I saw a segment with him yesterday where he was talking about this and the negatives that he mentioned was that Stroud wasn't athletic enough to be creative, if you pressure him his passing breaks down and he makes bad decisions. I have no idea why an NFL team would draft a QB at #4 with those negatives ESPECIALLY from Ohio State which is known to produce busts at that position.

Over his last 6 games he has a 67% completion percentage 9 TD, 5 INT, 95.9 QB rating, 7.5 Y/A.  His PFF grades and QBR have shown a vast improvement from earlier in the year.   Not elite numbers but better than most people think.  And he's doing it with a bunch of players who won't be in the NFL next year.  He definitely has room to grow.  Maybe he tops out there and is an average passer, who knows I'm biased as a Bears fan.  But I think he can sustain his overall play while running less.

Also I cringe every time I think that my favorite team's QB is from Ohio State, so I don't think about it.  But I've embraced him, and the Lions fanbase would too if they drafted Stroud, assuming he's not a bust (which he very well could be).

Yeah but doesn’t that success stem from using him in the running game now much more? To me it looks like a trade off. They wanted him to get to the league and be able to throw already. That didn’t happen so they’ve opened up the riskier playbook and featured him in the run game. Defenses will adjust to that. I see Cam Newton lite as his future. Obviously we’ll see,

The story on Stroud has been that he's super accurate unless pressured, yes. But what really surprised me during The Game was that he also struggled when Michigan didn't bring pressure. Leads me to believe he's a 1-read QB and I couldn't imagine investing a top pick in someone who can't process information quickly enough to adapt.

He may be more of a 1 read guy because he has all world weapons constantly who are always open. Its less a read and more... who do i share with today? Then he faces some adversity and struggles. Plus, by all accounts our defense has NFL aspects to it, and that would give me pause as a GM.

Also, he's soft. You can see it on his face. He looks like a whiner. I don't think he's a quitter but he tends to crumble under pressure.

You see Goff doing well and then replace him? Get more pieces. I'm not a lions fan but i do like rooting for them.

I actually think the Lions like Goff and will stick with him at least another year. I watched the game on Sunday and he actually looked pretty good playing behind the Lions OL. My other thought was that TB12 is going to be looking for a new team with a lot of weapons who could "win now." If the Lions add a couple more good players on defense they could be an ideal destination that doesn't have the problem of a young high pick QB (like the 9ers have with Trey Lance).

His standard facial expression is "I'm about to cry".  Weird as hell for a man, especially one in a leadership position.  I'd maybe take him in a late round as a flyer.  I don't think he has what it takes to make it professionally.  And if he played for a less talented team in college we would have never heard of him at all.

Yeah I would hate to see my team draft Stroud. Dude is a 7 on 7 QB. He's got an NFL arm and accuracy when all's good but

  • Hates running
  • Gets flustered under pressure
  • Seems to be a 1 read QB and turns into a checkdown artist

And honestly he seems quiet out there. Not sure he's leading a team on his own. Maybe he'll pan out, but I don't think he's got what it takes to be an NFL QB that is constantly under pressure and constantly having to throw into tight windows

Please no, hard pass.  Go heavy on defense and rework Goff's contract.  Goff is playing well enough.  Will Anderson on the opposite side of Hutch and another corner is the dream.

If Campbell and Holmes are dumb enough to do that, you can stick a fork in their tenures with the Lions. It would be as bad a selection as Andre Ware.

I'm not convinced Campbell has what it takes to get the Lions over the hump, but I think he's smarter than that. Same with Holmes, so far.

Exactly right Don, I was on POD 3 years ago begging not to take Okudah and I was right, he's just a guy and nothing special, certainly not worthy of the #3 pick that he was. CB's taken that high need to show out right away, like Sir Charles, Champ Bailey, Deion, Ramsey...look at Sauce Gardner already.

Stroud will be a bust in the NFL, a journeyman at best, a decent backup maybe.

Also, Justin Fields runs the ball way too much and he ain't gonna last long term, no way. His passing is pretty average too.

Drafting CJ Stroud in the first round could be what kills him. I don’t think he’s in a position to just draft a QB because. I’m surprised to say that, right now, Goff is the right QB. I’m very happy he’s been good enough to prevent them from drafting a QB. There just hasn’t been any worth the pick the last two years (Maybe Young this year I wouldn’t hate but I would hate trading up for him), and sometimes coaches feel the pressure to draft one. The lions are in a great position right now and I will be the first to say I didn’t see it coming. At least not like this. The Rams completely imploding this year really helps though. At the time it seemed the trade for Stafford wasn’t going to net big results. Oh and add in Jameson Williams. We may be on to something in Detroit finally. If Dan Campbell can get us a playoff win I will be ecstatic.

As a non-Lions fan, I think any Lions fan who currently doesn't want to ride with Goff is an idiot. He's 28, got the Lions' offense humming and they're not even particularly healthy, and they're winning games. Build around him at QB and you have a solid team

Agreed. This team has chemistry and that's what creates teams like 2021 and 2022 Michigan. Don't fuck with that unless something changes. It's a QB league. Goff is showing himself to be exactly the type of guy the Lions need to compete at a high level. He's expensive but worth it if he plays like this.

I really don't want this guy.  Something about him on the field gives me the impression he's not a leader.  The results definitely indicate the OSU sum is less than the parts.
