I think you should use fancy stats to make your point and not these outdated stats that don’t account for ball control. But i basically agree. He seems like a very good locker room guy, a great oline coach and a great drive scripter, but his in game OC abilities seem extremely limited. Maybe he might be a better head coach than OC because of these things but i could see him being a total hoke type failure too

There were a lot of factors that went into those final offensive rankings for Michigan, not the least of which was having to play some pretty darn good defenses for about half of the games. And given Michigan’s defensive ranking and play against a top offensive unit in the NC game, those defensive units Michigan played against were truly legitimate.

Im not saying Michigan’s offense was great, but it was undeniably pretty darn good itself. And that was with breaking in a couple of new starters on the line(including one of the best centers ever to play at Michigan), Corum losing half a step from the previous season, losing your go to wr target to the NFL along with two road grading TEs that were a huge part of 2022s rushing success. Given all of that, plus having to play against such great defenses, I’d say that the 2023 offense was a great coaching job by Moore.

given the timing involved here, i don't think it'd be a terrible idea to offer Moore a 2yr contract and see what happens.  If Warde doesn't like his performance toward the end of year 1, he can start looking for a replacement when it makes sense to do so.  Trying to find a college head coach in February is...less than ideal.  Anyone worthy of consideration already has a job at this point.

Unless Warde knows who the next Kalen DeBoer is, AND can poach him, i think holding the cards he has makes the most sense for the 2024 season.

I agree that SM delivered at those times, but when you are a Head Coach vs a coordinator standing in as HC? Honestly, how much of the game plan was JH talking in his ear before the game, and if SM takes over as HC, and JH isn't there everyday harping about the game plan, will SM start doing his own planning, and decision making? The two latter have not been shown yet.

Harbaugh's game plan, players, hired coordinators vs Sherrone's game plan, players, coordinators?

I hope that Sherrone Moore is successful, because I am human, and don't want to see anyone (except oSU) fail. And I am a Michigan Fans, and if he is next in line, I REALLY don't want to see him fail!!!

to answer your question, I think the probability of the answer being “no, he will not do his own planning or make decisions” is exactly 0. This might be the dumbest question I’ve ever seen asked on this board. I mean, I get that people around here have a fetish for empiricism. But seriously. The fact that the head coach did the game planning and made decisions might imply that his assistants would not do their own game planning if/when they become head coaches? No, that is not reasonable. C’mon man.

I got to admit that I am not a fan of the trick plays that he seems to call just about every game (halfback pass, flea flicker). They were cute the first time or two, but after that, it was like dude, come on! Not to mention JJ got smashed by that bama guy and could have really got hurt.

This is a dumb take. There are at least 4 guys in staff who could run this program. To hire an outside candidate and risk messing up the team culture is ridiculous. People who are against hiring Moore have some kind of agenda or something worse behind their reasoning. It just doesn’t make sense.

Culture is what generates performance, so you’re presenting a circular argument by presuming that we’d have a mediocre record.

What, do you mean to imply that bringing in a new coaching staff would immediately result in more wins? Really?

*ahem* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Didn’t see that one coming. Hopefully, he is just leveraging to get what he wants from Warde and Santa. I just keep going back and watching the end of the CFP Championship Game and reveling in the glory whenever I get anxious about Coach Harbaugh possibly leaving. Makes everything better.

... and we might get slaughtered if the team falls apart over the off-season.

Not sure the mentality required for someone to come back to their alma mater - a place highly personal to them - spend 9 years toiling to get it back to national relevance... just to risk having it collapse after leaving?

To each their own, of course, but still...

What people always fail to grasp when they throw this quote out there as indicia of either him staying or being a turncoat:

I am beginning to think that, in his mind, not acceding to his every demand = not wanting him here, in his view.

Agree. But I think your phrasing is pretty harsh on him. In this day and age, look at what NCAA enforcement has yielded against the likes of Kansas, Tennessee, etc. Is it really unreasonable for him to expect the university to go to bat for him and play hardball with those crooks for his benefit?

Because one could make a pretty strong argument that planning to dunk on the NCAA every time they try some petty ass BS is the baseline for serious collegiate athletics programs, and is reasonable and appropriate to expect.
