"Insider" rumblings Pettiti's near-term future is ominous as B1G AD

I'll start first with the disclaimer: I cannot speak to the level of "credible insider" the reporter is; so until it becomes more substantiated by credible publications, it's best to assume this is just posturing/speculation.

Matt Broder is a former Michigan Baseball player and is now a beat reporter covering the Detroit Lions for Woodward Sports (I know, little to no credibility as a sports journalism outfit; it's Detroit Sports Radio that streams a YouTube channel). He had an interesting/cryptic tweet related to some significant, systemic changes anticipated from some within the Michigan Athletic Department:

While I'm not a huge fan of the way he teases these implications could suggest Harbaugh is in any real trouble of being removed from his HC position (he is about to sign a deal making him the highest paid coach in the B1G), it is the first piece of "credible" speculation I have seen from an actual reporter rather than message board posters and internet sleuths. Given Matt's history as a UM athlete and a credentialed member of the Detroit Sports media - albeit credentialed for the Detroit Lions, not UM - I thought it's at least plausible that some close to the situation have reason to believe Pettiti won't make it in his position through the balance of this year.

Segment below is his commentary on Ermani & Edwards sports talk radio show:

So, if I am interpreting that grammatically terrible and opaque message correctly, if Pettiti doesn't succeed in getting Harbaugh fired by January 2024, Pettiti himself will get fired? That seems very unlikely to me. This looks like pure "let's throw some shit against a wall and see what sticks." Alternatively, it could be a "let's run this up the flagpole and see who salutes." One or the other...

Yeah, that's how I'm reading it and it doesn't make logical sense to me.  I find it hard to believe that all of the ADs care so much about getting rid of harbaugh that they gave an ultimatum like that....besides that Tony P has no power / ability  to make Harbaugh disappear...

I think the tweet only makes sense if we assume that the info it's based on is much more vague. Something akin to "Hey, someone big's going down. No, I can't tell you who or where. But big." That would allow for it to be either Tinpot Tony or JH without requiring logical leaps.

This doesn't make sense.

EITHER someone at B1G thinks JH is in real trouble OR Petiti.

It wouldn't make sense that the outcome of one hinges on the other...unless they're saying if Petiti doesn't get rid of Jim, we'll get rid of him.

I could be way off but I almost read that as Pettiti needs to either level a punishment so severe Jim Harbaugh ends up out of a job or he will be out of a job.  Can’t think of how else that makes sense. Big 10 members don’t get to put Jim out of a job

That makes sense. If that is the kind of pressure he is getting, which has been said before, why would UM be still in B1G? Doesn't make any sense.

However, unless this is substantiated, this is all just rumor.

Harbaugh is going no where and UM is going to leave B1G. UM putting up with this kind of conspiracy doesn't bode well for its brand.

Either we won’t be in the Big Ten, or my preferred option, the low-value conspirators will be shown the door.

We actually have some leverage over Ohio State in that virtually everyone who plays us thinks that they are our rival. You never hear anyone say that about the cooler poopers. Heck, it is even reflected in the number of protected Big Ten rivalry games that we have vs them. Some thing with the Unrivaled Fighting Frames of State College, PA. Why does this matter? A large part of Ohio State‘s value is tied up in their one rivalry. We on the other hand can establish rivalries that will draw audiences pretty much anywhere.
