Dante Moore recruitment takes another turn
The claim is UCLA offered him NFL 1st rd pick money. I don't know what to believe anymore.

Money quote:
The Michigan State rumors then began, but those were all bogus. Moore was interested in Michigan and Notre Dame early in the process and kept the Spartans in mind mainly out of respect for a home state school, but that was never going to be a fit.
Ouch!
December 19th, 2022 at 12:04 PM ^
But…but…but…Sparty JournoBro Thind said MSU processed a QB last month because they were re-focusing their attention on Moore.
December 19th, 2022 at 4:05 PM ^
What you call ouch, I call delicious!
December 19th, 2022 at 11:50 AM ^
Bo Nix is going back to Oregon so he wouldn't play immediately there either.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:15 AM ^
He’s going to Iowa
December 19th, 2022 at 12:11 PM ^
Isn't everybody!
December 19th, 2022 at 12:23 PM ^
Rick, isn’t it heaven?
December 19th, 2022 at 12:45 PM ^
I would love if he went to Iowa. Two QBs who dissed us getting buried by Brian Ferentz would be rich.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:15 AM ^
I wouldn't buy too deeply into whatever Mike Farrell posts. A lot of his content is for clicks and he will put anything out there for hype. I follow the guy personally but I'd wait for more credible sources...
What we do know is that money is a significant factor for his recruitment and I can't blame him for doing so.
Go Blue.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:05 PM ^
He's gone downhill since M*A*S*H ended. Poor guy, starved for attention.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:50 PM ^
This was first time clicking over to that guy's site, and while the story is a whole lot of "yeah, whatever" (Top prospect wants to play right away. Top prospect gets more pay the long he draws out his decision. It's overdetermined), I was stunned by the nearly incomprehensible writing. Not sure if it's because Farrell is letting his intern draft the article or he need to start doing as much but damn. Also, get off my lawn.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:15 AM ^
So it seems the kid wants the money up front, which we’ve heard is the opposite of what Harbaugh and Michigan are willing to do.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:20 AM ^
I'm fine with this.
Michigan is building a foundation of people willing to bet on themselves.
I don't blame a kid for getting paid, but I also respect a kid who is more than a mercenary.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:06 PM ^
Yep! Live and let live.
And don’t take kids who threaten your team culture and cohesion, regardless of how talented he may be.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
He still would be putting it all on the line for the team for at least 3 seasons. Not sure mercenary is the proper term to use there. AD’s get the best deal for themselves, coaches do the same as well. Have 0 problem with kids leveraging their potential to get what’s best for them and their families.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
When I was a high school senior and UCLA offered me $2MM or $3MM to play for them, I would have taken the money and headed out west.
Only problem was that I wasn't a 5* QB and back in those days, the best college coaches made under $200K.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:16 AM ^
If he likes Dillingham so much, why not go to Arizona State? I’m sure there’s some sweet NIL Arizona dollars.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
Article says ASU cannot match what Oregon and UCLA are offering.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:03 PM ^
So ASU donors have implemented a salary cap? Interesting strategy...
December 19th, 2022 at 11:16 AM ^
If he's looking to play immediately, then yeah, that wasn't happening here. The more important news, as it pertains to Michigan, is Dylan Raiola decommiting from OSU in favor of possibly Nebraska. That's a huge blow to OSU.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
I get wanting to play right away, but that might not be best for the kid or the team. Going to be interesting to see how that continues to play a factor in recruitment. It might turn into something where schools won't get a high-level qb commitment unless that school's starter is moving on at the end of that year. Like Davis not committing to Michigan unless JJ heads to the draft after next year.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
Word is they will revisit Davis now who is the only other 2024 QB they have offered who is uncommitted.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:00 PM ^
This is what worries me, and I really hope we can lock up David soon. I'd rather not have our QB outlook be portal or bust after 2023...
December 19th, 2022 at 12:05 PM ^
Unless OSU is about to blow him away in NIL, I don't see what they can offer. We've shown on the field that he can get to the CFP here and JJ will either be a senior or off to the NFL by time he gets on campus. I'd still rather be in our shoes than OSU's.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
The thing that could sell him on OSU is they have a long track record of winning, getting to the playoff, and they let their QB throw a ton to several future NFL starters, so he'll be at the Heisman ceremony. That is what I honestly worry about.
Being objective, if you're a top-level QB, which school showcases your talent more? I cannot honestly say it's Michigan.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:58 PM ^
You don’t see what OSU can offer? Nothing other than the fact they win almost every game, have one of the best passing offenses in college football and always have great receivers to throw to, including two more 5 stars in their 2023 class.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
I have no doubt they'll push hard for Davis but I doubt the kid wants to be Ryan Day's sloppy seconds after they already spurned him once for Dylan. Michigan has made him the priority throughout and now have shown that Ohio State is no longer the defacto ruler of the conference.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:56 AM ^
Nebraska just got Jeff sims
December 19th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
Has he considered where he wants to play football at all in his decision?
December 19th, 2022 at 12:07 PM ^
What DTR this year probably is appealing to the kid. It also helps that he'll be playing in the B1G in a couple years, so he can play in front of family more easily than if he was in the Pac 12.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
No disrespect but if he's not coming to Michigan than why should we care... ? Let's keep tabs on the kids who want to actually come here, actually stay, and actually be Champions.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:48 AM ^
You make it sound like we have to choose between following the kids who might play here and the local talent that is looking elsewhere. It's a big message board and we can do both.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
Yes... A kid in our own backyard who, for whatever reason, doesn't want to play for the powerhouse in his own state (which I think he grew up rooting for) that's playoff bound again after being a back-to-back B1G Champion.
We had a deluge of commits in the past three days; still blows my mind that he isn't one of them.
He's obviously not thinking/posting about us, I guess I just think we should reciprocate the energy.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:39 PM ^
He’s also the first 5* QB from the state since Drew Henson. And in 2 years there will be another with Bryce Underwood.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:16 PM ^
Hes local, he has been recruited heavily by UM for years, UM was on his shortlist....ultimately losing out to Oregon, MSU insiders and fans believed he was flipping to them from Oregon.
All of those points should be something Michigan fans would be interested in
December 19th, 2022 at 12:41 PM ^
He's one of the kids testing the NIL waters and it's important to see how this might shape things to come which can eventually translate to Michigan's recruiting program.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
We'll just be over here winning games in Ann Arbor!
December 19th, 2022 at 12:27 PM ^
And, walking through the “front door” to the CFP, not the back door as another B1G team is doing this year.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:23 AM ^
So does Nike fire his family they employed then (this was allegedly part of Oregon pitch)? How does this work given UCLA is a Jordan school? Sounds like he really wants to start as a freshman…pretty clear why UM would have never been in contention as he would have been behind JJ for 1-2 years assuming he isn’t a heisman caliber talent as a freshman…
December 19th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
Good riddance - sounds like a new version of T. Pryor.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
Amazing what back to back titles and playoff bids will do. IIRC, many people here freaked out when Moore decided not to attend Michigan. Now, it’s more, “eh, whatever.”
December 19th, 2022 at 11:25 AM ^
That would be, in a word, idiotic. UCLA is not Alabama or Texas A&M. There is a reason they joined the B1G -- they are (were) broke. Money is not limitless anywhere, but certainly not at UCLA. And they're (supposedly) offering him multiple millions of dollars, i.e., first-round pick money?
I have heard this pointed out elsewhere and I've increasingly believe it is true -- if you're going to spend money, focus on the portal. If you have $5 million, would you spend it on a 17-year old who has only played against mediocre high school competition (like most have, outside of a few) or a 20-year old who you have, on film, succeeding against B1G, ACC, SEC, etc teams?
It's what makes our transfer portal success this week/year so impressive. We have fixed and/or improved pretty much all the holes in our team and made us a Top 5 team again for 2023 -- and that's even considering our 2023 HS recruiting class will probably end up outside the Top 10.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:57 AM ^
I don't know when water will find its level with NIL, but you'll always get goofy boosters with more money than brains who look at 247 recruiting rankings and want to throw money at a 17 year old. I think the schools will be much wiser because they know full well that there's a hit rate on recruits and just writing a big check to every 17 year old doesn't necessarily build a good team roster and team culture (see: Texas A&M and the Fightin Jimbos)
December 19th, 2022 at 11:27 AM ^
Grain of salt. I just don't see a school that isn't rabid about football doing this.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:28 AM ^
My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with a girl who saw his contract. I guess it’s pretty serious.
December 19th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
“Save Ferris”…
December 19th, 2022 at 11:29 AM ^
This is the problem with putting NIL money on the commitment roulette wheel...you never know if your the last or biggest bet in that long wait before signing day
December 19th, 2022 at 11:31 AM ^
Maybe UCLA should use that money to pay people to come to their games.
December 19th, 2022 at 11:36 AM ^
What I took from this is that Mike Farrell is no longer associated with Rivals. Did he leave when On3 took a bunch of their team sites and staff?
December 19th, 2022 at 11:37 AM ^
Forget it, Jake. It's Westwood
