Chargers complete interview with Harbaugh
January 15th, 2024 at 5:04 PM ^
They post the same thing about open candidacy. At least it didn’t last long like the Vikings gig? Other than that, I don’t see much else to look into on this?
January 15th, 2024 at 5:06 PM ^
There is a rumor out there that the Chargers were very impressed with Mike McDonald and are leaning in that direction.
The fact that I started that rumor with no facts is besides the point...
January 15th, 2024 at 5:12 PM ^
Next time, please start the rumor of Leslie Frazier so big brother doesn't take back Minter when McDonald leaves.....
January 15th, 2024 at 6:32 PM ^
When I heard Leslie Frazier, I was thinking this guy, but he just died so....probably not him.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:35 PM ^
+1 on this.. I highly recommend whatever a Giff Smith is and further that MacDonald just go home to the Ravens and we are finished here.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:13 PM ^
Yeah, Jim is just one of his references
January 15th, 2024 at 5:13 PM ^
There is also a rumor out there that, because the Chargers were very impressed with Mike Macdonald and are leaning in that direction, they asked Jim Harbaugh to "interview" just to get his take on Mike Macdonald.
The fact that I added to a rumor you started with no facts is also besides the point...
January 15th, 2024 at 5:25 PM ^
Sources are now confirming both that Mike MacDonald is the favorite for the Chargers job and that Jim was interviewed solely as a reference for MacDonald.
The fact that I am the source and am not credible on this in the slightest is further irrelevant!
January 15th, 2024 at 5:38 PM ^
Gerald, don’t sell yourself short. You’re a tremendous slouch
January 15th, 2024 at 6:01 PM ^
Back at you XM :)!
January 15th, 2024 at 5:32 PM ^
New post: There is a rumor that Harbaugh farted during the interview and then pretended like nothing happened. The remainder of the interview was shortened due to the poor air quality in the room.
The Chargers' owner did not appreciate this lack of manners from the coaching candidate. No offer is forthcoming.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:54 PM ^
Sources tell me that it was an SBD fart. When someone said if anyone just farted, Harbaugh had a reply of, "You smelt it, you dealt it"
January 15th, 2024 at 6:14 PM ^
This is impressive! You guys (or gals) could quit your job and be hired as an ESPN analyst! They like this kind of reporting!
January 16th, 2024 at 1:08 PM ^
He probably just said "I don't recall" and refused to cooperate further.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:35 PM ^
So it's FartGate now? NCAA suspension for Contributing to Noxious Air Quality (Harbaugh Only) is 2 games.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:51 PM ^
If I have Herbert I am hiring an offensive coach not McDonald
But I like your sourcing so gonna go with that!
January 15th, 2024 at 5:07 PM ^
Anybody else over this shit every single January? I love what Jim has done for Michigan and if he truly wants to go slay the Super Bowl dragon so be it, but this gets tiring every year.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:08 PM ^
Yes. Bring on Sherrone Moore.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:11 PM ^
If Jim stays you better eat your crow. You've been one of the most pessimistic posters for the decade I've been on this blog.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:16 PM ^
who has to eat crow? the man interviews for these jobs every offseason. He spent 8 hours interviewing on NSD.
Like I love the guy and appreciate all he's done, cannot wait until it's renamed Harbaugh Hall. But at a certain point the man needs to shit or get off the pot and now is the best shot he'll have to either leave with all the goodwill imaginable or say he's staying for the rest of his life.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:23 PM ^
Before this year, he interviewed exactly once.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:29 PM ^
sure, fine, he has "informal talks" with NFL owners or interviews every year
January 15th, 2024 at 5:58 PM ^
Well he interviewed with the Vikings in 2021 and the Panthers and Broncos last year. Now the Chargers.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:01 PM ^
He didn’t interview last year. Fake news.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:11 PM ^
He literally had two separate talks with the Broncos about their job opening. He admitted to that.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:56 PM ^
He spent 8 hours interviewing on NSD.
I get this was a big narrative being pushed by some last year, but our entire class had already signed and we weren’t recruiting anybody to close the class out. Jim interviewing on signing day was no more relevant than if he were interviewing any other day.

My formatting muscle hurts real bad, coach.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:28 PM ^
Sorry. I tried to share a screenshot instead, but for whatever my iPad wouldn’t upload it.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:34 PM ^
You’re good man- just making a lighthearted joke :)
January 15th, 2024 at 6:27 PM ^
Thanks for reminding me of that message board. Or the edge of the internet as it was once called here. I've found insightful information there in the past.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:08 PM ^
Calling him a pessimist is a compliment!!!
January 15th, 2024 at 5:23 PM ^
I’m over it for the simple fact that it absolutely hurts our portal recruiting and I’m sure our actual recruiting. One off season, sure. 3 in a row, it absolutely is impacting our future teams. I have no problem with him wanting to coach in the NFL, but these searches are occurring at really important points in the off season when the staff should be getting transfers on campus and using our recent success to attract them. There is a complete lack of that type of action this year.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:27 PM ^
Precisely. This has gone on multiple years now even after he said this would not be an an annual occurrence.
January 15th, 2024 at 7:29 PM ^
Yeah, I just don't care. He can interview every offseason and during the bye week if he keeps the team humming.
And how exactly did this hurt us in the portal last year?
January 15th, 2024 at 7:33 PM ^
the simple fact that it absolutely hurts our portal recruiting
Is that a fact? We seem to have done perfectly well in the portal the past few years.
I don't love going through this, but it means having one of the best coaches in the country, I'll live with it.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:25 PM ^
I agree.
It's gotten real old. It's time for Jim to move on.
I can't imagine anyone wanting a middling NFL Charger gig over UM who has reached elite status.
Maybe, it's just because I think the college game is much better.
Forgive me for being disappointed, but I can't hide it.
Good Luck coach, but please move on.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:43 PM ^
I’m not saying it’s time to move on from him, but I do think it’s reasonable for the AD to be using language in his contract to dissuade this from happening every off season. Or wanting to slap a massive buyout on him. Big buyouts on successful coaches is not a novel concept except in Ann Arbor.
January 15th, 2024 at 8:00 PM ^
A sufficient buyout would do that
January 15th, 2024 at 6:02 PM ^
People here were saying the same fucking stuff a year ago.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:29 PM ^
Interviewed once in 9 years plus today. But … yes … every year
January 15th, 2024 at 5:39 PM ^
Yeh- I get that but it has been completely worth it.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:51 PM ^
This year I get it. I think the university support of Jim has been lousy, and I blame Warde.
January 15th, 2024 at 5:57 PM ^
I was over it last year, and the year before, and I was vocal on the board about it.
I also didn't believe him when he said he was done with the NFL.
BUT
National Champs 2023. I'm fine with WHATEVER he wants to do at this point.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:02 PM ^
Who did he interview with before last season?
January 15th, 2024 at 7:25 PM ^
I think the order was, Vikings (in person) after the first B1G championship season, then phone interviews or at least discussions last year with Denver and Carolina, then of course the Chargers today.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:11 PM ^
I’d prefer if Harbaugh would see that building a dynasty here like Saban built is every bit as much an accomplishment as winning a Super Bowl, but if he is absolutely intent on chasing a Super Bowl he has certainly earned that right. I just want to end the uncertainty so it doesn’t kill our recruiting of new kids, transfers, our existing roster, and coaches.
January 15th, 2024 at 6:45 PM ^
Prior to this current run that Michigan is on Harbaugh took a pay cut and was probably on the borderline of being fired. I’m sure he didn’t feel much love. That has to be in the back of his mind that this fan base can turn on you quickly. I would keep my options open too and one could argue that if you still have interest in going to the NFL his stock isn’t going to get any higher.
I hope he stays. If he leaves I would understand.

Call me when there’s an accepted offer.
