For some reason, I am not shocked that much of the people posting don't have the same positive outlook you and I do.  If Harbaugh is gone, then I can see Moore or Minter becoming Michigan's next head coach.  These players won a championship with both on staff, so I wouldn't expect many, if any at all, to leave for the portal.  But, this board talks about Minter gone, Harbaugh gone and a coach leading Michigan next year that the players either don't like, or don't know.

Minter will be at Michigan as long as they'll have him. Unless he takes an NFL job. That'll be a mandatory clause in all Warde Manuel contracts moving forward.

Almost certainly. If not this year, soon. That is the price of success. Your coaches get poached. Whoever is head coach next year simply needs to find the next man up. Saban was masterful at that.

Very small chance he was returning even if Jim does. He'll be too in demand by The NFL. I said it right after the NCG and I say again that we all need to just assume he wont be back. Get used to that now and be pleasantly surprised if he does return.

Obviously would love to retain Minter, but if he wants a NFL opportunity, he's got the track record and frankly deserves it. Nothing but love for the mastermind of the defense that got the job done.

One name I rarely hear mentioned but who I personally would like to target: Ryan Osborn.

- Michigan DL analyst in 2021, lauded by guys like Ojabo and Hutchinson and others

- Ravens assistant in 2022, so firmly entrenched in the Harbaugh tree and versed in the Ravens style defense

- Charlotte DC in 2023, under Biff Poggi, a fellow known friend and trusted agent. While Charlotte as a whole sputtered as a young program under a new coach, Osborn punched above his weight, managing the 59th best defense in Yards Per Game, and was the better half of the team compared to a bottom of the barrel offense.

If not as the DC (maybe it's too early), I would really love to bring him back in a different full time position, maybe as the linebackers coach since we need one of those and he handled them for Charlotte in his one season. Dunno if he'll see consideration, but definitely a guy worth keeping tabs on IMO.

I would hate losing Minter. If he does go Jaybaugh (if he stays), Clinksdale, and Elston are all in house candidates who could potentially run the defense.

If not, we will have 1-2 Defensive openings to potentially bring someone in.

I would take the Harbaugh money 15 mill plus what was allocated for assistance so 20 mill and make Minter contract 1 dollar less than Moore or vise versa depending on who gets HC.

The Wink Martindale defense is what these guys know. If you want to keep guys out of the portal.

Offer to make him the highest paid coordinator in college football. The NFL could still outbid it but at least make him think about it.

I’d say there’s at least a 75-80% chance he’s not on staff within a month, but no sense in not at least trying to make it work.

Give minter a blank check and tell him to write his own salary. I often wondered, when the offense would sputter for half a game, whether Minter was the coordinator we wanted to promote….

regardless, minter is a must if Harbaugh leaves. This D has too many pieces and will be the linchpin for next year to bring in an unknown

Clink has been learning the defense under Mike and Minter. The plan was always for him to eventually take over, because Minter wants to go back to the NFL. He’s not unhappy at Michigan, but he believes he can become a head coach in the NFL eventually. Clink knows the defense Mike and Minter run and how they each vary it some to their liking. Clink would obviously be a new DC as far as being “the guy” but he’s more than prepared. Osborn is definitely a guy they could try to bring back as the LB coach and co-DC with Clink. But it would be Clink who’s truly running the defense. This will be the plan even if Harbaugh goes to the NFL. Moore would promote Clink.

Could he be gone?  I'd say he's almost assuredly gone, unless Warde offers him the HC position, and I'm not even sure that would keep him here, even IF Warde felt so inclined (and we have no reason to think he does).

Yes, Minter has been brilliant but he is not the first DC M fans have been in love with:

- Broyles-winning Jim Hermann looked like a genius steering the '97 defense to an undefeated season and a Heisman.  He was let go in 2005 after giving up 32 points to Nebraska and currently coaching ... a team in Austria.

- Don Brown arrived as a living legend and the memory of how that ended is fresh

- Even Greg Mattison was buzzy on this site at one time; still having trouble erasing the image of Mattison and Hoke arguing on the sidelines

Yeah, it would be great if he stays, but guarantees little either way,
