MSU Football X (a.k.a. Twitter) put out a little video that people believe teases that MSU will wear alternate uniforms on Saturday.

The alternate uniform is called "Shadows" which was revealed before the season.

Ah, yes, a "black for black's sake" jersey set. How original.

There are some nice black sets out there, and I'll admit MSU has rolled out some really clean kits in the past (neon monstrosities aside), but black jersey sets when black isn't a normal team color are easily the most low-effort, overused, and unimaginative jersey design theme in sports.

I don't think I'd mind State rolling out some Neon Green uniforms, as long as it's not a mix of greens.  Something I really dislike.  If they had used the neon green here for numbers and names and logos, so it pops, I think it would have been a cool look.

I personally prefer they'd go back to the more kelly green they used to wear and I really don't like the lettering of Michigan State.  It's unique, but I hate how some of the letters flow into others. The letters going together looks forced (just like most things at state too soon sorry).

They are unhinged when it comes to playing us, to the point of deliberately trying to injure our players. The illness is inbred from the coaching staff on down. I resent having to play such an opponent in the B1G, who tolerates the malicious behavior with a wink and a nod. I’ll be less pissed off when we’re back in Ann Arbor with a win and no injuries.

I'm with Grampy. I hate this game. Take a look back to last season. MSU comes out playing well. Tuck is raving mad on the sidelines over a correct call. CHOP, CHOP, CHOP! The second half is much different. Michigan puts a stranglehold on Sparty, and the outcome is never really in doubt. Does Sparty say "good game" and go home? No, they want to fight right through the final whistle. Later, like jackals, they wait in the tunnel for any Wolverines who have strayed from the herd.

When twilight silence falls

uhh expecting a raucous crowd, are we?

These seems fitting for a program that is a shadow of its former self. also the darkness helps obscure the masturbation, right, Mel?

I so disliked the poetry of the quoted line that I had to google it. I didn’t realize it is part of the Sparty alma mater.

“When twilight silence falls” struck me as boringly tropey. More than that, it is awkward in that “twilight silence” evokes a picture or feeling that differs minimally from that evoked by “twilight” or “silence” if either were operating on its own.

It’s the “frightful scare” of wording. Ordinary (and probably underserving of my diss) but also unsuited for an important lyric or reference.

So, their alma mater sucks and arriving here couldn’t possibly have been worth my time.

Here's some better poetry re: shadows

Look at me now, a shadow of the man I used to be...
Look through my eyes and through the years of loneliness you'll see...
To the times in my life when I could not bear to lose
A simple game.
And the least of it all was the fortune and the fame...
But the dream seemed to end just as soon as it had begun...
Was I to know?
For the last thing of all that was on my mind
Was the close at the end of the show.
The shadow of a lonely man feels nobody else...

In the shadow of a lonely, lonely man
I can see myself...

But the sound of the crowds when they come to see me now,
Is not the same.
And the jest of it all is I can't recall my name.
But I cling to a hope till I can't hold on anymore...anymore...
And for all the acclaim, I am all alone!
And I see as I look through the door,

The shadow of a lonely man...There's nobody else...
In the shadow of a lonely, lonely man
I can see myself!

...Look at me now, a shadow of the man I used to be....

The Marketing Department deems they wear these types of things, but it seems comically sad (or sadly comic?) for the Spartoons to make a Special Occasion for a game that will be memorable for for all the wrong reasons (for them, not us), in an epically horrible season every Green Germ will want to forget ASAP.

If twilight silence is falling, why does the image show the sun rising over the southeastern corner of the stadium? Astronomy noobz.

MSU: "Introducing our Shadows uniform for the 2023 season"

Harbaugh: "Oooh, you think darkness is your ally? But you merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it nothing to me but blinding!"

Go Blue! Beat Sparty!

Update:

Ryan Day: "Yeah, me too!"

Harbaugh: "You weren't born in the dark, you were born on third base...plus, your name is literally, Day."

all black uniforms make it easier to sulk into the shadows on the heels of a 20+ point beatdown by your big brother in primetime with a home stadium full of Maize and Blue clad fans.
