Good morning and Happy Saturday MGoFriends!

Portal is officially closed from Harbaugh’s departure! Let’s celebrate with a Posbang!

Man that went so much better than I thought it would. Bama and Washington got absolutely raided by the portal. Obviously Sherrone carries some continuity that they didnt have but you could just feel the Buckeyes out there ready to celebrate when guys transferred. At this point we went through the worst of it and only lost 1 of our 4+ quality safeties. Major win for Sherrone and the NIL factory

Sam said it in the round table, but I think it's worth repeating. The fact that Michigan retained basically every starter when the portal was ONLY open for us, speaks to the way that Sherrone has kept the culture together, and also to Michigan's evolution on NIL to keep people that other teams were dying to poach.

Sam said Sabb didn't leave for money. It sounded like the counteroffer was there, he just wanted playing time. I'm VERY happy with the precedent that we only lose contributors for playing time. There's always going to be attrition in this era of CFB. Michigan's attrition was absurdly low in general terms, and even moreso taking the coaching change into account.

Our situation is probably a little unique because we lost a coach after winning a national championship and we lost a lot of starters and have openings/playing time available at almost every position group.

What’s our scholarship count? It seems like we should have a few open scholarships for incoming transfers.

Am I the only one who actually believes the offense could be good as well? The depth at RB is insane, would argue the best TE in the conference if not the country, and plenty of guys on the OLINE who likely would have started on most other teams last year. Michigan can and will run the ball and we have seen how willing Moore is to stick to that. Keep the defense fresh and control the ball, don’t turn it. Most defenses aren’t built to hold up to 30-50 runs per per game with the assortment of heavy packages we will be utilizing.

I agree the offense will be good.  Some drop offs in personnel, but many excellent players.  I expect offensive coaching to improve in the week in week out schedule due to losing Harbaugh.  My pet theory is that the Harbaugh system run by someone other than Harbaugh might branch out in a way Harbaugh would not have done.  So the offense might surprise and overwhelm even losing McCarthy, Corum, two receivers and the whole offensive line.  Give them one game to learn.

Overly bullish. Most players who want to leave were not going to leave during this window bc it was too late in the academic calendar. Some will go when the next portal window opens. But hopefully not many.

I don't think that makes a ton of sense. Players are more valuable if they transfer before spring ball, not after. This was the window where we could have possibly lost starters.

Anyone transferring after spring (from any team, not just Michigan) is someone who got told their playing time was going to be limited.

Entering the transfer portal doesn’t mean you’re leaving at that moment. Enter the portal, get courted by schools, commit to the new school, enroll in the spring. You’re getting yourself ahead of the spring portal entries.

If they wanted to leave, it was still more beneficial to leave now than in the spring. The players who leave in spring will largely be the ones who don’t like where they’re at on the depth chart.

The portal that just closed...we were literally (in the literal sense of the word) the only team that could have players go in the portal. The time to pick up people was when we were in the playoffs.

And in the meantime, Tuttle got his waiver, so you kind of got your wish.

We'll have another chance in the spring portal.

I get that.  Just wishing out loud and frankly with out uncertainty we missed out on the timing of it.

As the roster stands it’s going to be an interesting race.

Tuttle gives us a nice floor.  I’m not sold on Orji being more than one dimensional.  Warren looked good before he didn’t.  Denegal throws a nice ball and is mobile enough. Then you have the freshman who may not play like a freshman

This team has all the tools to win it all again provided we figure out the QB spot

I'm pretty psyched about next year.  It is an accomplishment to only lose one player in the post-Harbaugh portal (for some reason I think the other guys were in the portal before that.)

It seems like the team will mostly stay intact through Spring and that we could get some incoming players.  We'll see what kind of relationships/recruiting chops the new coaches have.

If one of Tuttle/Orji/Denegal/Smith/Warren emerges we could be pretty good despite our tough schedule.
