That seems like nonsense. This is a young coach, it seems he hasn’t particularly made up his mind where he wants to be long term. An offer wasn’t unreasonable.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:41 PM ^
Pedantic arguments on the definition of NFL Guy are why I visit this board.
You seem to believe NFL Guy has specific length of tenure in the NFL coaching ranks that exceeds two years. What is your cutoff?
February 15th, 2024 at 7:44 PM ^
Clinkscale is the one guy we lost who won’t be much of a loss. He’s a solid coach and a solid recruiter, but if a Michigan level school can’t replace that, they’ve got the wrong guy in charge
February 15th, 2024 at 5:43 PM ^
Go. After. College. Coaches. Please. And. Thank. You.
February 15th, 2024 at 5:45 PM ^
Well you are going to be disappointed because Michigan is a minor league coaching feeder system for 3 nfl franchises.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:02 PM ^
And?? They can't hire college coaches??
February 15th, 2024 at 6:02 PM ^
We got that Harbaugh guy from the NFL. And MacDonald.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:42 PM ^
Fun fact: college coaches will also go to the NFL at the drop of a hat if offered
February 15th, 2024 at 5:55 PM ^
LOLOLOL. You can’t make this up anymore. Shit is way too funny. Only Michigan
February 15th, 2024 at 9:00 PM ^
TBF I don't think we're the only team that lost a coach after they'd accepted a job.
Maybe we're the only one that lost one back to their original job, but even then maybe not.
February 15th, 2024 at 11:55 PM ^
Sure, but how many teams can say that some positions coaches are coming back only to have the rug pulled underneath from them? Or telling the players they’re staying then leaving? It’s just comical at this point.
February 15th, 2024 at 5:56 PM ^
It's okay. I couldn't pronounce his name anyway.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:49 PM ^
This will help you.
In English, Stephen is most commonly pronounced as STEEV-ən (/ˈstiːvən/), However, the spelling pronunciation STEEF-ən (/ˈstiːfən/), although nonstandard, with ph representing /f/, is usual especially in Philippine English. The name, in both the forms Stephen and Steven, is often shortened to Steve or Stevie.

This did not deserve a downvote
February 15th, 2024 at 5:57 PM ^
Might as well reach out to Charles Woodson.
February 15th, 2024 at 7:46 PM ^
That sounds like a terrible idea.
February 15th, 2024 at 10:20 PM ^
Username checks out
February 15th, 2024 at 5:58 PM ^
Morgan seems like just as good of an option with more experience. All good and can't blame a guy for staying in the NFL if it's even close to comparable money.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:03 PM ^
Adegoke could be a DC at Michigan in a few ........ and he's gone.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:10 PM ^
They probably should’ve just given him Co-DC from the jump and paired him with a co-pilot to coach CBs. If all the hype was really real, it’s kinda frustrating that they couldn’t manage an offer that fully sealed the deal.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:28 PM ^
He's got hot feet moving up the ranks. I'm assuming he's on the short list for DC in the NFL already, didn't need a lateral to college with all the recruiting effort. In my day it was a BAD look to accept a job & then backout - but now it's all the rage!
February 16th, 2024 at 1:10 AM ^
It's all the rage these days...swipe right, swipe left.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:07 PM ^
*sighs in maize and blue*
It’ll probably all work out. But this only reinforces the narrative that what Sherrone has assembled is largely a “plan B” coaching staff.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:23 PM ^
Rubbish. Every coaching staff is riddled with plan Bs then
February 15th, 2024 at 6:31 PM ^
Not saying I completely disagree, but Minter was plan B and he worked out great. Jim chose MacDonald over Minter first go around.
February 15th, 2024 at 7:22 PM ^
I get what you’re saying. But Jim also had the benefit of being an accomplished head coach who was coming off a BIG championship season and a CFP appearance. That part of my comment was less about hope for the future and more about narratives currently circling and impeding the momentum of the program.
Like I said, it’ll probably all work out. But thus far, the transition process has reflected somewhat poorly on the program.
February 15th, 2024 at 10:00 PM ^
I believe Jim chose Mo Linguist first before he left to Buffalo. Then he got MacDonald.
February 15th, 2024 at 7:38 PM ^
Alabama is going with Nick Sheridan as their OC and OSU settled in Chip Kelly. Lots of staffs have "B" guys, and I'd argue Morgan and Adegoke were 1A and 1B.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:10 PM ^
I just assume now when things get leaked someone is using the job as leverage to get a raise.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:16 PM ^
F@cking Admissions
February 15th, 2024 at 7:16 PM ^
Richard Evil wins the thread.....
February 15th, 2024 at 6:16 PM ^
I'm sure the line will once again be that it "wasn't about the money" when in all likelihood it was def about the money.
February 15th, 2024 at 7:35 PM ^
He accepted the offer for the money that was offered, so either he's a terrible negotiator or an NFL franchise was willing to outspend a college team for a position coach, which yeah sort of makes sense. Clearly Ryans and the Texans came back with the type of offer that UM probably couldn't match, whether it be a promise of a fast tract to coordinator or way more money than UM can reasonably pay for a position coach.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:16 PM ^
Fucking insane lmfao
February 15th, 2024 at 6:21 PM ^
Here is the question I have for all these coaches: why are you ACCEPTING jobs you are not a 100% sure you want to take? What happened to "Let me get a day to think this over?"
February 15th, 2024 at 6:37 PM ^
Yeah. It's one thing to tell the prospective job and your current job that you're considering an offer. It's another thing entirely to state your intentions (either way) then renege within 48 hours. I get that it's ultimately business but it's still a bad look.
February 15th, 2024 at 7:33 PM ^
Yeah, the fact these guys are accepting offers (and in the case of a guy like Grubbs at Alabama actually serving as a coach) and then peacing out later is shitty. Also, it's why I don't get remotely worked up about NIL "ruining college sports" because coaches have been pulling this stuff for years.
February 15th, 2024 at 7:59 PM ^
I think some of these guys are using Michigan to extract better offers from places they’d rather work at anyhow.
At this point I won’t believe Moore has actually hired anybody till they’re at a presser announcing their hire.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:41 PM ^
Thanks Warde.

As close as we were to getting the Notre Dame guy or as close as we were to retaining Clink? Or more like as close as we were to getting Harbaugh a new contract back in November?
-5
So more like the Notre Dame guy. Got it. We are a unique program when it comes to acquiring/retaining coaches you at least gotta admit that.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:52 PM ^
According to Sam Webb
LOL
February 15th, 2024 at 7:41 PM ^
Sam was right, he accepted the job. He literally said on the round table that their head coach had just found out about the offer after he accepted it. Of course there was going to be a counter.
February 15th, 2024 at 6:59 PM ^
I think either would be fine, but when I first read about them on 247 Morgan stood out to me as a 'better' option.
February 15th, 2024 at 7:20 PM ^
It's a better long term fit imo..could be our future DCord and Minter likes him..give me that guy

Outbid again...JFC Warde, you saved 5.5M fuckin dollars signing Moore rather than Harbaugh. Overpay a couple guys!

Has Scruggs' ship made it across Lake Michigan yet? Hopefully the ice isn't causing issues, and we get him here before the spring.
