Wait a minute, are you the…

Wait a minute, are you the Chuck Frank that went to law school after graduating from Michigan in 2011?

As many have said already,…

As many have said already, two main differences with NIL at Michigan:

We don't offer inducements to come here but instead take care of you once you're performing

Warde is not particularly supportive publicly but that could just be due to his resistance being much of a public figure.

There was an insider piece last week that talked about Champions Circle already having raised $5 million and Hail over $1 million.

I think our transfer portal silence is much more related to the coaching uncertainty for now

I'm torn.

On the one hand…

I'm torn.

On the one hand this is an incredibly well thought out post with factual references, an embedded tweet, and nice formatting.

On the other hand it reports something I don't like... So I'm forced to neg you.

If he receives the money and…

If he receives the money and donates all $20K to a 501c3 charity then isn't it all wiped from taxable income?

HailImpact passed the irs sniff test and was even applauded by prominent attorney Mit Winter. It received its 501c3 letter after the IRS memo because it gives 70% to charity and makes the players earn the remaining 30% by performing service for charity.

You could pick your favorite charity which would receive $14k and then raise $6k for NIL in the process.

Spartans donating $6K directly to the players that are going to beat down on them next year would be peak State 😂

Just donated $100! Let's run…

Just donated $100! Let's run it back!!

We landed on the moon?!

We landed on the moon?!

Jokes aside this is a great cause so I'm glad it got reposted. Can we push it up to 20k by the end of the day???? 😘

Agree but just for fun what…

Agree but just for fun what happens if

Georgia wins against Bama

Washington wins against Oregon

Texas loses in conference championship

Florida State loses in conference championship

Iowa wins against Michigan by 5 touchdowns

It would basically come down to two of the following teams making it:

1 loss non conference champion Ohio State

1 loss non conference champion with backup QB Florida State

2 loss non conference champion Texas

2 loss non conference champion Bama

2 loss non conference champion Oregon

2 loss conference champion Iowa

Just for giggles, who ya picking?

Highly reccomend donating to…

Highly reccomend donating to Hail! Impact - the 501c3 nonprofit group that's already worked with Michigan Football, Hockey, Women's Basketball, Softball and Gymnastics.

I follow them on Instagram and it looks like they partner with ChadTough, Huron Valley Humane Society, Girls Group, Peace Neighborhood Center, Ele's Place Ann Arbor, Cancer Support Community of Ann Arbor and Hope Clinic based on the events they've posted about.

Hailimpact.org to donate to any sport of your choice :)

To me it's all about…

To me it's all about transparency and accountability. To still even pursue a 501c3 after the IRS memo means this group is trying to do things the right way. They'll have to submit annual fillings that are public, be held to more scrutiny, give up any equity by having it be a nonprofit etc

The fact they actually GOT a 501c3 when Ohio State (allegedly) is the reason the memo was released in the first place is the definition of the Michigan Difference

Wow - it feels like Michigan…

Wow - it feels like Michigan is in a completely different place than a year ago with NIL!

The SI article indicated the stregnth of our commercial side with Valiant and this seems to indicate that we're trailblazing the way on the nonprofit side as well. The Leaders and Best!

I was just getting ready to…

I was just getting ready to type this myself!

Great tailgate with ample space to sit at picnic tables or dance by the DJ booth. Family friendly and just about a 7 minute walk from the stadium.

I was there for the opener and plan to be back this weekend! Go Blue!

So great to hear, sending…

So great to hear, sending prayers your way 🙏

This is great news. I…

This is great news. I believe Champions Circle came from Valiant and they've pretty much been running the show since NIL was legalized. Glad to see they finally have the opportunity to have their Athletes rock the block M during their deals.

Game changer in my opinion because brands are a lot more likely to partner with a student-athlete if they can proudly wear their jersey in the ad.

Go Blue!

When it comes to Football…

When it comes to Football there are two. Valiant, which does commercial deals for the players and launches campaigns like the one more year fund.

And Hail which provides a base stipend that all scholarship Athletes can earn. Together they complete the one two punch of having a base that gets talent to commit without a guarantee they'll see the field in year 1 and a commercial entity that makes sure top guys are taken care of once they pop off.

I almost feel bad for em. I…

I almost feel bad for em. I want to beat State thoroughly and routinely, but ideally they'd be like Penn State against us.

Good against most teams but not a threat to us.

Worth every penny - as…

Worth every penny - as touched on in the article stregnth coaches spend more time with the players over the off season than any other coach. They also impact every position group in the program. Absolutely thrilled to have BH locked up for the next 5 years. Let's go!

The program also mandates…

The program also mandates and coordinates over 2000 hours of community service to local nonprofits (that the nonprofits design) and does a full educational series for the student athlete. You could argue that each of those focuses gives em a good shot at a 501c3. The fact they have all three, and a high powered attorney as their co founder, makes me feel like this is in the bag.

I thought the same thing but…

I thought the same thing but it looks like Todd just wants to be in the know.

He's not listed anywhere on the formal board. Not even as an advisor. My guess is that he heard about this initiative through Harbaugh or others and just tweeted about it to push it forward (and look like he's in the know).

That's how I read it too…

That's how I read it too. Players have to earn their stipend, it's not just giving to them. Which, ironically, could play strong for Michigan with recruiting because we don't offer inducements to attend.

But, "we do have a nonprofit program that's not reliant on your commercial appeal. Just your ability to roll up your sleeves and get to work." Boom

For those that are Athletic…

For those that are Athletic subscribers, here is a full write up on the organization and the founder's journey. Pretty incredible origin story to be honest.

It also mentions they are partners with Valiant's Collective to round out the NIL space with Valiant focussing on commercial opportunities and Hail focussing on nonprofit engagement. I'm starting to see why this was a big deal. It's endorsed directly by Harbaugh himself.

Let the money cannon commence!

I love this. If you look…

I love this. If you look through the website not only does the program provide legitimate service requirements to vetted nonprofits but they also plan to provide and require a course component (financial literacy, branding etc) that they run. That seems to be different than Ohio State and Notre Dame's similar offering.

Considering they have a heavy Michigan Ross presence on their board I think that's a big differentiator. Go Blue! I just donated!

Absolutely incredible! Not…

Absolutely incredible! Not just to bounce back up but to straight DUST from there on out. Go Blue!

According to their website…

According to their website 100% of proceeds go to the players. I can't find it right now but I feel like I've read before that Valiant Management Group's collective - The Champions Circle does NOT charge a rake when just raising and distributing money to the players (like the one more year fund).

Where they do charge a 10% agency fee is when Valiant facilitates a marketing deal, like JJ and Dunkin Donuts or The O Line and the Army National Guard

(No subject)

That was Trevor Keegan :)

That was Trevor Keegan :)

I can't imagine this fund…

I can't imagine this fund was the only thing set up to try to retain these guys via NIL.

My take would be to think of it like a nonprofit raise initiative. You have a public aspect to drum up support, signal out to your following that you're ramping up for a cause, and supplement revenue but really you're going to your big whales and doing the lion's share of the raise behind the scenes.

So you, too, are guessing…

So you, too, are guessing about whether anyone who says "I think" is just guessing????

In the exact same boat here…

In the exact same boat here and have also anointed the 4 years we went through as the most difficult in Michigan Football history.

Soooo.... You have a…

Soooo.... You have a favorite?

I've heard rumors from…

I've heard rumors from people who intern with Valiant that this event is designed to be very interactive. Supposedly a DJ, potentially some lawn games, and the student athletes are able to actually take photos and mix with fans.

I'm just hoping to talk Money Moody into a punt pass and kick contest...

My guess is since it's…

My guess is since it's sponsored by the collective the ticket sales go directly into the war chest, not specifically to these players.

Featuring the most prominent athletes makes sense to sell as many tickets as possible, generate the most revenue, and create the most buzz around how Michigan is stepping up their NIL support.

Legendary.

This is a great comment.

I…

This is a great comment.

I do think NIL is a convenient target, especially with specific recruiting battles, because one can theorize the solution to the problem is throwing more money to solve that specific battle. However, a proper NIL strategy for a program needs to account for more nuanced issues.

Great, you pulled off a 5* but how does the rest of the class feel that he received a six figure check and they haven't? What happens if that kid is actually passed on the depth chart, does the coach feel indebted to donor X to keep him in the starting lineup so donor X feels like their investment was worth it?

What about the team dynamic? A group of freshman flashing more cash than an established 4 year starter is exactly what A&M is dealing with (20+ in the portal).

I'm just reading other fan sites, but the stipend route seems the most sustainable to me. Encourage donors to donate to a collective to hit their raise target of X million, that provides every Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior a base amount that's standard across the class. Players will earn additional compensation based on the market, ie JJ, Blake and Donovan, but that doesn't tear apart the locker room because it's controlled by outside opportunities. Have the school devote resources to allow all athletes to maximize their NIL dollars bridging the business school to students that now suddenly have an income. Publicize the success stories of students who use NIL money to start their own ventures or give back to (or even start their own) nonprofits.

To me that's the balanced short term and long term strategy for success.

I had a few different…

I had a few different friends show up and they said it was awesome! Took a little bit for the team to get in the building after traveling, but Valiant had pizza and a DJ to keep the crowd entertained.

Once the team arrived they gave high fives and hugs to everyone who attended (approx a couple hundred people) and then multiple team members spoke on stage thanking the crowd including Ronnie, Mike Mo, Mikey S, and Eyabi.

Hopefully we'll have an even bigger celebration with more of a heads up in January!

Go Blue!

Lol agreed, although I…

Lol agreed, although I wonder if there's some odd compliance reason behind using Hutch?
