As stated previously above, the details that MSU obfuscated and didn't want to release/covered up sound a lot like Baylor.

Still think the cult of personality prevails and nothing is done to these two revered coaches unfortunately.

Is there anybody in charge who is not completely self-serving?

Who is looking out for the various stakeholders of the University who are not in the inner circle of running it?

Anybody at all?

No. Who the hell is going to terminate them at this point? They don't have an AD, and I doubt the board would ever consider that.

Will they be forced to resign if heat becomes too hot? I think that's the more likely outcome.

Snort answer: No.

They might not have jobs any more, they might "resign" or "retire" or be "reassigned" but considering that not a single person has been fired related to the assault (aside from Nassar himself, eventually) I highly doubt that starts with the football or basketball coach.

Given the recent handling of these events, my disdain is at an all time high.  However, I'm starting to feel badly for the thousands of upright students and professors as well as coaches and athletes that are at that institution. We all know, in our hearts, there are many upright people who are associated with the university.  At this point, any association with MSU is considered toxic. Those leaders let this university down in a bad, bad way.

This will only be good for the students, stopping the rape train being run on them. Sure their sports fandom might be less enjoyable but tahts only deserving.

As for the athletes, many of them are there because of that culture. Because they can rape, assault, not go to class, take roids, etc.. Fuck 'em. And they'll all be able to transfer anyway.

Honest question: How is what's happened at MSU any different from what happened at Baylor? And if there's no difference, how long before Dantonio and Izzo meet the same, deserved fate of Art Briles?

What a mess. The legacy(s) of Tom Izzo and Mark Dantonio have taken a left hand turn, to say the least. Was nobody watching the store? At all? Ever? Fucking inmates running the asylum in East Lansing.

Hasn't it been an open secret for some time that MSU's big programs don't really deal with sexual assaults in a particularly proactive way?  My memory is a bit murky, but I think the purported victim wanted to bring charges against Payne and Appling but was disuaded by school administrators and the police.  There were a number of situations before Corley & co. where Dantonio didn't publicly address sexual assault issues with players.

I get no school is perfect, and Michigan certainly has had sexual assault isues in their recent past.  But one of the characteriziations I've always despised about Izzo and particularly Dantonio are that they are tough, disciplinarians with their players, when actual evidence shows basically the opposite.

As for Dantonio as disciplinarian, the incident that always stands out to me is the one in which Glenn Winston was reinstated to the team after punching the MSU hockey player in the back of the head, which broke the hockey player's skull and caused brain bleeding.  And the punch was for the hockey player's crime of being near (but not in) a fight.

Yep.  Also, Winston was later booted from the team again for...you guessed it...another assault on students, this time that Rathers Hall beating.

And it's even little things like Scott sitting out exactly one drive against IU despite driving without a license and being caught over a half-dozen times.  I've always assumed the downfall of Tom Izzo will be him getting caught for recruiting violations that will show years of it, and Dantonio's will be when he tries to keep his leading WR or QB on the team after the guy does something insane in the middle of the campus.

Several years ago some media org took a look at the unholy association between FSU and the Tallahassee PD, and it was evident that the cops were actively conniving with the FSU athletic department to keep athlete crimes out of the public eye.

I'll bet that when all the dust settles, the same situation will be evident to have been the case in EL for at least two decades.

sold his soul to the devil for a little run of success.   And now he is at Michigan State to collect his payments.

Please dont think Im taking this lightly, I hope it didnt come off that way but I feel MSU is completely surrounded by evil right now.

To all victims, stay strong

I wanted to throw up reading this. Dozens of sexual assaults/rapes documented outside of anything to do with Nassar and literally nothing was done in order to insulate MSU. Wouldn't that mean Nassar, a pedophile, might be inclined to work at MSU if he knows it's a safe haven for rapists? Also, think of the players and how they talk to each other about it... basically you can do whatever you want to women and it doesn't have consequences

Very good piece of journalism there. Lousy topic, and one I really wish didn;t occur within our state, but it has. All I can say is that nuclear winter is coming, and yes - pride does come before the fall.

We might give the world wide leader crap for their skewed coverage, but they nailed it this time. While most of this information has been discussed around here, the outside world was blissfully unaware until now. The bigger picture with Penn State, MSU, the Tennessee rape incident and all the basketball recruiting malfeasance is that big money has hopelessly corrupted the priorities of those in charge of college athletics. It's no longer a few isolated incidents of points shaving or individual bag men paying recruits; it's now entire institutions covering up or looking away from wrong doing or in Pitino's case actively assisting in the wrong doing. It's a sad day when we are forced to realize that there may be no innocence left in college athletics. I hope the MSU fallout convinces all other schools to take a harder look, and spare a few victims.

Arguably a very good coach/motivator. Fine.

But I lost all respect for him when it became clear he was actively or tacitly coaching his players to cheap shot Michigan players whenever possible.

Plenty of these incidents were visible on broadcasts, and I’m sure many were not.

I know this happens in football, so I’m talking about stuff beyond the norm, falling comfortably into the realm of classlessness

He's won games and you can't take that away from him, but I personally think the job is about more than winning. The head coach should also insist on education and good character. I think Jim Harbaugh believes this. So did Hoke, Lloyd, etc. As a Michigan alum I will always insist that our head coach places values on these things, even though I know that at times it will make it more difficult for us to compete with certain other programs. I don't believe Dantonio gave this much thought. I think he was willing to overlook a lot, particularly if it helped him win and in particular to beat Michigan. This is why I always thought he was a dick irregardless of the fact that he had success against us.

Glad ESPN is going after MSU but there is zero chance Mork and Izzo get canned over this. I would rather see crippling NCAA sanctions and lots of victories vacated but I won’t hold my breath for that either.

Maybe there's a cause-and-effect relationship between steroid use and MSUs high rate of sexual assault?  Hmm

If there's anything I've learned from this, from Baylor, and from Penn State, it's that this kind of thing can happen anywhere. In the right situation, it could happen at Michigan. Am I saying it will? No. But we'd be foolish to assume that it could never happen here, either. And that's really a scary thought.

"We men are wretched things."
