Santa Ono's Letter to the Big Ten
November 4th, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
Clear, concise, accurate.
Like Santa, the Maizinator is <once again> on point.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:11 PM ^
Prez!
November 4th, 2023 at 2:11 PM ^
Holy shit. He just made me smile and actually tear-up a little. Ono is an instant legend...
November 4th, 2023 at 2:11 PM ^
Unequivocal. And if any other team was in our position, this is the letter they would write (or would want written by someone like Santa).
November 4th, 2023 at 2:35 PM ^
He doesn’t use crayon. Might confuse them.
November 4th, 2023 at 4:02 PM ^
Hallers letter would have been incoherent dribble full of statements like “what about Juwan?”
November 4th, 2023 at 11:41 PM ^
Haller has already claimed equivalence between (alleged) sign stealing and assault committed on national TV.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
Fucking Boss
That’s how it’s done, friends. Take note
November 4th, 2023 at 2:15 PM ^
Fuck yeah. My man
November 4th, 2023 at 2:15 PM ^
Damn Ono. You Go President. Nice job. UM is going to fight this and B1G better back off and not piss off your cash cow. NCAA has it's own problems with the lawsuit. It almost looks like if anything happens it will be after this year.
I am glad this letter is out now. This is the way to fight back.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:16 PM ^
Good! Fuck Petitti and fuck the rest of the Big Ten. Absolute fucking joke they wanted something to happen before a formal investigation is completed.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:16 PM ^
I am impressed Pettiti had the nerve to show up after the letter honestly, if it was made available to him prior to the meeting. Well done, Santa.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:29 PM ^
It definitely says something that it didn't give him pause before allegedly coming in like a bull in a china shop with respect to immediate punishment.
If he's relying on advisors he needs to find new ones.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:33 PM ^
It’s bluster. He holds a weak hand, because Santa is right, but certain Charmin Soft coaches are on his ass. Hoping he could intimidate UofM into solving his problem for him was his only play.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:16 PM ^
Warde, most likely eating a tub of ice cream, is confused by this show of leadership.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:22 PM ^
Warde should have been fired multiple years ago! I bet Ono does it soon.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:31 PM ^
“Ma, the meatloaf!!!”
November 4th, 2023 at 2:41 PM ^
This might be the part where Ono sits him down and tells him he’s not a wartime consigliere.
November 4th, 2023 at 3:54 PM ^
Excellent reference.
November 4th, 2023 at 5:10 PM ^
Warde ATE the war time consigliere
November 4th, 2023 at 11:45 PM ^
Pop had Genco. Look at what I got.

Nice.
A little off-topic, what kind of S&M relationship do certain other schools have with OSU? That school has an insanely rich athletic department, most likely has out-cheated (bag men, etc.) other schools, and has steamrolled them on the field.
Have Sparty et al. taken it roughly for so long that they can't imagine another reality? Why else would they so willingly fall in line with the Buckeyes?
November 4th, 2023 at 2:36 PM ^
This is such a good question.
Like remember when Rutgers joined with OSU to "take back New Jersey?" I don't know why they'd rather have the best Jersey kids going to OSU than Michigan.
November 4th, 2023 at 4:01 PM ^
They have Stockholm syndrome.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:17 PM ^
It's insane to me that we still don't have any idea how Connor Stalions got on the CMU sideline and that came out, what, 4-5 days ago and yet the Big 10 ADs are already acting like this is clearly limited to UM and that swift punishment is the only option on the table.
Santa Ono is a school president and so I fully expect him to turn out to be a bit of an ass - he already came across somewhat poorly IMO during the grad student negotiations - but he's treating this professionally, which is more than I can say for a bunch of other ADs and the commissioner.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:17 PM ^
Finally and perfectly said. Now kick the fuck out of Purdue.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:28 PM ^
The team needs to channel their anger the rest of the season and curb stomp every team they face!
November 4th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
Gotta say I wonder if he reads this board since many of these same points with similar phrasing have been shared here. He distilled it nicely with an ominous expectation.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:36 PM ^
Santa Ono has better things to do. The reason the same points have been made here is that those points are valid and relevant. This is one of the most literate and thoughtful online communities for college sports, if not the most.
Besides, the points he's making about due process and other schools not wanting to have their own due process undermined are just obvious. It's pretty easy to see what a can of worms the conference is thinking about opening. It just seems like some of our peers are too busy being butthurt about having lost some football games to consider the implications.
November 4th, 2023 at 5:41 PM ^
Right, I forgot he’s busy on Twitter.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
Is it me, or is there a slight, veiled threat in this letter that not only will UM take legal action vs the B1G, but UM may also leave the B1G if the B1G doesent let the NCAA play out their entire investigation?
#GoBlue
November 4th, 2023 at 2:26 PM ^
Now that would have been a strong response.
November 4th, 2023 at 11:48 PM ^
I would love to see a transcript of what was said behind closed doors.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:29 PM ^
Absolutely. It's like the nicest cease and desist letter without making it sound like a cease and desist. Maybe that's the wrong terminology but it's clearly laying out the ground work that if the B1G wants to keep fucking around, they're going to find out.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:39 PM ^
I don't know about whether I read a threat to leave the conference. But the threat to take legal action isn't subtle at all. Making that many references to "conference rules" to the goddamn commissioner is as subtle as a slap in the face. Ono not only intends to fight if the conference goes outside of normal process, he's establishing that he has grounds to do so.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:43 PM ^
It's definitely worded precisely, for a purpose. Especially the section about ruining livelihoods, programs, etc...
November 4th, 2023 at 2:20 PM ^
Honestly print out this letter, take it to the Louvre, and put it in that bulletproof case next to the Mona Lisa. It's perfect.
It's polite, but it's also a "fuck you". It explains that the University's position is the only position it can possibly have, and that the Big Ten's options do not include anything Ryan Day would like them to include. And it shouldn't have to be said, but it also points out that people talking shit on ESPN or twitter has absolutely zero bearing on the status of actual investigations or consequences.
...do you think Santa Ono can run the athletic department too? He's not busy, is he?
November 4th, 2023 at 7:34 PM ^
I think it is self-evident that he is already running the athletic department.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:20 PM ^
Santa from the top rope!!!!!!!!!
November 4th, 2023 at 2:21 PM ^
This is the best he could do? I was expecting Santa to take a stronger position on this. Instead it read like a beta cry -- you're not allowed to hurt us without an investigation. Kind of weak, but ok.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:27 PM ^
Fuck You!! Is that strong enough for you?
November 4th, 2023 at 2:28 PM ^
You’re trying to back them off, explain why they’re wrong and clarify they will regret taking unilateral action (which it definitely does). You’re absolutely not trying to piss the guy off and show that we’re as unreasonable as the mob.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:29 PM ^
Santa Ono needs to keep his course of action close to the vest, such as a law suite if necessary should the Big-10 rush to judgement. All he can at this point is issues a stern warning.
I'll bet that was serious meeting Santa had with Petitti (B1G Commish) on Friday. More was probably said behind closed doors.

Weak post by BrokePhD
November 4th, 2023 at 11:52 PM ^
Broke because he took on a mountain of student loans and got a PhD in something for which there are no jobs.
November 4th, 2023 at 2:36 PM ^
That you have obtained a PhD without understanding what a polite, legal “Fuck You” looks like may in part explain the “broke”.
November 4th, 2023 at 3:01 PM ^
Lol. Perfect response
November 4th, 2023 at 3:06 PM ^
When you say dumb stuff out loud, broke is often a consequence ..,
November 4th, 2023 at 2:45 PM ^
That's not how you open in this kind of thing.
