What sophomores are we worried about getting poached? Or do you mean guys like Amorion Walker and Darrius Clemons (sp?)? Guys who may not have been able to crack the rotation and are just looking for new opportunities.

I take 'poaching' to mean some teams are coming after key contributors / starters.

This was going to be a tough sell for anyone who was on the fence, especially for guys who already have been here 4 or 5 years. So much about 2024 is going to be a new world (18 team B1G, 12 team playoff, potential new HC) that it makes sense to me to go out on top if it was a close decision, regardless of NIL.

With Persi behind on two deep last two years with a start, plus Gentry being like 24 years old I’d imagine one of those two have marinated enough to step up, similar with Crippen and El-Hadi.

Little disappointing since I think he could have been a borderline All-American with another year. But I'm grateful for his patience, his grace, and what he did for this program. Best of luck, Trente!

obviously we all wish him and our other NFL guys the uber-best, but i'd be interested in knowing his measurables.  i have a feeling he will test very well for a big guy - speed, vert, etc.  sure hope so.

Bummer.

There is no way we can be throwing a freshman / inexperienced QB out there nest year.

We will need an experienced - and mobile - QB playing.  We are not going to be just running the ball at will down people's throats next year.

Good luck to him.  I am intrigued to see the next generation of Michigan o-linemen get their moment in the sun.  Losing the top 6 guys to the draft (LD, Keegan, Nugent, Zinter, Barnhart/Jones), so it'll be a changing of the guard for sure.  I expect a pretty solid line to emerge from the guys who've been marinating in the S&C program for a few years now (El-Hadi, Crippen, Anderson, Gentry, Persi, Bounds) plus portal guys like Hinton (and guys who might also portal in this spring).

Won't begrudge Trente making a decision that makes sense for him. A truly unselfish warrior and I wish him the best.

It's moments like this when I wish Michigan published a reliable three-deep position chart.

There are lots of OL folks on the roster, but who is ready to play RT?

Anderson? Persi? Herring?

I'm aware that there's a big difference between a guard's frame and wingspan and that of a tackle, but I don't know enough about any of these guys' technique and ability. We fans were spoiled by immense depth at tackle this season; now, not as much.

Hinton is a right tackle. At the beginning of last season, the program preferred playing Barnhart at LT to Hinton. LT is going to the winner of the Persi/Gentry battle. Both of those guys are prototypical left tackles. Both are 22 years old. They’ve marinated long enough. I hope the loser of that position battle doesn’t transfer. We need the depth.

Can't wait to see the Defense this fall.  They are going to be great.  Just need a few more D-line guys to become rotation pieces.

EDIT: Thought I was on the "Rod Moore is staying" page.  Good luck Trente!

I thought he said he was back weeks ago? Damn, this one stings just because I had him mentally penciled in which made me less nervous about the state of the OL next year. But best of luck to someone who stuck around longer than 99% would have.

Was hoping he would run it back but I think he played himself into a draft pick.

Hinton, Priebe, Crippen, El-Hadi, Gentry should be a solid line backed by Persi at OTs and Anderson on the IOL. There are a couple other guys who could take the leap plus an awesome OL class.

You all need the UFR’s from the playoffs and you will be singing a different tune. Dude played lights out against elite players. Go get paid and thanks for being the best 6th Olineman in the nation!

Dang, no returning starters on OL? Has that happened here since 2008?

Bummed to hear the news, but best of luck to Trente. He proved himself on the field

Good luck to him.

Kind of disappointed, but it isn’t my life. But OL is the one position I feel confident that Michigan will be fine at. Crippen, Anderson, and Gentry come on down.

Go get paid young man!

And aside, it just seems weird that we're EXPECTING guys to come back for a 6th year. By that point most people are ready to get on from college.

Many people are working on graduate degrees in their 6th year,  even doctoral. Almost none of them have the opportunity to earn NIL doing it either.

But one thing they do have is the knowledge that when they complete that their earnings potential will be greatly increased.

Trente's too...

Trente has plenty of good tape out there and was a 5th/6th lineman on Joe Moore award winning line. I'd bet he impresses with his knowledge of NFL schemes and winds up drafted.
