Say he connected. That would…

Say he connected. That would the type of hit that happened to a Michigan player and the refs would decide it wasn't a penalty.

He left his feet and tried…

He left his feet and tried to throw and elbow at the guy's head. If he connected with that he'd have potentially injured the guy and gotten himself suspended. Match penalty 100%.

More than knocking on wood…

More than knocking on wood and less than Jim Leyland.

I'd go with 2021 Ohio State…

I'd go with 2021 Ohio State since it was such a long time coming probably tied with the Rose Bowl.

I'm going to toss this out there. A weird one I realize. I think 2023 PSU was super important. Sure, Harbaugh wasn't on the sideline but winning that game at that time in that stadium with all the surrounding circumstances... They HAD to win that game or talking heads would have been questioning the legitimacy of his entire tenure. It also set the stage for a career-beginning win for their future HC.

I live near Louisville so we…

I live near Louisville so we had to drive a bit north; my area was only 99.5% or something. We drove some back roads up to around North Vernon, IN and never had any trouble with traffic. It was some random church in backwoods Indiana where no one else was. We were home around 4:20. The moment the total eclipse was over we GTFO.

I read that the difference between 99% and 100% is the difference between ordinary and extraordinary and that's right.

It's amazing to me that even at 99% the sun is too bright to look at directly. The eclipse itself was spectacular. It rained overnight, cleared out during the day, and then rained again last night. We got lucky.

Fuck. I know the net result…

Fuck. I know the net result of the situation is the same regardless but I'm really hoping it's not suicide. Accidental deaths just happen but suicides are usually preceded by long-term pain. I "hope" for anything else, if that makes sense.

Dude, you cranked all that…

Dude, you cranked all that out in 18 hours. Pretty impressive and an excellent column to boot.

Are Sparty fans blaming Connor Stallions by chance?

Let's enjoy this one. We're in a golden age of Michigan athletics. Love it.

I grew up in Ann Arbor. Had season tickets starting in Red's first year. Been a Michigan fan forever. But I'm also a Purdue alum. Michigan is and and will be my #1 but what a great day.

I put Matt Painter and John…

I put Matt Painter and John Beilein together. Bonus football coach is Joe Tiller.

Coach I hated was Bob Huggins. One of his players punched a police horse.

I love the dude in white…

I love the dude in white trying to play it cool while realizing his buddy is a dumbass.

They got softball already…

They got softball already. That's even up with women's basketball.

Flash back to 1994 when…

Flash back to 1994 when Michigan beat Lake Superior four times and then played them in the tournament. Sparty has that now. IIRC, the Lakers won it all that year.

We didn't sacrifice them a…

We didn't sacrifice them a little either. 8 wins and a fired coach is a total kill shot. I think we've earned a hockey championship.

When we sacrificed the…

When we sacrificed the basketball team to the sports gods, do you guys think we got enough credits for both a football and a hockey championship?

I live in Louisville and I…

I live in Louisville and I can mostly verify the panic. There's also a little resignation of sucking since this isn't their first coaching search recently.

Was Scruggs' tenure shorter…

Was Scruggs' tenure shorter than his background check? Better question is "how did a dude with two priors pass the background check?"

You can take my block M shirt with "Espionage Video Dept" on it.

Congrats to him on getting…

Congrats to him on getting his degree. Best of luck to him at his new school. Hopefully he'll get a masters out of that one.

If you go to about the 1:38…

If you go to about the 1:39:00 mark, give or take, after Jalen Rose hits a couple of OT free throws, Jim Nantz and Billy Packer just shut up for well over a minute and let us listen. It's one of my favorite moments from that game. I don't know why exactly; it just is.

Announcers nowadays don't know how to do that. Thanks for posting. I went straight to that time to watch it again.

I was thinking his comp is…

I was thinking his comp is Baker Mayfield without the stats, more recently. His older comp is probably Jim Harbaugh.

It's Shark Week mf'er.

It's Shark Week mf'er.

During that time Michigan…

During that time Michigan would have had six playoff appearances, three final fours and a national championship.

That's not pertinent to this topic but it felt like it was worth saying just because.

Watch out Lamar.

Watch out Lamar.

Remember, this is the price…

Remember, this is the price we paid for sacrificing the basketball team to the sports gods for a football championship.

Weird shit is just gonna happen until the sports gods extract their price.

Say what you want about…

Say what you want about Michigan fans being arrogant but at least we don't pull that religious moral high ground shit.

I think Trente is a lock. He…

I think Trente is a lock. He's not a high pick because of a lack of experience but you know someone is taking a flyer on that athletic ability.

Not sure about first round…

Not sure about first round just because of his position. But otherwise he's a first round talent imo.

Carmen San Diego has a much…

Carmen San Diego has a much better ring to it than Carmen Los Angeles. Carmen Los Angeles just sounds like a porn star name.

I don't understand the…

I don't understand the problem with the commitment NIL, even in its current state. Michigan literally has (I think) the wealthiest graduate of any P5 school. Get in touch with him. Larry Page is worth triple what Phil Knight is worth and we see how Oregon's programs have grown.

What excuse does Michigan have given the wealth of its alumni base?

They have James Houston…

They have James Houston there. He's just been injured. If he is going to come back healthy I'd be looking at (ok, maybe one additional edge rusher) tackles and secondary. Take as many as you can find.

They also need guards on offense but those can be addressed in free agency.

Congrats to them! That…

Congrats to them! That definitely softens the Lions' blow.

The temptation this…

The temptation this offseason will be to "go all in" to win the Super Bowl next year, ala the Rams a couple years ago. I hope they don't do that. They're close but I'd rather them build something for sustainable success than mortgage the future for next season which may or may not work out.

I'm fine if they use every draft pick on defense. Offense just has a few holes that can be plugged in free agency without breaking the bank (Mike Onwenu?). At some point their young stars will be getting paid.

Did anyone else catch George…

Did anyone else catch George Kittle say "They had us in the first half. Not gonna lie?" lol

Probably the AFC Central…

Probably the AFC Central still. I have a sneaking suspicion the Vikings are going to suck next season and we can always count on the Bears.

(in unison) ...and now his watch has ended.

I think the majority of…

I think the majority of first rounders might be next year, ironically. Johnson, Grant, Graham and Loveland have had first round projections. I could see Grant surprising everyone and going top 10. The talent is there.

Donovan Edwards is a wild card imo.

I'm with you. It doesn't…

I'm with you. It doesn't matter what happens for the rest of my life, I got to see my favorite team make three straight playoff appears, win three straight games against Ohio State, three straight Big Ten Championships, a Rose Bowl and a National Championship. Oh, and they went 40-3 in that span.

They can get Patrick Mahomes to go there and still nothing that Ohio State does is going to bring me down from that.

Alabama hired an outsider…

Alabama hired an outsider. If Michigan hires from within, a coach with whom the current players and recruits already have a relationship, I wouldn't expect a mass exodus. Transfers yes, but nothing debilitating.

We'll look back and say "how…

We'll look back and say "how did these guys not win the national championship? Oh wait, they did!"

From what I've seen from the…

From what I've seen from the Dolphins tonight JJ might have a press conference to say he's taking his talents to South Beach.

I've never understood the…

I've never understood the fascination with attending your favorite school. I grew up in Ann Arbor. My dad had season tickets to Michigan so I went to all the games. When it came to going to college it seemed like everyone was going to Michigan and I preferred to not be around the same people forever.

I ended up going to Purdue (say what you want about Purdue; their engineering school is excellent). But Michigan was always my favorite team to root for. Does wanting to go away to college make me less of a fan? Does that make me a "Walmart Wolverine?"

I'm not sure if that would…

I'm not sure if that would make him the de facto boss, maybe in the same way I'm the de facto boss in sexual harrassment law. /s

As long as he keeps on about paying players, the NCAA isn't going to leave him alone. And what would be a more Jim Harbaugh thing to do than to sign a 20 year extension just to stick it to the NCAA?

He bitch slapped a Wisconsin…

He bitch slapped a Wisconsin coach so at least he has that going for him.

That was amazing.
