As a USC ticket holder I love seeing Michigan fans throw out names of former failed USC head coaches.  Sark and Kiffin are great offensive minds...but they lack the character and leadership to be a successful head coach.  They both continue to fail upwards for some unknown reason.  They should both be very high paid offensive coordinators on a top 10 college program.  That is their ceiling.

He wasn't doing that bad  to ESPN rarecruiting. He brought in the 7th most ESPN 300 recruits during his time now that is just ESPN recruits so compared to 247 composite I am not sure.   Really not to bad I think most Fans would take that considering how most SEC teams and Clemson offer incentives to play at their schools.   Maybe Texas does also but haven't ever heard anything.

What exactly is my logic? The coach they hired is still coaching. They did the decent thing and allowed him to get to the National championship without all kinds of distractions. Matt Campbell might get hired somewhere else after today, who knows and I don't care. He's playing in a bowl that outside of their fanbase, no one will really pay attention to. I don't think the decision hurt Tom Herman. They still have to pay the guy. Why do you give a shit about Tom Herman's feelings? His New Year started out with a $15 million buyout check.

To put it simply, your logic is shitty.

They didn’t “do it right” at any point in this process. Publicly courting another coach while your coach is still on the job? Announcing you’re sticking with your coach? Firing him after you said that and a big bowl win? Having the new coach ready to take the job before you’ve even fired your guy (implying you did a coaching search behind his back).

Oh but they did a GREAT thing by letting their new guy coach in the semis right? As if he wasn’t going to do that anyway?

That's an interesting point, i don't know what's taking so long, but it's frustrating.

After last night, I'm convinced that if given the choice to improve one unit, it would be the offense. I'd rather our offense be as productive as OUs, OSU, or Bama, than close the gap on Defense.

It’s been explained multiple times on the board what is taking so long. I’ll explain it one more time and after that, I can’t help you.

One of two things is going to happen. Jim Harbaugh is going to coach an NFL team next season, or he’s going to coach Michigan. He’s not being fired, and he’s not going to step down without an NFL job. The NFL season ends tomorrow, at which point there’s an event called “Black Monday,” where coaches across the league are fired.

Harbaugh will then be able to assess his interest in said jobs (and their interest in him) and decide to interview. Harbaugh then can weigh his options/contracts between the NFL and Michigan and decide from there what it is that he wants to do.

You all want a decision from Harbaugh before those NFL options are even on the table for him, and it’s simply not realistic. NFL teams have to go through the interview process and with things like the Rooney Rule in place, hires can’t be made without an extensive interview process of multiple candidates. Which can’t happen until the season ends.

The middle of next week or the week after is probably the time when we will have a decision. But expecting a decision before the options are even placed in front of Harbaugh is just dumb. This was ALWAYS the timeline for a Harbaugh decision once it became clear he was going to at least entertain the NFL.

Harbaugh is still under contract for next season. This isn’t like his contract ends tomorrow and we need an answer right now. There is no rush on getting an extension done before the NFL season ends. It’s just fans being impatient and wanting answers.

Its NFL or Michigan and you all want answers before the NFL even has their say.

So considering Matt Campbell is coaching today, you’d be willing to eat a bag of lemons and apologize for your criticisms of Warde Manuel if Jim moves on and we hire Campbell in the next week?

You’ve bitched for weeks about how long Michigan is taking, but have nothing but praise for Texas doing something today? Nothing but praise about the shitty optics behind publicly courting Meyer while Herman was employed? Nothing but praise about announcing Herman would be back a week before signing day, only to have a behind the scenes coaching search and fire him three weeks later?

GTFOH with that nonsense. Texas handled this like shit. It has terrible optics, cost them a shitload of money, and all you can fall back on is “well they got it done quicker than we did,” when the current timeline is absolutely irrelevant. Whether it’s done today, tomorrow, next week, or the week after is absolutely irrelevant.

Certainly not all to the same extent. Most successful coaches don't bounce around every two years back and forth between NFL and college rotating between head coaching, coordinator and analyst positions.

Maybe he'll find his footing at UT for years to come. Much more likely he's off to the NFL again for an OC position after he gets fired in three years.

He should! The Texas job should be the easiest in the country. UT is sitting in the middle of elite recruiting grounds (probably as good as Florida) and has traditionally been the most attractive school to the majority of the high school kids in the state. (Probably not as strong an edge there as it was before their recent struggles but still strong.) They have a huge income  (including their own successful tv network) and a vast, very rich, committed, involved, and enthusiastic group of supporters (alumni and others). It is incredible that they have been so mediocre for this long.

IDK, does it take more 'stones' to keep coaches or to burn through them like Nebraska -- to similarly bad (or worse) results?  Texas also had the 'stones' to hire Charlie Strong and Tom Herman when things weren't working.  I guess it sounds like a good thing to say on sports talk radio for a day.

Meanwhile our comatose head coach gets another year to stand on the sideline with his mouth hanging open as we run on 2nd and 13.

As a former Clemson fan, soon to be (hopefully) Bama fan and still hanging by a thread Michigan Fan, I endorse this message. I want my guy to succeed in the worst way, but yep, comatose is where he is at.

Now? The timing seems weird. Wonder if they are going to announce Matt Campbell after his game today. Maybe the boosters upped their offer.
