Ghost of Fritz…

Yes, of course.  NIL is about 3 years old.  Landscape is changing.  Just because Michigan won it all with a roster that was built just as the NIL era dawned does not mean the same approach will work over the next three or four years.  Michigan won it all.  They cannot afford to squander the goodwill and recruiting boost by being behind the curve.  Michigan need forward-thinking people and they need to purge the people from the AD that have always been one or two steps behind.

I still think this is the perfect landing spot for Ben Johnson. Their offense is essentially a mirror of the Lions' offense sans the quarterback. But man, Harbaugh with that offense and a decent QB (or even JJ???) Division is pretty bad, Carolina is basically 2 free wins per year and the Saints have the worst offensive scheme I've ever seen in pro football (What's that, Derek Carr just completed 4 passes in a row? Let's take him out of the game for the next 3 plays to watch Taysom Hill run the wildcat!) Tampa is better than anyone expected (I'm a bit nervous for the Lions game Sunday..) but I think if Harbaugh goes to Atlanta he should definitely make the playoffs every year...

Please stop, we are over a week removed from the best season in Michigans 144 year history, and we witnessed it. I’m more than sure Harbaugh never intended to leave Michigan in shambles. He has groomed Moore

This whole thing is starting to remind me of the guy I dated in my early 20's: he had one eye on me and the other eye on the door to see what new opportunities were walking through it.

Isn’t it funny how this thing has come full circle? Remember when JH was hired—it seemed like weeks of speculation, rumors and insiders (like JUB) claiming to know what JH was thinking and what was going on behind the scenes.  Now he may exit the exact same way.

Harbaugh is like the lover who's just had fantastic sex with Michigan, but instead of enjoying a langorous post-coital cigarette, he's busy texting trying to hook up with other potential partners while hurriedly getting dressed.

JH is trying to get jobs with teams he never mentioned on his list. He may interview with New England and other vacancies. Looks like one of these teams will  hire him. I guess the accomplished his mission at Michigan and won us a NC. Now it's off to the NFL.

If Jim leaves for the nfl, then good for him, can't wait to watch him win the superbowl. If Warde let's him leave for the NFL then he should be fired. You have the greatest coach in the country in your house. Stop fucking around with nickels and dimes, and keep the greatest coach in the country in your house.

Falcons job is the better one, much closer to winning a division and beyond than the Chargers. Great running game, 2  good tight ends, decent defense. Insert just a competent QB and they win division. Chargers have Herbert and a frequently hurt Bosa and a bunch of aging high priced veterans. Good chance that Ekeler and Keenan Allen  aren't even on the team next season.

I think the Washington job is better too.

On the other hand, Jim's wife is from California.

Just reading the comments here I think there’s a huge number of Michigan fans that are still suffering from the ghost of BPONE. Even when things at Michigan football are great, these fans can’t help but to grab at every negative thing that comes along, and attempt to turn it into the worst thing in the world, as if it’s some personal affront against them.

Given what Harbaugh gave in to to keep coaching Michigan after the 2020 season, and given what he has had to endure from the NCAA and b1g (and to some extent Michigan itself) since then from two separate investigations, I say Harbaugh has earned the right to speak to whoever he wants about his coaching future. I also say he has earned the right to make certain demands about any contract that would keep him at Michigan.

People want to compare this to the dating scene where Harbaugh is the one at fault for looking for the next best thing to come along, but maybe, just maybe, it isn’t him that is the only one at fault. Maybe he’s not the only one “looking around” for the next best thing. Maybe he’s only “looking around” because after a disastrous year in the relationship (2020) he swallowed his pride and bettered himself, started making better choices and became a stable part of the relationship only to have the other party start acting sketchy and wanting to have the option to dump their partner if things become difficult again. If Harbaugh doesn’t feel as if Michigan is truly in his corner and supporting him, even after humbling himself and making himself better, including taking his partner on the best vacation they’ve had in a long time, can you blame Harbaugh for not feeling loved and appreciated and starting to look around again?

Not a bad job, really. I live here in Atlanta and most of the pieces to win are already here. They're just a flipping disaster at QB, but that can be fixed with the draft, and if they had competent play at QB they probably would've run away with the division. Kyle Pitts could probably have a rebirth in his career with Harbaugh as his coach, and Bijan would be the great proverbial "bell-cow" RB that Harbaugh wants. Good options at receiver, too.

I wouldn't say its a Super Bowl contending roster that is "just a QB away," but its a roster that is more than capable of making the playoffs with good QB play.

Its also an incredibly weak division, compared to going to the AFC West where you'll be dealing with Mahomes for another decade, anyway. Carolina is rebuilding, mortaged its future for Bryce Young and so far that looks like it hasn't panned out. Tampa overachieved this year and has some great pieces, but probably isn't too far away from blowing up the roster and starting over. Guys like Mike Evans, Devin White, Lavonte David and Chris Godwin could and in all likelihood will walk in the offseason, and New Orleans has the oldest roster in the NFL.

Whoever takes that Atlanta job? Just get a good QB and that division is yours.

I think Jim may have offers but hasn't accepted any because it needs to be on his terms.  He's already done this dance once in SF and if he goes back he will want to do things differently and to have more power to where owners and GMs are probably not comfortable with it.

Thats just my 2 cents.

Well, you gotta let coach be coach. He wants to be at Michigan, he wants to win a Superbowl, he wants a happy family, and he wants to be embraced by his tribe wherever he is. So he's just going to look around and choose whatever option offers the best version of his next few years. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to figure it out.

-500 to Chargers on this site  https://www.betonline.ag/sportsbook/futures-and-props/nfl-regular-season/coaches

Draftkings has it at -150 https://sportsbook.draftkings.com/leagues/football/nfl?category=head-coaches

I don't much about sports betting but my guess is these markets are really illiquid and have wide spreads but still seems notable even if that is not the true line.

Still basking in the glory of the Rose Bowl and Natty.

If Jim goes, thank you sir, statue to come soon.

If Jim stays, lets run it back!

Either way...M is winning right now.

Love the guy for what he did as a player in the mid-80s (I was a SR when he led us to 10-1-1 as a JR QB). Loved the 40-3 run, with three wins over 3rd base, 3 B1G titles, and 15-0.

He's definitely changed since the 2020 post-season and the contract drama (no NFL team was even interested it seems three years ago). He used to claim "jive turkeys" were spreading rumors about his going to the NFL. I truly believe he was locked in at UM. The turmoil of 2020 was enough to change even the most stout-hearted guy. He made all the right moves with the staff after that season. But the Minnesota debacle, eating burger and fries in his hotel room after not being offered the job on the spot and then telling Warde this wouldn't be a recurring theme, only to shop around again.

I wish this man great happiness but believe he will find escaping the NCAA and B1G leadership will someday be replaced by brain-numbing head games between him and his GM and/or owner. There must be a lot of 2nd guessing in the NFL ranks - they love what JH can bring in quick success but somehow aren't ready to pull the trigger immediately. My understanding is that LAC had already met the revised Rooney Rule requirements and could have offered JH that day.

Just be happy he brought us three wonderful years and left this program far better off than anyone has since Bo handed the reins to Mo. He's never stayed anywhere for more than four until here. The future in the NFL is guys like McVay, Dan Campbell, Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, etc. He and Bill B. will get some love by an owner who thinks he has it all but a HC to win big.

It'll be interesting to see what happens; won't be a catastrophe if he goes, won't mean automatic championships if he stays. Granfalloonery aside, his life choices don't directly affect most of our lives in a meaningful way. It affects him, it affects his family, coaches and players.

For me, the biggest hint is that we aren't seeing a mass exodus for the portal. The players say they know what the plan is. That might be an indicator.
