OT: Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon, out for the season

Submitted by Wendyk5 on September 12th, 2023 at 3:07 PM

I'm just trying to wrap my head around this. I know injuries happen in football but this one is just so fluky -- season ending, maybe career ending, after a huge move to another team after years and years with the same team. I'm not superstitious and I don't believe in the hand of some higher power getting involved in stuff like this but....a bunch of things had to go wrong for this to happen and they did.

Parasites aren’t viruses, and the amount of Ivermectin dosage that killed covid in vitro was like 100 times what the human body can handle without being lethal.

Yes, those who obfuscate the facts that it is not just a horse paste/dewormer are being annoyingly trolling, but so is anyone who thinks it is a solid rebuttal to say it’s used as a parasite treatment.

In the end, the more dangerous information is that which Rodgers and Rogan have spewed to their fanboys and fangirls. Highest rates of covid death remain among the conservative unvaccinated thanks to Rodgers and the loser Robert Kennedy.

I didn't use it as a rebuttal for a covid therapy, I simply copied and pasted a description that it clearly has positive uses in humans, and to say that it doesn't is lunacy.  You inferred that because of your overwhelming childlike sensitivity to any discussion on the subject.  You know the death rate of "conservative" unvaccinated? Hahahahaha Holy shit man.  No, the death rate remains highest of unhealthy, overweight and elderly people regardless of political affiliation.

Please stay in your house forever, we'll be just fine.  Also, remember, as long as you wear your mask from your table to the bathroom at a restaurant, you'll never die of anything.

"A person who is demoralized is unable to assess true information. The facts tell him nothing, even if I shower him with information, with authentic proof, with documents and pictures. …he will refuse to believe it… That's the tragedy of the situation of demoralization."

Rodgers is unlikeable and a complete douche canoe (did I use that right?).  I suspect he didn't use enough bleach to keep his ankle clean, but nobody 'deserves' such an injury.  This likely ends a great career at QB - I can't see a 40 yr old QB coming back from this in ~2 years.  Maybe he could mentor a starter from the bench?  But he can do that as a coach or analyst, also.  I have a dollar that says he's done.

I saw that as one of the 'takes' on ESPN yesterday, that this could be great for Zach Wilson as Rodgers helps to mentor him.  I can't remember who it was making the claim, but it blew my mind as Rodgers has shown exactly zero interest in helping out anyone but himself, let alone mentoring a younger QB during the entirety of his career.

Yeah, I'm not going to gloat about a guy being hurt and on the field he's been a great QB (if a bit of a disappointment when considering how good the Packers have been and only winning 1 title) but he's absolutely a douche canoe and a millionaire many times over so there's only so many tears to shed for a guy who's collecting $70M+ for throwing 4 passes with the Jets.

It was only 4 plays!  One was the sack and the first play from scrimmage was a long run by Hall. Can't remember what happened between them, but it was 2 passes at most!

(I'm a Jets fan and I can't say I knew this would happen but I got my hopes up approximately 0% hahah. I thought it wasn't the best pickup because 1) he's old and 2) he's got nothing left to prove. Disappointing though bc the defense seems great and the RBs will be able to make big plays. Maybe Wilson won't totally stink and give them a chance...)

This has to be career ending.

Achilles take forever to heal and the older you are the time is exponential.

I'm not a fan of Rodgers - mainly because he torched the Lions forever - but it got me to thinking where he ranks all time.

I would say somewhere in Top 10 but outside of my Top 5.

I know you were about to ask so here's my T10

1. Brady

2. Montana

3. Elway

4. Marino

5. Brees

6. Fouts

7. Manning

8. Favre

9. Rodgers

10. ??? Mahomes one day.

My caveat is I only rank players I watched.  Sorry old timers.  Rings matter - to an extent.  When Fouts retired he was #2 all time in yds. behind Tarkenton.  He's now #18.  Different game today.

And seriously fuck off Green Bay.  30+ straight yrs of HOF QB's is way too much.  Hope you land in purgatory for the next 30.

Feels like Favre (who admittedly was more of a volume guy than people recognize) and Brees should be closer, probably closer to the bottom.  I can't quite shake the fact Favre had some records just because he played a long time; I know when he retired he had the record for yardage and TDs but also holds the record for picks, and I sorta doubt anyone will break that record any time soon.

I'd probably slot in Mahomes around where 8th/9th right now, and I'd throw Young in there as well.  It's tough because the league is so different now throwing the ball you can't as easily compare eras because the games were just totally different.  It's like comparing the NBA in the 70s and 80s to today.

I tore my ACL in my 40s playing basketball.  I am an engineer, not an athlete.  Anyway, I re-habbed the hell out of it and returned to "basketball" 6-9 months later.  I say, "basketball" because I spent the first month or two on the court making sure I didn't get hurt.  Took a bit over a year to get mostly back where I was.

Do all the re-hab you're allowed to and get back out there.

My two cents.

Agreed - I tore mine when I was 26 and it has never really been the same...I am no pro athlete, but I was only 26, did the full rehab, started excercising again, blah, blah, blah, and it still doesnt feel right almost 20 years later.  So a 40 year old NFL player...that would be amazing and bordeline impossible for him return to being a starter in the NFL.

Maybe they can pump him full of ivermectin to heal the injury?  Did they get a second opinion from someone who attended the YouTube School of Medicine?

EDIT:  On a related note, there was a guy sitting near me at last Saturday's game wearing a "I'm vaccinated by the blood of Jesus" t-shirt.   I did want to ask him if Jesus was also his internist, but declined to do so.  Was fascinating to see the people sitting in front of him compliment him on the shirt.  They all spent the rest of the game yucking it up with each other.  None of these people appeared to be Michigan grads.     #michiganarrogance

All I could think of last night as I saw the injury was "Could there be a more Classic Jets moment than this?"

The savior walks through the door, a man who gives you your best chance at a Super Bowl in decades, and doesn't even last one series before he goes down with a season-ending injury that may even prove to be career-ending. And even if it is career ending, you're still on the hook for owing him $75 million.

The resilience of the NY Jets, including that of Robert Saleh, will be tested big time this season.

I fucking hate Aaron Rogers but man this is a rough way to finish off your career.

His last pass in Green Bay was a Lions interception and then he blows out his Achilles in the first minute of his first game with his new team of which he is expected to help lead back to the promised land.

I don’t like Rodgers or the Jets but still feel (a little) bad for them.

Laughing at the packers though, who won’t be getting their 1st round pick since he won’t meet the 70% playing time requirement.

old guy gets hurt playing football while being sacked.  he was under heavy pressure on 3 drop backs, he was not going to survive the year at that rate.

on the plus side the Packers aren't getting the first rounder that was part of the deal since he's not playing 70% of the season.  FTP.

I don't feel bad for Rodgers, but I do feel bad for Jets fan.  They just can't catch a break.  Dude threw one pass in a Jets uniform and now may not throw another...ever.  You have a really solid team except for having to hand it back over to Zach Wilson.
