Maybe?  I mean, aren’t people always saying that WE aren’t paying the coach? So sure, it’s not my money.  I’d take a swing at Herman or Sark if my only other option is Harbaugh.  Hell, Ole miss just extended kiffin at 4yr/16mil, which is way less than we pay Harbaugh and probably what we could grab Herman for.  Herman has a great bowl record, knows the OSU program and is a good recruiter.  Mediocre Herman seems a lot cheaper than mediocre Harbaugh.

This firing smells like it is due to the boosters after watching yesterday’s games and seeing how competent other teams are. A normal AD would not fire his headcoach after saying he will retain him.

Texas only gives their coaches 3 to 4 seasons to win a conference title. But Michigan will end up giving Harbaugh another 5 and he probably will not beat OSU under his new 5 year deal.

I know this isn’t a popular opinion, but I think if we fired Harbaugh on Monday, Herman should be a candidate for HC.  He’s a great offensive mind.  We’d get him at a discount.  He had great offenses everywhere he has been. He needs a good DC.  I’d much rather have him than Fickell if we are discussing hiring former OSU coaches.  Just to clarify, Campbell still would be my number one choice.

I agree. 4-0 in bowl games. Has connections in Ohio and Texas. Great offenses. Knows OSU’s program. I think he did better at Houston than what Fickell has done at Cincinnati. This wouldn’t be his first time leading a Power 5 program. Maybe he could bring his star freshman running back and sophomore quarterback with him. I wouldn’t hate that hire at all.

If Harbaugh is such a great choice for Michigan and he is so dedicated, why hasn't he accepted the offer on the table?  I'll tell you why, cuz he's no different than any other coach. Its all about the money.

Please, can we move on from JH and get the best coach we can that DOES NOT have ties to Michigan

Thank you! I have never understood this. UM will not fire Harbaugh because he is a football hero/good guy/tremendous representative of the University. He really doesn’t need any more money. So how committed is he to the program if a) he won’t sign a lower contract reflecting his record or b) UM is Plan B depending on NFL offers? Why is the AD content to be sloppy seconds if JH doesn’t get what he wants from the NFL?

I predict that Herman will land in a nice place and Sarkisian will be let go from Texas after 4 years.

I don't see a worthwhile rationale for this move.

If we get Harbaugh at a paycut we should be bringing him in as an analyst a la Alabama and every decent fired coach of the last 5 years. Lets fire the money cannon in some fashion since it clearly won't be for Matt Campbell

This is ridiculous but typical of the lunacy in college football today.  They're paying $24 million for people to not work after laying off many people in their athletic department.  They're firing a coach with a winning record and likely downgrading to a coach with a worse record and very problematic personal history.  Hopefully, Sarkisian can succeed and I believe he deserves a chance to overcome some of his past problems.  But Texas is paying a lot of money just for a major gamble.
