Moving on Up! Michigan FB recruiting up to #35 for 2025

Submitted by RealElonMusk on April 22nd, 2024 at 11:42 AM

For the poster who asked if the #56 FB Recruting class is good-  it's way to early to be juding or panicking.

B10 looks to be solid though-  Oregon had the #3 2024 class

For 2025, OSU is currently at #1 (3 5* recruits), USC is #4, and Oregon is #21

I expect Michigan to average higher recruiting rankings under Moore because he will face less negative recruiting than Harbaugh.

Not necessarily, the HC inexperience and the NCAA scandals last year will likely yield some sort of negative recruiting material for this year. None the less, all of it can be squashed soon, and I think Moore may be a better recruiter and more relatable than Harbaugh was.

Co-signed.   And it will be nice to have a HC who can be reasonably projected to be at Michigan for the foreseeable future (hopefully).

Hey, I love Jimmy and wish he was still our HC but..........his annual "will he or wont he go" with the NFL definitely took a major toll on recruiting.

if you're not a rival fan purposefully (though ham fistedly) trying to troll, then you need to seek professional help - and i don't mean that in a snarky way, either.

i don't believe you though. your posting history reveals too much.  combined with you join date, you are a previously-banned poster.   please give your prior user name(s).

I think most people understand that rankings are meaningless at this point. The much bigger worry is that it took Sherrone months to land his first recruit, but hopefully the floodgates start to open now...

I think we'll end up just fine, but with that said, I am expecting more than finishing in the 10-15 range.  Winning the NC should help us, but we'll see what happens.

I have to say, it really sucks that we couldn't close on Bryce Underwood.  The overall #1 recruit in the nation just down the street with such strong connections, and we couldn't close.

Moore, Carr, Underwood.

That said I do not begrudge QBs or WRs from not choosing Michigan.  Underwood is going to an offense that just had a Heisman winner and guaranteed top 3 pick (well as guaranteed as you could ask from mocks)

Look at JJ -  prob the best college QB we have ever had and the only major question on him essentially is "not enough data points" despite being a 2 year starter.  It's the offense.  If JJ was in the LSU offense for 1 year we'd at least know just about everything he was capable of in terms of college.

Similarly throw Roman Wilson into the Washington or Oregon offenses and he is probably a guaranteed first rounder.  Instead... not enough data points.  Odunze had 92 catches and 1600 yards alone this year.  Polk 62 for 1159.  Their 3rd WR has about as many catches as Wilson @ 45.  Roman had 48.

Conversely the top OL, TE and RBs should be flocking here in droves.

Next recruit we add ,we could be inside the top 20  .I guess all the Buckeye and Sparty people that cared about our recruiting , will be able to sleep at night !

To be fair............

I doubt Spartan fans are currently concerned with M football recruiting -- given they do not have a single commit for 2025 at present == the B1G recruiting rankings on 247 go from 1 to 17 because  there is a "divide by zero" error for the 18th team.....

Osu will always brag about recruiting. I do not think UM will go all in like buckeyes do. I doubt they will ever have a class ranked less than outside top 10. That said, they can’t develop any of their top talent except WR position. Off season champs at best where points mean little.

MSU? Lol. Bewilders me how they can form a positive sentence in regards to  football against UM, much less be able to find the other pant leg when they get up in the morning. A wow dumb type group.

Moore will face less negative recruiting than Harbaugh. That's one piece of the resume.

Sure.

Moore will face more negative recruiting being an unproven 37 year old HC of a blue blood program.

Harbaugh could recruit on his decade+ of experience as a head coach at college, or the NFL, with tons of success.

I don't think those points above cancel out, nor is it even a fraction of the positives the coaches use for recruiting, and it doesn't even start to factor in all the negative recruiting aspects.

So, if I said that Michigan has three potential first round draft picks on its starting defense wouldn't  that have greater immediate meaning than whether some projected player commitments put Michigan outside the leading programs in college football next year in recruiting ?

Which would have greater immediate value as a guage of on-field performance:  known objective evaluation results against peer talent or projected talent breakdowns from recruiting service prognosticators based on lower level talent observation?

Even then, talent review is still a crap game projection. But I find reliance on known factors much more valuable than talent estimates based on uncertain competitive factors.

A strong year this year, and a team that looks like it will vie for an NC next year, can--I think--place us more permanently in the driver's seat for recruits. Recent great teams have been a strong testament to our recruiting prowess, with so many uncovered diamonds in the rough (see Roman Wilson!). Landscape's going to shift a little with SEC and B1G consolidations. But ideally we'd spot the diamonds AND steadily pull a greater share of stars. More stability at the top should prove a blessing.

I trust the staff.

OSU - according to 247 - has the #1 ranked class today.   There’s been discussion of the importance of development - vs “rating” and what five stars really mean - so, I won’t go there.

The boys in Columbus have 13 committed players … Michigan has four (4).  Every other team of the Top 35’ish teams - except Florida State - has more committed players today than Michigan.  FWIW - FSU also has four committed players.

From an “average player rating” - Michigan’s class is ninth overall - so, there are eight other programs recruiting more highly rated players on average, thus far, than Michigan has.

In the B1G - Michigan is third in average player rating - very close to Oregon.  Oregon’s average player rating is 92.55, while Michigan’s is 92.48.   The Buckeyes have the highest average rating per player in the conference and country at 94.70.

I’m content to have the staff “do their thing” on the recruiting trail - and trust they’ll sign a solid group of young men who are not only talented, but also fit the team’s culture.  Faith.. Family.. Football..

If there’s one thing that football and basketball has taught me it’s that to be successful you have to retain your talented players. The reason football was so successful last year is that proven players largely said they wanted to bring it back one year, work super hard, and dominate the rest of the country. Had Juwan’s team from two years ago all come back (talking Diabate, Jett, and Houstan, as well as Hunter) there’s a realistic chance that Juwan is still our coach. You need to have a strong culture that encourages guys to buy in and come back. Too much roster turnover and it doesn’t matter how good the coach is if you have an inexperienced team it puts a cap on your potential.
