Kyle McCord enters transfer portal
December 4th, 2023 at 7:19 AM ^
My guess is they have their eyes on one of the top QBs in the portal, like Ward or DJU
It’s always a roll of the dice when a team does this…how many thought Sam Hartman would lead ND to the Sun Bowl?
December 4th, 2023 at 7:23 AM ^
Lol DJU was run out of Clemson he’d never survive the cesspool of mercenaries in Columbus
December 4th, 2023 at 9:30 AM ^
If they were dissatisfied with McCord, just wait until Cam Ward throws 3 picks or DJU holds on to the ball for 10 years.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
DJU is mediocre.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:22 AM ^
Will they have enough players to field a team in their bowl game?
December 4th, 2023 at 7:24 AM ^
Sounds like a real culture problem down there in Columbus
December 4th, 2023 at 8:51 AM ^
This is the Exact reason. Get a lot of primadonnas with the me first mentality makes it hard to create the team culture that Michigan has.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:26 AM ^
when you cheat when you run a football factory that supersedes schooling you had better win championships
December 4th, 2023 at 7:27 AM ^
This one is actually shocking to me. Hopefully they don’t get Moore.
let’s go get Walter Nolan imo
December 4th, 2023 at 7:32 AM ^
I hope he transfers to Michigan, and we beat OSU with an average QB.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:51 AM ^
We already did in 2021
We’re running out of new ways to break Ryan Karen Day
December 4th, 2023 at 9:25 AM ^
If we beat them with McCord at QB it would be the End Times down here.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:01 AM ^
He actually wouldn't be a bad guy to bring in to compete for the starting role if JJ goes to the NFL. Think about it: experienced starter, high floor.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:34 AM ^
Harbaugh should take him in a heartbeat. Looks like an NFL level QB.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:37 AM ^
I thought McCord made some really nice throws in the Michigan game. Unfortunately made a couple pretty awful ones, too, but with some proper QB coaching I think the kid could definitely be solid.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:22 AM ^
I agree. I thought he was really solid. I still think at least 50% of the first interception is on MHJ easing up on the route and not fighting through. The final interception was forced by the pressure and they were in desperation mode, so that's a tough situation. His biggest fault seemed to be staring down receivers a bit too much, but good QB's can usually improve on that.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:35 AM ^
I'm sure they'll upgrade. Cam Ward? Do they go after Dante Moore?
December 4th, 2023 at 7:48 AM ^
McCord was #8 in QBR this year, Cam Ward was #50. They're not getting a clear upgrade unless JJ McCarthy or Carson Beck transfers in:
December 4th, 2023 at 8:56 AM ^
Any QB they get won’t be a clear upgrade because Harrison isn’t there
December 4th, 2023 at 9:32 AM ^
Neither of those guys would be an upgrade over McCord in a vacuum and especially not without MHJ, Egbuka, Stover, and possibly Henderson.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:41 AM ^
I feel bad for him for the BS he has assuredly had to endure the last couple of weeks, but the end result of this is only going to benefit OSU, because of course it will. No question they are going to end up with a much more dynamic QB that can make plays on his own. Obvi who knows what things look like 8 months from now but I have a feeling I'm going to be much more nervous about their QB making plays going into The Game next year than I was this year, even though McCord played quite well.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:44 AM ^
Good for him. Always happy to see a cure for mental illness.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:51 AM ^
He probably needs to go somewhere that has lower expectations. All that pressure to win can be really hard on a QB.
Maybe Penn State?
December 4th, 2023 at 12:04 PM ^
He'd actually be perfect in that system..
December 4th, 2023 at 7:51 AM ^
This means one thing, they’re very confident in their portal tampering.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:00 AM ^
Unfortunately, given stroud’s rookie year, I think they can make the argument that they’ll develop you into an NFL mvp candidate by your junior year. It’s not really true, because Stroud is a unicorn, but he certainly enables them to make that case to the top transfer qbs.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:06 AM ^
It was probably his choice. Fleeing that toxic fan base is will probably end up being a great decision for him.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:51 AM ^
rooting for the kid. 11-1 as a first year starter and gets trashed by his own fan base. Day is desperate and fighting for his life..
OSU offense has to be losing close to 90%+ of their 2023 production. that's insane
December 4th, 2023 at 7:55 AM ^
What a perfect example of how an over zealous fan base and a coach that has no personal accountability can drive a talented kid out of town. Hopefully, future kids thinking about joining them will take notice.
December 4th, 2023 at 7:56 AM ^
This is great. Third Base now going to shop in the portal for “best available.” Will cost him a ton of $$$, and I don’t think is the way to build a real team. We might have pushed him over the edge.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:04 AM ^
Depends on who he gets. OSU isn't going to make this kind of move just to pull some grad transfer from Texas Tech in or bring in some guy who's killing it at the FCS level and they're hoping his game translates.
Day will go for the big fish.
My guess is they're lobbying hard for Dante Moore or maybe even Arch Manning. If Ewers decides he's sticking around, which I'm guessing he won't but its not a foregone conclusion that he won't, Manning has the kind of cache and name brand where he can sit there and say "I'm not waiting around another year for my chance." OSU will pay him whatever he wants and they will hand him the keys to the kingdom. He'll be anointed the starter the minute he signs on the dotted line.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:09 AM ^
Seems everyone is assuming it is a move by OSU. I think it's likely the other way around. I think it's probably his decision to flee the toxic fan base and Columbus media. They have been BRUTAL toward him in the last couple weeks.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:11 AM ^
Of all the possible QBs that OSU might go after, I have to believe Manning is the one for whom money is utterly irrelevant.
December 4th, 2023 at 9:33 AM ^
True, but if Ewers is sticking around (again, a big if but he has not definitively said he's leaving after this season), then that's one more year he's riding the bench and waiting on tapping his potential.
If he leaves Texas, it'll be solely for playing time and being able to start, because whatever money OSU can offer, Texas can and will match. I'm just saying OSU will have no issues telling him "how big does this check need to be for you to come to Columbus? Because if you come here, you will start, day one. No questions asked, and Ewers comes back, Texas can't offer you that."
December 4th, 2023 at 11:20 AM ^
Spitballing here. Would it be a bad look for the Manning family if Arch ducks and runs from his commitment?
December 4th, 2023 at 7:56 AM ^
OSU's insane fan base continues hurting the team and I couldn't be more thrilled!
December 4th, 2023 at 10:49 AM ^
Sorry, can't be thrilled about this. I wonder what kind of threats he's gotten.
Bear in mind the Game basically ended on a pick. This is 2023; my baseline expectation is that he's already been doxxed, bricks through the window and everything.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:41 AM ^
We would have heard about that. Guess we’re just left to our wild speculations.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:54 AM ^
In 2023? Literally every public figure is getting death threats. I'm sure even JJ McCarthy is getting death threats. It's a question of volume, and I'll bet you all my MGoPoints McCord got an uptick since The Game.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:00 AM ^
Cryin’ found his new scapegoat. Watch it Kyle, he'll have you investigated and then tell any findings to Thamel Toe at xmas dinner.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:00 AM ^
I did not see that coming, although I'm guessing most everyone didn't.
Knowing OSU's luck, Caleb Williams will decide he's sticking around for one more season and do a grad transfer to OSU. Just because.
Okay that's definitely a bit hyperbolic, but I really doubt McCord makes this kind of move if OSU wasn't already working the transfer portal hard to find another solution. Knowing them, they'll land some big fish like Dante Moore or Arch Manning just because they can.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:01 AM ^
Second least surprising portal entry ever.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:03 AM ^
Beating OSU three times in a row has broken them. They are scrambling. Sitting at home for the 3rd year in a row during championship week, having the fanbase stewing, Day is making a bunch of rash decisions because he doesn't know how to respond.
December 4th, 2023 at 10:51 AM ^
One reason you can say they're sawft is they're not dealing with adversity with any composure whatsoever.
Imagine losing 15 times in 16 years, bucknuts. We don't need to; we've been there.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:06 AM ^
This is also a bad look for Day, instead of sticking with and developing a kid who is clearly a good QB, he is sending the message to future recruits, that if you are not ready to perform, I will cut you loose and go find a QB that someone else developed. Very Lincoln Riley of him.
December 4th, 2023 at 8:11 AM ^
The question is, after he transfers, leads another team to a championship and has a successful NFL career, will he be Kyle McCord the Buckeye?
December 4th, 2023 at 8:13 AM ^
In all seriousness, if he were interested in coming, Michigan should try and get him, think he is the perfect QB for Harbaugh and would have success with him.
December 4th, 2023 at 1:39 PM ^
He can take his'n and beat your'n, and then he can turn around and take your'n and beat his'n.
