"Insider" rumblings Pettiti's near-term future is ominous as B1G AD

I'll start first with the disclaimer: I cannot speak to the level of "credible insider" the reporter is; so until it becomes more substantiated by credible publications, it's best to assume this is just posturing/speculation.

Matt Broder is a former Michigan Baseball player and is now a beat reporter covering the Detroit Lions for Woodward Sports (I know, little to no credibility as a sports journalism outfit; it's Detroit Sports Radio that streams a YouTube channel). He had an interesting/cryptic tweet related to some significant, systemic changes anticipated from some within the Michigan Athletic Department:

While I'm not a huge fan of the way he teases these implications could suggest Harbaugh is in any real trouble of being removed from his HC position (he is about to sign a deal making him the highest paid coach in the B1G), it is the first piece of "credible" speculation I have seen from an actual reporter rather than message board posters and internet sleuths. Given Matt's history as a UM athlete and a credentialed member of the Detroit Sports media - albeit credentialed for the Detroit Lions, not UM - I thought it's at least plausible that some close to the situation have reason to believe Pettiti won't make it in his position through the balance of this year.

Segment below is his commentary on Ermani & Edwards sports talk radio show:

Well, commish definitely stuck his neck out with this unprecedented suspension for dubious evidence and an incomplete investigation. I guess it follows that if he was right then Harbaugh would be in line for even stiffer penalties, but if he was wrong then he clearly sucks at his job and should vacate it one way or another.

Here's what I'm wondering: what authority, if any, does the Big Ten have to go in and fire Harbaugh if Michigan doesn't want to fire him?

I suppose they could institute some kind of penalty that makes it so severe that he might as well just leave, but that would be beyond unprecedented and would invite even more of a legal nightmare for all parties involved.

So a high level employee at the Big Ten decides to leak to an internet reporter that either Jim or Petitti will be gone BEFORE the end of the season?

This board really needs laughing emojis

Unless the Big 10 commissioner has the authority to remove a head football coach from an institution which I highly doubt then Jim Harbaugh isn't going anywhere.

I doubt he has the authority to actually fire Harbaugh, but pending the approval of the Joint Committee, he could institute a penalty that is serious enough and, perhaps most importantly, long enough, that essentially causes Harbaugh to say "I'm not waiting this long to coach my team, I'm out of here." So in theory, he could get rid of Harbaugh that way.

The two questions to that are 1) Would that joint committee approve a punishment of that magnitude, and 2) If they did, what kind of legal blowback can they expect from Michigan? Because my guess is Michigan would have serious legal recourse in that situation, and they would unleash all of it. And it would make an already ugly situation even worse.

Watching the full-on melt down happening on 11W as the slow realization of how the real world works is nothing short of hilarious.

Hope you enjoyed your month of circle jerking yourselves, mouth breathers.

I am so tired of the BS regarding alignments and conferences etc.  The fact of the matter is college football is being destroyed by the money interests (and no it isn't player money or coaches money, it is gambling money.  The drive to mega-conferences is a thinly disguised effort to create a wonderful gambling structure as a lower level NFL and the players and the schools are the pawns.  Keep in mind that there are truly student athletes out there on the field, not all of them are playing to reach the NFL.  They are getting screwed by this.

In any case for Michigan, here is my fantasy for the rest of the season.

We crush the Terrapins this Saturday

Run the school down south back south, crush whatever dwarf the west sends us, and at the end of the game the players hoist Harbaugh who has appeared on the sidelines, on their shoulders and march to the locker room singing the Victors leaving the Big Ten dweebs holding a trophy with no one to give it to.  And then the next dayannounce either Pettiti goes or we leave the conference.  Let all those idiots crying for our blood now figure out how much their pocketbooks will take the hit and see if they really want that. ( Yes I am a curmudgeon, now get off my lawn!!!)

Before WKU came to the FBS there was talk of the school shutting the football program down.  So naturally Jack Harbaugh won the, then, I-AA national title and left the trophy on the doorstep of the university president.  Some say it’s just a rumor.  I wouldn’t be shocked if Harbaugh didn’t even get on stage and let Ono handle it.

A majority of the Univ Presidents may have wanted him to discipline Harbaugh, but I think the manner in which Petitti did it is not indicative of a leader.  They may be displeased with his methods.  It was pretty unprofessional and cowardly.
