working at Bell Labs in the Wireless Telecom business which was a very quiet backwater infrastructure business for AT&T.  We were on the cusp of nationwide roaming and 3G which threw the whole business into overdrive.

I fondly remember the Computer Engineering lab where we took punch cards, feed them through a reader that created a paper punch tape which we then read into a really old Teletype terminal for upload into the Intel lab computers.  I think those computers were actually 8080s.  Don't remember any of the programs actually being very useful.  It was all and exercise in dealing with microprocessor based systems.  The AMD 2900 bit slice stuff was much more fun and actually helped me land my first job at Bell Labs.

When I bought a 2017…

When I bought a 2017 Cadillac XT5, I was so sure I needed the roof racks because I would occasionally use them on our previous Audi Q5.  The Audi racks were really easy to get on and off the vehicle.  The racks for the XT5 have gathered dust in the basement ever since I got them.  Not easy to use and, given the XT5 has more interior volume than the Q5, the need for putting something on the roof isn't really there anymore.  A relatively cheap case of overkill.

My 2011 BMW 335Xi had more performance than needed for it's primary use, but I always pushed it through highway on and off ramps to bring a smile to my face.  Those grippy summer tires worked wonders.

My mom could be very sneaky…

My mom could be very sneaky.  When I got my first job after graduation from U-M, my new employer, AT&T, paid for one moving van of stuff to my new apartment in IL.  I had already started the job, so my mom said she would handle getting the few pieces of furniture and some boxes of clothes on the truck.  Truck arrives and it's full of stuff my Mom wanted to dump.  A huge old console color TV (that didn't work, of course), boxes of toys I never knew she had saved, old china and pots and pans collected from various deceased family members, the ugliest chair you can imagine from the 1970s, etc.  I've been looking for an opportunity to do the same to my kids, but it doesn't look like that will ever happen.

A good friend of mine had a 1980s era Chevette and as it aged, he decided he was going to drive the car until it died.  He knew rust was lurking on the underside of the car, but wasn't quite sure how bad.  One rainy day, he hit a pothole pretty hard.  A chunk of the floorboard fell out and a geyser of water shot into the car knocking off his baseball cap.  He got a heavy floor mat to cover the hole and drove the car a few more years before it was mercifully hauled off to a salvage yard.

I've owned 5 Audis, the first being a 1986 Audi 4000S and they've all had no issues with rust.  Then again, if you wash the salt off periodically during the winter, that sure helps any car.  The "under carriage" wash is your friend.

I'm pretty sure the Saturn V never had a launch failure.  It was a perfect score for the largest analog machine ever built.

I hope the test goes well, because I'm all on in returning to the Moon and finding a way to build a permanent moon base.  That's the gateway to Mars.  The Gemini and Apollo missions I watched as a kid are what inspired me to get a computer engineering degree at Michigan.  We need more engineers, so I hope this inspires another generation, too.
