OT: Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon, out for the season
I'm just trying to wrap my head around this. I know injuries happen in football but this one is just so fluky -- season ending, maybe career ending, after a huge move to another team after years and years with the same team. I'm not superstitious and I don't believe in the hand of some higher power getting involved in stuff like this but....a bunch of things had to go wrong for this to happen and they did.
September 12th, 2023 at 3:35 PM ^
It's too bad he got such a serious injury, but it was a 3-step drop, he didn't throw the ball, and got sacked and injured.
September 12th, 2023 at 3:36 PM ^
Too soon 🤔😏
September 12th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
Omfg this is beautiful
September 12th, 2023 at 4:54 PM ^
Nope. Not too soon. Will be correct for the entire 2023 season.

the curses of Jets
September 12th, 2023 at 3:38 PM ^
I don't especially care for Rodgers though the fact he's a weirdo who believes in weird stuff isn't really the reason for that (hint: several players idolized on this forum believe in weird crap too). If I look into my heart of hearts the reason is that I don't like the Packers, but I shall digress.
That being said, it's a bad way to end your career, and it's a real bad break for the Jets and their long-suffering fans. But honestly, I suspect even if he had stayed healthy they wouldn't have won anything significant.
September 12th, 2023 at 3:42 PM ^
JK Dobbins had the exact same injury the day before on an innocuous play and the MetLife Stadium turf is notorious for contributing to injuries, so there are explanations beyond a "higher power."
September 12th, 2023 at 3:47 PM ^
I understand they had just replaced the turf in Metlife earlier this year but there's a lot of chatter from fellow NFL players about turf related injuries after this.
September 12th, 2023 at 3:59 PM ^
Players seem to have turf as their scapegoat for all injuries these days - though who knows just how many injuries are the result of turf.
Overall, this whole situation is absurd...its like the Jets got the complete opposite of the 2020 Tom Brady/Bucs experience.
September 12th, 2023 at 8:30 PM ^
This wasn’t a non contact injury
September 12th, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
I snapped my achilles when I was 34, playing in a basketball tournament...knew what happened instantly. Didn't hurt, pain was meh, but I cried knowing what the rehab was going to be like, and how long it was going to take until I could be fully active again.
Doing that at 39, at a pro level, at the QB spot....oof, I dont like him that much but I feel for him. My gut says he will hang it up, I mean shit, he wont be able to do much of anything for 8-10 months. Full recovery by 18months
September 12th, 2023 at 4:05 PM ^
Isiah Thomas said that as soon as he ruptured his Achilles, he knew he was done. He was 32 but also said he was already thinking about retiring anyway so that played a factor. Medical technology has advanced in the last 30 years as well but it will be difficult for Rodgers to make a comeback at his age.

The hatred spewing towards an injured human is a tragedy. You don’t like his politics, his personality, or his dominance over your team - but you should be able to rise above these things and be decent humans.
September 12th, 2023 at 4:12 PM ^
Relax, it’s just a ruptured tendon, not some life altering/threatening disease. Maybe he could have risen above his politics and been a decent human being during a global pandemic (you know, actual life threatening stuff) and people wouldn’t hate on him as much
September 12th, 2023 at 4:17 PM ^
this is a bad response. what exactly was he supposed to do to be a better person during the pandemic exactly?
September 12th, 2023 at 4:18 PM ^
Get vaccinated
September 12th, 2023 at 4:46 PM ^
how would that have made him a better person?
September 12th, 2023 at 5:13 PM ^
Not use his platform to spew falsehoods that influenced others not to get vaccinated and result in preventable deaths.
September 12th, 2023 at 6:11 PM ^
what falsehoods did he “spew”??
genuinely curious because all I can find was he lied about getting the vaccine. I can’t find anywhere he “spewed falsehoods”
additionally, that’s a hell of claim. sounds a hell of lot like conjecture and speculation, but in case it’s not, I’d love to see your research on how Aaron Rodgers comments you’re talking about (which I can’t find) directly led to preventable Covid deaths
September 12th, 2023 at 6:28 PM ^
Jaws, your logical and earnest questions are not going to be met with researched and thoughtful responses. You are only going to get straw man arguments and ad hominem attacks from those you are trying to earnestly engage. It’s a part of a movement that so many mindlessly join - armed with a self-righteous condemnation of those who don’t share their views.
September 12th, 2023 at 6:38 PM ^
as a scientist I feel it’s on those who make claims, outrageous or not, to back them up with facts, or at least some semblance of evidence to support those claims.
but I feel you may be right in this case, since I’ve gotten negged a bunch (and no actual answers) just for being curious.
September 12th, 2023 at 6:48 PM ^
lol, that's rich calling people who follow science and reason and common sense those that mindlessly join a movement instead of those who are anti-vaxxers because a conman trying to sell something made it up? Or because Jenny McCarthy became the spokesperson for it even after his lies came out? Or because a bunch of politicians (almost all of whom did get the vaccine) decide to rail against it for some unknown reason?
Yes one of those groups are part of a mindless movement. It's very clearly not the one you're saying it is.
September 12th, 2023 at 7:08 PM ^
ad hominem:

Can you see what you just did?
September 12th, 2023 at 7:22 PM ^
omg hahaha
well played Indy Pete
September 12th, 2023 at 7:25 PM ^
Amen. Isn’t this one of the rules on a mgoFAQ? Sometimes I really hate this echo chamber. Bears fan but for some reason I like GB QBs. The close up video showing the tendon snap gives shudders.
September 12th, 2023 at 6:30 PM ^
He lied about being vaccinated, said he did his own research with Joe Rogan, 'immunized' himself with ivermection, and then whined about the 'woke mob' and 'cancel culture.' How many more anti-vaxxer buzzwords and actions do you need?
I don't think he's a bad person, I think he's an idiot who thinks hes far smarter than he is who happens to have a giant platform because hes an amazing football player. And being a misinformation spouting moron does make me like him significantly less than I did back when he was just an amazing football player who loved game of thrones.
September 12th, 2023 at 6:34 PM ^
Ad hominems:
anti-vaxxer ✅
Idiot ✅
moron ✅
September 12th, 2023 at 6:40 PM ^
ok but how is him explaining himself “spewing misinformation”
I don’t see where he ever stated “don’t get the vaccine” but it seems like he said “it wasn’t for me” in part because he’s allergic to one or more of the ingredients (which may or may not be true)
nothing you have stated has corroborated any of the comments made, or answered my questions
September 12th, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
He lied to everyone and the media took his stupid little turn of phrase and didn't ask what it meant. It was league policy to get the vaccination, IIRC. He lied to his teammates and everyone around him and also put them at risk by not getting vaccinated.
September 12th, 2023 at 4:15 PM ^
most Americans haven’t been able to get over themselves regarding politics in decades
but I agree it’s a little messed up to see all the celebrating
September 12th, 2023 at 4:10 PM ^
As a Lions fan, absolutely despise the guy, but hate to see anyone go down like this. I'd much rather have had him fail to make an impact on the field by being old and suck and go out with a whimper that way than to have the remainder of his career taken away from him like this. I actually wouldn't be incredibly surprised if he tries to make a comeback still, but it'll be a long time and his body might betray him into retirement at that point.
September 12th, 2023 at 4:19 PM ^
Shocking the wine and loafers crowd of this fanbase doesn't like Aaron Rodgers
September 12th, 2023 at 5:26 PM ^
For a fan base that is associated with the state of Michigan, why would there be any love for a Green Bay Packers QB?
September 12th, 2023 at 4:22 PM ^
Love Aaron Rodgers...so sorry to see this happen. Life is weird like that.
September 12th, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
Far from an expert. Is it Time athletes make a stand against turf ?? There's enough data to support it's more dangerous.. The world cup made it crystal clear, xNo turf fields for 2026 world cup.
September 12th, 2023 at 4:43 PM ^
Crazy timing and a huge bummer as a football fan. Shit happens sometimes.
September 12th, 2023 at 4:53 PM ^
39 years old playing contact sports with 22 year olds - things like this happen without a higher power. I wish him well with his recovery but I would not consider this a tragic event especially considering the truly tragic things that happened on the eleventh of September.
September 12th, 2023 at 5:01 PM ^
I don't think it's tragic when you compare it to the world at large, but I do think given all the hype surrounding his move, where he is in his career, his place in football and football history, and the severity of the injury and when it happened, it's one of those "What are the chances?" kind of situations. For me, this has very little to do with Aaron Rodgers, the guy everyone loves to hate, and more to do with the exact circumstances.
September 12th, 2023 at 4:57 PM ^
Now respect even more what Tom Brady accomplished. Rodgers couldn't even make to 40 in the league.
September 12th, 2023 at 5:12 PM ^
That line is and has been a godawful mess it wasn’t a secret when he signed. Think he felt good about the skill guys and the defense.
September 12th, 2023 at 5:17 PM ^
Pretty obvious God hates the Jets.
September 12th, 2023 at 7:14 PM ^
if God hates the Jets I don’t want to know he/she/it thinks of the Lions
September 12th, 2023 at 6:02 PM ^
What do you mean a bunch of things had to go wrong for this to happen? Exactly one thing went wrong: his achilles tendon snapping.
September 12th, 2023 at 8:20 PM ^
That's valid. Here's a better way to say it: after a ton of stuff going right for him -- he finds a team perfectly suited for where he is in his career, they welcome him like a savior, the hype train is running at full speed -- everything goes suddenly and horribly wrong in the first drive.
September 12th, 2023 at 6:15 PM ^
I liked Rodgers a lot pre-covid but his anti vaxxing nonsense tainted my enjoyment of hard knocks this year. I still enjoyed it and was looking forward to see how the Jet would do this year so this is quite the bummer but him being an anti science moron did take some enjoyment away. Was awesome to see the udfa receiver win the game on a punt return though. Between that and the Rodgers injury it sure woulda been nice to get one more episode!
September 12th, 2023 at 6:44 PM ^
If you're celebrating this you have mental problems.
September 13th, 2023 at 1:48 AM ^
about half the members here qualify, then
September 12th, 2023 at 6:49 PM ^
Rodgers is definitely talented.. no question or doubt about that.
Would the Packers have won another Super Bowl or two if Rodgers contact was “not as huge” which would provided an opportunity to sign more talent to the roster? Impossible to say - but, one would think a more talented roster would help most professional teams be more successful.
I don’t have a horse in the race and was not cheering for him to be injured.
September 12th, 2023 at 7:15 PM ^
This kind of thing happens in sports, especially a violent game like football. I thought it was ironic that Michigan was finally a true contender last year and then Corum was injured. C'est la vie.
