Brian Ferentz, who is the alleged coordinator of Iowa's alleged offense, held his first press conference since Week 2. He promised no changes.

And I don't mean "he didn't promise any changes." I mean "he promised that he will not change anything."

He also had a doozy of quote when DIRECTLY asked whether he'd consider stepping down.

“There’s two options in life in any situation,” Ferentz said, via 247 Sports. “You can surrender, and if you surrender, then I think the results are pretty much guaranteed. Or you can dig in, you can continue to fight, and you can try to improve and do things better. I will always choose option A. Done it in my personal life. Done it in my professional life. I wouldn’t be able to go home and look my children in the eye if I wasn’t an option B person. I think I said option A. I started with option surrender, right? That’s not me. Let me be crystal clear about that. That’s number one.”

No further comment.

Iowa fans are too happy with the status quo. It's not an easy place to recruit high school football players, but they need to demand more for their loyalty and dollars. The Ferentz family is making about $ 8 million per year for producing yearly mediocrity. When the Offensive Coordinator, who is also the Head Coach's son basically gives the fans the middle finger, it's time for them to storm the Bastille.

Iowa students/fans need to protest like we did with Dave Brandon. Either Kirk needs to fire his son or he needs to go. The worst part is they’re pissing away one of the best defenses in the country. If they had an offense that was just ranked 60-70 (instead of the 100+ they are now) in Offensive SP+ they’d win the B1G west. Unacceptable.

I’d be mortified by the on field product if I was an Iowa fan, and the fact that your head coach is too stubborn to ever change, and has effectively doubled down by hiring his son as the OC, makes me feel like you’re just wasting years of great defensive products. If they modernized even just a smidge on offense…..

But I suppose in a way this is what Iowa deserves. They keep extending Ferentz, despite having one good year for every 3-4 wildly mediocre ones. He knows they’re not going to fire him. So what incentive does he have to change?

We were plenty mortified having to watch RichRod's defenses who got torched by even the most mediocre of opponents...not to mention those abysmal offensive lines under Brady Hoke who were responsible for "protecting" Devin Gardner.  We know that helpless feeling very well.

But imagine seeing those products and knowing that RichRod would never be fired....that's a truly terrifying thought.

Lets be honest, and I'm an OSU fan... Iowa is and never will be (TY Kirk!) what UM is on the football field. Expectations are just different, and Kirk can continue his long reign of mediocre football with an occasional good season mixed in. UM (and OSU) have ENTIRELY different expectations than Iowa, I think their fans have just accepted that at this point. I have to give some credit to the Ferentz family, they've certainly found their niche at being millionaires for half-assed performance!

They keep extending Ferentz, despite having one good year for every 3-4 wildly mediocre ones.

They could easily do worse.  This is a school in a state of 3 million people, which it shares with another Power 5 program.  Iowa faces a very uncertain future post-Ferentz.

Ferentz's overall record is good, all things considered.  It's just surprising that he's now willing to squander a very good defense in order to keep his son employed.

Definite Baghdad Bob (Baghdad Brian?) vibes here:

  • "We're giving them a real lesson today. Heavy doesn't accurately describe the level of casualties we have inflicted." = "We gave Illinois a real lesson Saturday.  Heavy doesn't accurately describe the pain we inflicted on their defense."
  • "We defeated them yesterday. God willing, I will provide you with more information. I swear by God, I swear by God, those who are staying in Washington and London have thrown these mercenaries in a crematorium." = "We defeated them Saturday.  Just like every other Saturday.  Those who are football fans in Champaign, Ann Arbor and Ames have thrown their coaches and players in a crematorium."

I'd be embarrassed if I were in his place. Dude gets $860k/year to suck at his job and then promises that he's going to continue sucking at his job.
