The offenses are the same,…

The offenses are the same, but the defenses are what has changed. OSU's was hot garbage last year, and couldn't stop the UM offense from running it down their throat, even when they knew it was coming. OSU's defense is Very much improved. Flip side, while UM still has a VERY good defense, UM lost its two most prolific pass rushers.

If the game plays out like last year, I think UM will come out on top, and may not even be close at all. That was textbook "keep their offense off the field while we methodically eat clock and still score".

If OSU can get some stops and score early, UM's offense isn't necessarily built to come from behind down a couple scores. I'd wager OSU will flip from the 4-2-5 to a 4-3-4 as their base defense to sell out on stopping UM's run game.

I think that's where the real chess match lies, who can get out in front early and play their style of game?

Kemp took the lead,…

Kemp took the lead, Hutchinson had the assist.

As for 42-27... this has been your year to talk (loudly), as is your right after a win. We'll see what happens on the field a month from now.

I guess I don't understand…

I guess I don't understand the premise of this rant? Per comments in this thread, OSU's lines are soft and can't hold up against elite lines when they play (referring to UM last year I presume). When Day leaves the offensive starters in to play against an elite defense (Iowa #1 in total defense, #3 in passing defense) to get reps in and prepare for other elite lines they'll face, he's an asshole for it?

As for sportsmanship, please... Style points matter to the CFP committee, and like it or not, this is the world of college football now. If you want to make a statement on sportsmanship, go find an Ohio State fan and untie their shoe. Carlo Kemp and Aiden Hutchison can give you pointers.

Biased, but I agree. Day has…

Biased, but I agree. Day has been pulling starters early most of this season in anything resembling a blowout... Iowa and the points is the smart bet if I were inclined to throw some money down.

Just my honest take, I think…

Just my honest take, I think OSU is going to add some wrinkles and sell out on defense to stop your run game. JJ seems like a solid QB, but he's prone to overthrowing, hanging onto the ball too long, and not hitting receivers in stride. OSU will score... so getting a few stops and short fields early could be trouble for UM. The flip side of that is your offensive line man handling us like last year, and if that happens, we're in BIG trouble. Your best defense is keeping OSU's offense off the field. Your DLine is good, but not what it was last year... and Stroud with another year of experience isn't a guy you want to give time to in the pocket. As with almost all high quality matchups, this one will be won in the trenches.

Even if he goes, he'll still…

Even if he goes, he'll still probably retain that Barry Alvarez-type pull on the program. Iowa is a shit show, their seasonal success is based on the occasional upset of a ranked team. Just glad I'm not a Hawkeyes fan.. I don't have enough hair left to pull out if I was.

Lets be honest, and I'm an…

Lets be honest, and I'm an OSU fan... Iowa is and never will be (TY Kirk!) what UM is on the football field. Expectations are just different, and Kirk can continue his long reign of mediocre football with an occasional good season mixed in. UM (and OSU) have ENTIRELY different expectations than Iowa, I think their fans have just accepted that at this point. I have to give some credit to the Ferentz family, they've certainly found their niche at being millionaires for half-assed performance!

I'll concur on this, Honker…

I'll concur on this, Honker. Your offensive line just straight up beat our defensive line... not much "saving plays" went on, and they weren't needed. If OSU couldn't stop the run, why go away from it?

Agreed. The flip side of…

Agreed. The flip side of that quote is, "I wish I would have worked more and spent less time with family". I can't imagine what it feels like to be the GOAT in anyone's profession, but still, at the very end... one would think family and specifically children would be top of mind.

Hope they can work it out.. I never like to see a family split up over work schedules.

I have to admit, it's been…

I have to admit, it's been interesting watching from afar how the narrative has changed with Harbaugh amongst the UM fanbase. Probably half of the poster's on this board would've voted to fire him after 2020, and speaking from my perspective, half the OSU fan base believes Harbaugh purposely ducked out of The Game that season because he knew he couldn't withstand another loss to OSU (Covid outbreak was just an excuse). He seems to have turned it around and got a win vs OSU last year, just curious what a trip up to MSU or OSU would do to the UM fan base this year? I assume he's bought himself plenty of slack with the 2021 season.

Well before my time, but I…

Well before my time, but I do know that by 73', the EPA's emissions restrictions and soaring insurance costs ate away at the power manufacturers were putting into cars. 65'-71' were the glory years of muscle cars back then. Now I'm just waiting for something to curb the current horsepower wars. While I love it, there's no reason an average driver should be driving a 700+ HP Car out of the dealership without a least a little bit of high performance driving education.. Sheesh.

Crunchy peanut butter was…

Crunchy peanut butter was invented for kids, XM...everyone knows that. And if it makes you feel better, my girl is a Wolverine through and through, much to my dismay. But she's a keeper, so I tolerate the unnecessary amount of maize and blue in my house in the fall... you know... compromising and all that.

I believe in MGo's parlance…

I believe in MGo's parlance it's "NTM", did I do that right? Miami University is my alma mater.

Not even close.. but I do…

Not even close.. but I do enjoy conversation and perspective from a rival's side. Believe it or not, there are some really good people on both sides uminks... Its just a game after all.

TD season one was simply…

TD season one was simply amazing.. great writing and fantastic acting. I hated the letdown the following seasons had.

Does it count if you're not…

Does it count if you're not a UM fan?!!

1. Miami University

2. The Sopranos

3. Hard Rock

4. Creamy

5. No idea who these people are... So N/A.

Got a ride in one when I was…

Got a ride in one when I was younger... You're a lucky person to have that sweet sound when you put your foot down. Sorry about the gas though, that does suck. Averaging around 14-16mpg or so?

The E46 was truly a master…

The E46 was truly a master class in how to make a proper sports sedan... Your son has good taste. Unfortunately, and I may be getting old, it seems like their are fewer and fewer of the youngsters out there that appreciate a third pedal and working the entire power band on a twisty road. Its all about power now, and electrical steering, dual clutch or sequential transmissions... Cars are video games now and really don't require very much skill to go REALLY, REALLY fast. Hang onto that 330, Its a beautiful car.

Former JK owner here…

Former JK owner here... Please.don't say you assume a Jeep has been driven because the owner left mud all over it for two weeks... those owners drive me insane. Any time I wheeled my Jeep, it was clean within hours.. the rest are just parking lot posers or wannabe's. /end rant

I'm of the (insane in some…

I'm of the (insane in some circles) opinion that a strong UM is better for OSU, and better for the conference. Wins like 2016 and 2018 are truly gratifying, as I'm sure 2021 was for you and your fellow UM fans. Interesting to see the moves the B1G is making with USC and UCLA, we'll see what else shakes out after all of this.

M3 drivers have their own…

M3 drivers have their own differences.. e30, e36, or e46.. probably car guys that appreciate a fantastically fun car to drive (I have never driven or owned an e30 M3). The guys that have brand new M3's... you're probably very right. Kind of like air-cooled 911's versus new 911's... One is much more expensive and faster, but the other is just so much more fun and cooler... in my opinion. (Insert your cooler pooper jokes here😁)

Always good to hear from you…

Always good to hear from you XM... it's been a whirlwind with work and family, haven't been online nearly as much, and killed all my social media (liberating, by the way). Figured you guys deserve your year of pride after the whooping' you put on us, but I can't resist a car blog post. Hope the family and your kiddos are doing well... did we ever find out what schools they're playing football at, or is that still classified?

Camry's, Prius's (Priie?),…

Camry's, Prius's (Priie?), or Subaru Hatchbacks... they mostly drive slow and will leave a green light REALLY slow. Pro-tip.. find a delivery vehicle or tow truck and get behind them... they're always in a hurry.

I think what he was alluding…

I think what he was alluding to is NIL money coming back down to a mean... right now it's in a hyper-inflationary stage where boosters and businesses are throwing stupid amounts of cash at unproven kids because its new and they can. One would think once they see how little return on investment they're getting after a few years that the amount of money thrown around will start to recede, I hope. Whether UM is playing the long game or not, this is the current CFB landscape, so we can debate ad nauseam about potential ramifications for "sitting out". As an OSU fan, UM's approach is interesting to say the least.

Thank you for sharing…

Thank you for sharing FrankMurphy, it's imperative we as a society take mental wellness as seriously as we take our physical health (which, we could also do better with, but that's another conversation). These kids are put under an immense amount of pressure, under a microscope for all to see.. playing a sport at a level most of us couldn't dream of playing at. Harry Miller's tweet should be a beacon for all athletes with mental illness to seek help, and I'm grateful he played at OSU for Ryan Day who's personally experienced suicide and takes mental illness very seriously. I would guess many of us are old enough to have "suck it up", or "deal with it" ingrained in our minds from playing sports in our youth, I just hope those of you who are parents with young children, like me, take this illness seriously. I know I never realized how serious this issue was until some very good friends of mine began dealing with it with their children. I blame social media, but that's also another conversation. God Bless to those who are struggling.

You must have missed the…

You must have missed the post above, I try to get news and viewpoints from multiple angles and sources, hence cruising a UM blog even though I'm an OSU fan. I would have never known what a septic pump truck looked like if I hadn't been on this site, so now I know! See how that works?!?

I'm an OSU fan, downvotes…

I'm an OSU fan, downvotes kind of come with the territory I'm posting in, common sense or not.

I don't think it's politics,…

I don't think it's politics, it's just following our current societal proclivity to only hear what you want, and toss out or discredit what you don't. Many OSU fans are absolutely convinced ESPN has it out for OSU because of an SEC bias... which may be true, or not true. I'm inclined to believe they talk about OSU (and UM) because that's going to generate clicks and subsequent revenue.

The issue with "banning" certain media outlets and writers is that someone other than you is choosing to select certain information as truth, and other information as non-truth. If the "truth" is favorable to your viewpoint, you accept it and discuss. A "non-truth" is deemed garbage, untrustworthy, and discredited... Right along with the individual and outlet that published it. EVERY writer and outlet is competing for clicks in this day and age, censoring doesn't get us anywhere other than building comfortable little echo chambers. Some writers and outlets are hacks, but that doesn't mean they can't or haven't dispersed true information. As with everything now days, it's up to the reader to educate themselves from multiple sources, and then try to find the real truth in the middle.

2001 was their last NC. I…

2001 was there last NC. I don't think that's quite the "dunk" you were looking for, considering NC history.

With NIL and the transfer portal, Miami could very well be one of those programs that pops back onto the national radar in the near future. Coral Gables isn't exactly a bad place to spend four years of your life. Gattis may not have made the mistake you seem to think he did.

Was in a first hand…

Was in a first hand conversation amongst buddies 10 or so years ago, with a then-current NFL player included. He confirmed unless you're a big, BIG time player, he and his teammates were strongly encouraged to play through injuries, including concussions. Verbatim, he said trainers asked him, "Do you really think you have a concussion, or just a headache? Do you want us to tell the Coaching staff you're unable to play?"

With the small roster size and pressure to "be okay"... I don't believe for a second the NFL gives two shits about player safety. They're only concerned with the public's perception that they care about player safety.

Born and raised in Toledo…

Born and raised in Toledo.. It's pretty much a 50/50 split. Growing up there, OSU/UM parties were always a hoot, didn't really realize the rest of Ohio was so one-sided until I went to college.

Cincinnati kind of matches to the beat of their own drum, you're just as likely to find ND fans there as you are OSU or Cincinnati fans.

The "hooligans" are a…

The "hooligans" are a disgrace to our fanbase... I take no pride in someone damaging someone's property simply because they are from Michigan. They're stupid, plain and simple.

With that said, I lived and worked in AA for four years, you guys are not without your share of "hooligans" as well. Every fan base has idiots, to act like one does and another doesn't is either complete delusion, or complete idiocy.

As for reasoning, I guess, read your own blog and the comments. I'd love to know the percentage of UM fans that talk down to Ohio State grads that are actually UM grads, versus the Wal-Mart Wolverines clinging to an academic prestige they had no part of. My experience in AA and the surrounding areas...lots of them. When someone talks down to you due to a piece of paper they hold (or worse, don't hold), it's not a surprise that that person is really, really going to dislike you. Just my .02.

I can't remember a time when…

I can't remember a time when both fan bases were simultaneously happy about a coaching decision pertaining to either UM or OSU. This next season is going to be pivotal to Harbaugh, either continue the success he had last year, or regress back to his mean average while at UM. Firmly in wait and see mode.

Darn it, a reasonable…

Darn it, a reasonable response. Upvote for you sir!

Fuck, marry, kill.

Harbaugh…

Fuck, marry, kill.

Harbaugh, Covid immunization, UM Admin.

S/ I know some Covid post of some sort got you in hot water, trying to make light of it.

Just don't understand the…

Just don't understand the run on TP, ever. Down here in NW Ohio, they're calling for 12-18" of snow, A sizeable amount. Four of us in the household... how the hell does TP make your list of "must have's" for a snowstorm that will be cleared in 3 days!?! I understand milk, eggs, fruits, veggies, and all the other perishables... but TP? C'mon... I have enough old t-shirts to last me a week, at least.

Carpetbagger has a great…

Carpetbagger has a great analogy above. UM cut his pay and gave him a put-up, or shut-up contract last year. He put-up, in a big way, and now he has options. I'm clearly not a UM fan, but you have to admire someone for betting on themselves and winning. Not sure it's fair to question his want when he's exploring newly made available options, how do you know if you want or don't want something without knowing what that thing is?

Harbaugh should have learned…

Harbaugh should have learned from Urban Meyer... don't flirt with Minnesota or Florida, stick to fingering Nebraska.

So happy for him. He…

So happy for him. He wallowed in Detroit for most of his years, and was always a class act. He deserves a shot at a SB win. The Ford family can go F-off... they're by far the most incompetent NFL owners in the league... it's disgusting as a lifelong Lions fan.

Could not agree more on…

Could not agree more on McKenna. Five years ago it was $25 BiB junk, it won "Whiskey of the Year" by some outlet, and suddenly it's $50 junk. I have two bottles, they get offered up for mixed drinks before anything else I have.

I'll have to pick up Mammoth if I run into it, I don't recall ever seeing it.

Agreed, I love a well…

Agreed, I love a well marbled steak and I love smoked brisket.. doesn't mean they mix well. Give me an IPA at the bar and a bourbon to finish the night, no need to mix them!

That's not Weller Green…

That's not Weller Green Label (Special Reserve), that's Weller 12 Year.... A whole different ball game. 12 Year is some of the best bourbon I've ever had... Including the RVW's and Pappy's.

Was just about ready to post…

Was just about ready to post the same thing after taking a look at SDW's posting history... They've called me a troll multiple times for, I guess, being an OSU fan on a Michigan blog? I enjoy the community here and the topics that are discussed (James Webb telescope yesterday for instance).. SDW is just an angry person in general.

Multiplicity FTW!

"She…

Multiplicity FTW!

"She touched my peppy Steve"

You seem particularly…

You seem particularly prickly, what is your stance on UM cancelling The Game in 2020? Not saying it was a bad call for your sake, but UM likely would have lost and Harbaugh's tenure as coach would have been even more at risk than it was all of last offseason. Posit that Day would've been 2-0 against UM this year (possibly without Harbaugh as a result)... And you're calling Day John Cooper 2.0?

Can't wait for November this year in Columbus.

The only positive takeaway I…

The only positive takeaway I've ever had from Skyline is getting to talk about ordering a 3-Way with my then GF in college (insert college humor here). Other than that, it's all been abdominal pain and TOT (time on toilet).

I admire Day simply because…

I admire Day simply because the guy is absolutely not afraid to clean house when position groups aren't performing. Part of Meyer's demise was his loyalty to underperforming positional coaches (Warriner as OC, Davis (his best man at his wedding) at LB, and of course Zach Smith at WR), so it's refreshing to have a coach not scared of shaking things up. With that said, shaking things up doesn't equate to making them better. Another loss to UM and Day's going to need a seat cooler to make him comfortable.

With the impending move to…

With the impending move to the Big 12, I think Fickell has set himself up nicely for the foreseeable future. Wouldn't shock me at all to see him stay at Cincy for awhile, and if OSU comes calling, that's probably the call he's most receptive to taking. Day has been ruthless with the defensive staff changes he's made, similar to what he did when he took over for Urban. The first round didn't go so well, if this second round doesn't either, his seat will be getting plenty warm end of 22 or 23', especially with another loss to UM.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Fickell is content to stay at Cincy and see what the next 2-3 years look like at OSU. I would imagine he'd be at the top of the list to replace Day, should it come to that.

Agree with you... The "hang…

Agree with you... The "hang a hundred on you" was, in hindsight, a really bad move,  Hutchinson said your team used that as motivation. I've always been a fan of walking silent carrying a big stick, as opposed to mouthing off and not backing it up (2018 UM, 2021 OSU for example). Hopefully Day learned his lesson this year.

No kidding, I see it all the…

No kidding, I see it all the time in my industry. Some people take a demotion for underperformance and continue to put in minimal effort in their new (demoted) position. Other times they leave, go to a competitor, and become a massive PIA for us because they felt slighted. Coombs is the latter... He's going to BRING IT against OSU any time he has the chance.
