Damn Ono. You Go President. Nice job. UM is going to fight this and B1G better back off and not piss off your cash cow. NCAA has it's own problems with the lawsuit. It almost looks like if anything happens it will be after this year.

I am glad this letter is out now. This is the way to fight back.

Good!  Fuck Petitti and fuck the rest of the Big Ten.  Absolute fucking joke they wanted something to happen before a formal investigation is completed.

Nice.

A little off-topic, what kind of S&M relationship do certain other schools have with OSU? That school has an insanely rich athletic department, most likely has out-cheated (bag men, etc.) other schools, and has steamrolled them on the field.

Have Sparty et al. taken it roughly for so long that they can't imagine another reality? Why else would they so willingly fall in line with the Buckeyes?

It's insane to me that we still don't have any idea how Connor Stalions got on the CMU sideline and that came out, what, 4-5 days ago and yet the Big 10 ADs are already acting like this is clearly limited to UM and that swift punishment is the only option on the table.

Santa Ono is a school president and so I fully expect him to turn out to be a bit of an ass - he already came across somewhat poorly IMO during the grad student negotiations - but he's treating this professionally, which is more than I can say for a bunch of other ADs and the commissioner.

Gotta say I wonder if he reads this board since many of these same points with similar phrasing have been shared here. He distilled it nicely with an ominous expectation.

Santa Ono has better things to do. The reason the same points have been made here is that those points are valid and relevant. This is one of the most literate and thoughtful online communities for college sports, if not the most.

Besides, the points he's making about due process and other schools not wanting to have their own due process undermined are just obvious. It's pretty easy to see what a can of worms the conference is thinking about opening. It just seems like some of our peers are too busy being butthurt about having lost some football games to consider the implications.

Is it me, or is there a slight, veiled threat in this letter that not only will UM take legal action vs the B1G, but UM may also leave the B1G if the B1G doesent let the NCAA play out their entire investigation?

I don't know about whether I read a threat to leave the conference. But the threat to take legal action isn't subtle at all. Making that many references to "conference rules" to the goddamn commissioner is as subtle as a slap in the face. Ono not only intends to fight if the conference goes outside of normal process, he's establishing that he has grounds to do so.

Honestly print out this letter, take it to the Louvre, and put it in that bulletproof case next to the Mona Lisa.  It's perfect.

It's polite, but it's also a "fuck you".  It explains that the University's position is the only position it can possibly have, and that the Big Ten's options do not include anything Ryan Day would like them to include.  And it shouldn't have to be said, but it also points out that people talking shit on ESPN or twitter has absolutely zero bearing on the status of actual investigations or consequences.

...do you think Santa Ono can run the athletic department too?  He's not busy, is he?

This is the best he could do? I was expecting Santa to take a stronger position on this. Instead it read like a beta cry -- you're not allowed to hurt us without an investigation. Kind of weak, but ok.

Santa Ono needs to keep his course of action close to the vest, such as a law suite if necessary should the Big-10 rush to judgement. All he can at this point is issues a stern warning.

I'll bet that was serious meeting Santa had with Petitti (B1G Commish) on Friday. More was probably said behind closed doors.
