It might make Sam's head explode however Justin Fields has shown all the Bears fans he is something that can be built around in the hopes of one day being, dare we think it with the talent around him, Jalen Hurts?

Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

I'm not convinced Goff is the long-term answer, but I think he's good enough you wait for someone better than Stroud, who just looks soft to me.

If they do take him it will make for a nice contrast between Michigan Lions fans maybe not liking the pick but still wanting him to succeed, and Sparty Lions fans hoping a #2 draft pick is a bust, solely because of where he played in college.

My biggest peeve with NFL GM's is the wasting of draft picks and salary capital on QB's who are not "franchise" QBs just because you "need" a QB a particular year in the draft. Stroud seems like a guy who's going to get the benefit of the Akili Smith - Tim Couch type supply-demand dynamic in this year's draft w.r.t. QBs.

For the Lions, they're still far enough away from real title contention they're find with sticking with Goff who has shown he's good enough to get into the playoffs and win a little, build other positional strength via the draft, and then next year after another year of evaluation and play, you can make the call on whether to draft a QB (looks much stronger than this year's class) or go after a bigger free agent play to get that immediate jump (Aaron Rogers?) with a limited window.

This one is very simple. If Holmes drafts Stroud, he will be fired. Hey Brad, you wanna be fired? No? Then don't draft Stroud.

Defense, defense, defense in this draft. Then make a playoff run in 2023. Profit.

If Ben Johnson stays, Goff is fine. Not sure we want to give him a giant contract, but it might be unavoidable if we stick with him.

Here's why that's dumb....the value of the #4 pick for the Lions where they are does not align to picking a QB.  Stroud isn't a good enough prospect to use that pick for a team that is ready to fight for the playoffs.  If you're Carolina or Houstan you might spend the #4 pick on Stroud because you're desperate.  Detroit can be picky since they have Goff, they're closer to contending, and they have two first round picks.

I think the Lions are definitely taking defense at #4 unless someone wants to trade for the pick.  I do think the Lions will keep their options open at QB with their own pick later in the round to see if someone drops.  If Stroud fell to #13, I think they'd take him and I wouldn't HATE it (even if Stroud seems like a bust candidate).

In what round?

If they're talking about using the Rams pick on him... 100% no. The best way to kill the progress the franchise has made is to reach for the wrong QB. And I don't think Stroud is the right guy by any stretch of the imagination.

It's not a question of Goff, even, but Goff's recent performance give the Lions the luxury of knowing they can win games with him. It's a question of what happens to a franchise when you pick a QB high in the first round: it affects everything else.

The Lions have the opportunity to build a strong roster with some high picks. Stroud is, right now, not a very good looking NFL prospect to me. He can throw an accurate ball... and basically nothing else.

No thanks.

No thank you. Not even because of the Buckeye thing, more because I don't think he responds well to pressure and he'd see a lot more of it in the NFL compared to the B1G.

The only "1st round" QB I'd want them to consider is Bryce Young if he's there with the Rams' pick, but he's likely going to Houston so go D in the 1st. Holmes and Campbell have drafted incredibly well thus far so I have faith they won't reach for a QB.

Besides, Lamar Jackson is going to sign with the Lions as a free agent after the 23-24 season when he's off the Franchise Tag.

If the Lions front office want to prove they aren't like the morons of the past who held the same positions, they'll take a hard pass on drafting that mental case from that dumpster of a college in Columbus. Stroud's brains are scrambled from all of the looks he couldn't decipher from Michigan over the last two season. We saw how he broke down when he came up against an NFL style D. Those Michigan D's will haunt him till the day he leaves this mortal coil.

This would be a huge mistake, especially with how Goff is playing (remember, he too was a top pick).

But I like Stroud in this spot and hope he plays well (but loses) against Georgia so some other team will trade up for him.

I think Stroud will be a league average QB before he's done, but I just don't see that he has the ceiling to warrant a top of the first round selection.  Use the first pick on Anderson (please be there) or another elite defensive talent.  If Stroud is around later, fine, but if you have a top 5 pick you need someone with HOF equity and yeah just not there.

Mock drafts have their purpose.  Of course, that purpose is to get people talking about them, to generate web traffic, which drives up ad revenue.  To that end, a mock draft with nonsensical projections peppered in is far more effective than one that has everyone going, "Sure, that makes sense," and moving on.

Speaking of which. . . well done, suckers.

I don't want to see Lions go QB early but I want a QB. Lets get a Tom Brady in say the 6th or 7th round! I do NOT want Stroud. Some of the throws he made in the Michigan game were NFL level throws and placement I think he lacks some of the intangibles but since I think this he will probably be a high level All Pro for ten years in the NFL

A lot of mock drafts have Stroud to the Lions. I don't get it, Goff is only 28 and is Stroud's ceiling that much higher? It would be funny having Hutchinson and Stroud on the same team though.

The Lions drafting Stroud would be a terrible, horrible, no good, and very bad decision. So of course the Lions would do it. Ugh. I just rewatched the 45-23 beatdown again and it was glaringly obvious that if Stroud has to move around in the pocket and/or check to a different his accuracy greatly suffers. That doesn't happen in the NFL, does it?

No. Just...no.

Way to kill the buzz around the Lions' current streak. Drafting Stroud would be the equivalent of  Michigan football making the playoffs for the first time then Harbaugh interviewing with the Colts or another NFL team. Can you imagine if something like that were to happen? Awful, just awful.

Stroud struggles so much when he faces any pressure at all that I am worried that the Lions will draft him and he will be no good. QBs see so much pressure in the NFL, even with the best offensive line, that he will need to get TONS better in this area to be successful.

Fields is having a solid year b/c they allowed him to run instead of sit in the pocket and throw.  Doesn't mean he's a good passer though.  Stroud doesn't bring that ability.  And while he's a better passer I was miffed by his body language during our game not to mention his performance and I wouldn't want him as our Lions QB.

CJ Stroud - Seen here braving the fierce winds and blizzard conditions at Michigan Stadium before a sub-zero temp game. Little known to most, he struggled with walking pneumonia, COVID, and had a collapsed lung, just prior to game time.

Legend has it, he was the only one who was willing to brave the elements and stride onto the field that day. 1 vs 11, he fought the good fight and kept OSU within 2 scores for much of the game. With a scraggly bunch of first round pick WRs, a "great" OL, and the coaching staff from God himself, he did it all.

But then, he sneezed. And it was not to be...

Fight on brave warrior. Live to fight another day!

Noooooo NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOO!!!!!!

When the Lions first got Goff, I thought he'd be replaced in this draft.  But he's playing well enough that they can keep him and concentrate on defense.  Get a QB in next year's draft - they're not a SB team next year, anyway.

As for Stroud - don't touch him with a 10' pole that someone else is holding!  I don't see much evidence that he can hit a target #2, and if he has to move it's all over.  If UGA does a thing to him that is anything like what Minter did, he'll be a 6th rounder at best.

Also, he's soft.  Can anyone really imagine CJ Stroud playing for Dan Campbell?  LMAO!!!

Stroud is a college quarterback. If he's lucky he'll be drafted high by a team that cannot evaluate talent, then he'll be exposed in the spotlight and won't get re-signed. If he very lucky he'll fall to the late rounds and spend a long and boring career as a journeyman backup, connecting nfl money into his 30s without ever having to show he's clearly not an NFL quarterback.

Goff will be the starter here for at least the next 2 years. Also not sold on CJ at all. Not a leader and not that great. We're fine on O and can draft someone like Corum in 3rd or 4th round.

Use Rams pick for either Carter from UGA, Robinson from Bama, or Murphy from Clemson.

Use our own pick for a CB like Porter Jr or Witherspoon.

Take a late flyer on a QB if you'd like, someone like Purdy for the 49ers from the past draft.

But did we really expose any flaws in his game? In 2022, He went 31-48, 2 tds, 349 yards 2 picks late in the game as it was slipping away. In 2021, he went 34-49, 2tds, 394 yards passing. In the NFL, against an NFL-type defense in Michigan, you would take these statlines all day long (minus the picks).
