Atlanta Falcons Interview Harbaugh
a new option appears

And despite those terrible offensive numbers, Michigan was able to win a Freaking National Championship wow.
January 17th, 2024 at 7:15 AM ^
I think you should use fancy stats to make your point and not these outdated stats that don’t account for ball control. But i basically agree. He seems like a very good locker room guy, a great oline coach and a great drive scripter, but his in game OC abilities seem extremely limited. Maybe he might be a better head coach than OC because of these things but i could see him being a total hoke type failure too
January 17th, 2024 at 8:38 AM ^
There were a lot of factors that went into those final offensive rankings for Michigan, not the least of which was having to play some pretty darn good defenses for about half of the games. And given Michigan’s defensive ranking and play against a top offensive unit in the NC game, those defensive units Michigan played against were truly legitimate.
Im not saying Michigan’s offense was great, but it was undeniably pretty darn good itself. And that was with breaking in a couple of new starters on the line(including one of the best centers ever to play at Michigan), Corum losing half a step from the previous season, losing your go to wr target to the NFL along with two road grading TEs that were a huge part of 2022s rushing success. Given all of that, plus having to play against such great defenses, I’d say that the 2023 offense was a great coaching job by Moore.
January 17th, 2024 at 9:12 AM ^
given the timing involved here, i don't think it'd be a terrible idea to offer Moore a 2yr contract and see what happens. If Warde doesn't like his performance toward the end of year 1, he can start looking for a replacement when it makes sense to do so. Trying to find a college head coach in February is...less than ideal. Anyone worthy of consideration already has a job at this point.
Unless Warde knows who the next Kalen DeBoer is, AND can poach him, i think holding the cards he has makes the most sense for the 2024 season.
January 17th, 2024 at 9:53 AM ^
So, you’d prefer padded stats and video game offense to wins? Cuz I see a lot of wins.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:55 PM ^
And yet with Penn State, Maryland and Ohio State on the schedule and the season on the line, Harbaugh picked Moore to be the acting head coach. We all know he delivered. I think that says more about his abilities as a head coach than anything else
January 16th, 2024 at 11:33 PM ^
I agree that SM delivered at those times, but when you are a Head Coach vs a coordinator standing in as HC? Honestly, how much of the game plan was JH talking in his ear before the game, and if SM takes over as HC, and JH isn't there everyday harping about the game plan, will SM start doing his own planning, and decision making? The two latter have not been shown yet.
Harbaugh's game plan, players, hired coordinators vs Sherrone's game plan, players, coordinators?
I hope that Sherrone Moore is successful, because I am human, and don't want to see anyone (except oSU) fail. And I am a Michigan Fans, and if he is next in line, I REALLY don't want to see him fail!!!
January 17th, 2024 at 9:56 AM ^
if SM takes over as HC, and JH isn't there everyday harping about the game plan, will SM start doing his own planning, and decision making? The two latter have not been shown yet.
to answer your question, I think the probability of the answer being “no, he will not do his own planning or make decisions” is exactly 0. This might be the dumbest question I’ve ever seen asked on this board. I mean, I get that people around here have a fetish for empiricism. But seriously. The fact that the head coach did the game planning and made decisions might imply that his assistants would not do their own game planning if/when they become head coaches? No, that is not reasonable. C’mon man.
January 17th, 2024 at 7:16 AM ^
Sure. And in every single one of those games, even Maryland, we depended on the defense to play out of its mind while the offense disappeared in the middle of the game.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:58 PM ^
Having the 2nd best offense in stats in the Big Ten is not below average my friend.
January 17th, 2024 at 7:18 AM ^
Correct but we won because of defense. Our offense tended to generally just be barely good enough. Mind blowingly elite defense and solid offense
January 16th, 2024 at 11:16 PM ^
Except Minter doesn't recruit...
January 16th, 2024 at 11:19 PM ^
I got to admit that I am not a fan of the trick plays that he seems to call just about every game (halfback pass, flea flicker). They were cute the first time or two, but after that, it was like dude, come on! Not to mention JJ got smashed by that bama guy and could have really got hurt.
January 17th, 2024 at 7:23 AM ^
This is a dumb take. There are at least 4 guys in staff who could run this program. To hire an outside candidate and risk messing up the team culture is ridiculous. People who are against hiring Moore have some kind of agenda or something worse behind their reasoning. It just doesn’t make sense.
January 17th, 2024 at 10:00 AM ^
The culture take is so annoying. We’ll see how the culture is when we go 6-6 or 7-5 next year with our vaunting schedule and a first time head coach. Yea the culture is gonna save us there..
January 17th, 2024 at 10:07 AM ^
Culture is what generates performance, so you’re presenting a circular argument by presuming that we’d have a mediocre record.
What, do you mean to imply that bringing in a new coaching staff would immediately result in more wins? Really?
*ahem* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
p.s. *daunting schedule
January 17th, 2024 at 10:05 AM ^
Maybe something like why a bunch of people from around here couldn’t stand Jim “Winningest Coach in Lions History” Caldwell?
January 16th, 2024 at 10:08 PM ^
He seems to be doing the tour..next probably Wash then maybe Dallas if Jones cuts bait with McCarthy?
January 16th, 2024 at 10:11 PM ^
Harbaugh working for Jerry Jones would be so entertaining
January 16th, 2024 at 11:10 PM ^
And he'll last exactly one season.
January 16th, 2024 at 11:26 PM ^
The Big Tuna co-existed with Jerry Jones for four years. He was probably higher maintenance than Harbaugh.
January 17th, 2024 at 10:10 AM ^
But who is higher maintenance than Jerry Jones?
January 16th, 2024 at 11:27 PM ^
Would be the 2nd funniest option for the Cowboys outside of Belichick.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:08 PM ^
Who’s got it better than ______
January 16th, 2024 at 10:35 PM ^
Sommmmmmebody
January 16th, 2024 at 11:57 PM ^
Hahaha. That was good
January 16th, 2024 at 11:25 PM ^
Anybody… apparently
January 16th, 2024 at 10:08 PM ^
Probably just using this as leverage against the Chargers and Michigan. Can't see him leaving Michigan for the falcons
January 16th, 2024 at 10:09 PM ^
Didn’t see that one coming. Hopefully, he is just leveraging to get what he wants from Warde and Santa. I just keep going back and watching the end of the CFP Championship Game and reveling in the glory whenever I get anxious about Coach Harbaugh possibly leaving. Makes everything better.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:56 PM ^
Leveraging the Rams therefore leveraging Michigan therefore leveraging the Rams. Jim’s playing 3D leveraging chess. Let him get it all out of his system…
January 16th, 2024 at 10:10 PM ^
I don’t even care anymore.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:14 PM ^
In September the sun will come up and we'll put a football team on the field, and somebody will be there to coach it.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:20 PM ^
This is the right mentality. I obviously would love to have Coach Harbaugh stay for continuity, but if the man chooses to pursue the NFL, more power to him. He’s brought Michigan back to where it should be, and he should be applauded for that.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:29 PM ^
Agreed. I am actually hoping he takes an NFL job. I'd like to see him get a Super Bowl and Michigan will continue on with or without him. He's earned it.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:43 PM ^
And 5 years from now when we're 5-7 I'm blaming you...just kidding!
January 16th, 2024 at 10:52 PM ^
Don't worry. If we're 5-7 five years from now, I would blame my sorry ass too:)
January 16th, 2024 at 11:31 PM ^
After Harbaugh wins the Super Bowl, he will have achieved his career goal & come back to Michigan to his dream job where he will coach until he dies.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:33 PM ^
... and we might get slaughtered if the team falls apart over the off-season.
Not sure the mentality required for someone to come back to their alma mater - a place highly personal to them - spend 9 years toiling to get it back to national relevance... just to risk having it collapse after leaving?
To each their own, of course, but still...
January 16th, 2024 at 10:46 PM ^
I, for one, will be fucking livid if he bails out right after winning a NC.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:59 PM ^
I guess we should have paid more attention to the part where he said he's "assessing his future at Michigan on a year-to-year basis.."
January 17th, 2024 at 12:16 AM ^
What people always fail to grasp when they throw this quote out there as indicia of either him staying or being a turncoat:
I am beginning to think that, in his mind, not acceding to his every demand = not wanting him here, in his view.
January 17th, 2024 at 10:15 AM ^
Agree. But I think your phrasing is pretty harsh on him. In this day and age, look at what NCAA enforcement has yielded against the likes of Kansas, Tennessee, etc. Is it really unreasonable for him to expect the university to go to bat for him and play hardball with those crooks for his benefit?
Because one could make a pretty strong argument that planning to dunk on the NCAA every time they try some petty ass BS is the baseline for serious collegiate athletics programs, and is reasonable and appropriate to expect.
January 16th, 2024 at 11:30 PM ^
Idk....maybe...

Interview everywhere - and pick the best job. Hope and pray that is Michigan. Either way- we are national champs and we have a loaded roster next year.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:11 PM ^
^^ THIS^^
January 16th, 2024 at 10:14 PM ^
We have a loaded defense.
January 16th, 2024 at 10:17 PM ^
Yes, the D is a big part of our loaded roster - as are offensive studs such as Loveland, Dono, and Mullings. Not to mention talented O lineman who have been in the program 3+ years.
January 16th, 2024 at 11:31 PM ^
You don’t know whether they’re talented until they play.
January 17th, 2024 at 12:02 AM ^
great party until you showed up.
