JJ to announce decision tomorrow.

Sounds to me like he is going pro. Would have already announced if he were staying. Go be great, JJ. May he end up in Detroit.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:32 PM ^
Agree that means he’s probably gone. Thanks for everything, JJ!
January 13th, 2024 at 8:40 PM ^
Unless he wanted to keep today's celebration focused on Team 144.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:42 PM ^
From Tony Garcia of Detroit Free Press:
“Just spoke with Cornelius Johnson, who tells me he does not know what J.J. McCarthy’s future decision will be, but he does have a guess.
“I mean if he was coming back, I think he would’ve said it just now, right?”
January 13th, 2024 at 10:09 PM ^
Have the same thoughts. If he were returning, tonight would have been the perfect time to say so. If he were leaving, why break the news tonight and rain on the parade?
January 13th, 2024 at 11:47 PM ^
Also, if he was still undecided he would probably wait until he knew what Jim was going to do before making his decision.
Of course, he might know what Jim is going to do. (That would not be good.)
January 14th, 2024 at 12:25 AM ^
It comes down to development, doesn't it? Where would he improve more, playing another year of college or getting practice and exhibition game reps as a pro, being a pro QB's understudy?
I don't have the answer to that question. Klatt's opinion is that he should play another year of college. I like that answer.
January 14th, 2024 at 12:55 AM ^
Klatt’s right. I don’t think McCarthy’s ready to step in as an immediate NFL starter because at this point, he’s like a pitcher who only throws fastballs. He needs to develop some touch. Watching Stroud today made that even more obvious. I think he’d have a better chance of rounding himself out playing in college than sitting in the NFL, and I think it would best for his NFL career if he hit the league with as much college experience as possible, especially given how much less often Michigan throws the ball than the schools where the other top QBs played. We’ll see.
January 14th, 2024 at 10:27 AM ^
I believe the deadline to declare for the NFL draft is January 15.
January 14th, 2024 at 8:54 AM ^
Always a team player would not want attention on him instead of the team
January 13th, 2024 at 8:43 PM ^
I was hoping we could keep at least one of them…Harbaugh or JJ. Fingers crossed.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:45 PM ^
Love JJ but I'll take the one who's allowed to be here for more than one more year if I have to choose.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:25 PM ^
Would love to see Harbaugh at Michigan, winning until he retires.
January 14th, 2024 at 12:42 AM ^
Do you think JJ leaving means Harbaugh is leaving?
January 13th, 2024 at 11:05 PM ^
I believe the "Tell" is on his T-shirt... BUSINESS IS FINISHED.
GO BLUE!
January 13th, 2024 at 8:34 PM ^
I think it means he's announcing tomorrow.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:11 PM ^
Yup. But apparently a bunch of us are announcing, for him, tonight.
Let the man have his own announcement.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:34 PM ^
Yep, definitely gone. Thanks for everything, JJ!
January 13th, 2024 at 9:31 PM ^
Nice thought JHum, but it looks like a "No" from your fellow Mgousers...🤷♂️
January 13th, 2024 at 8:36 PM ^
Yeah, my guess is he would have announced it at the event today if not earlier if he wanted to stay. It would have made everyone go nuts.
Wish him the best.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:37 PM ^
Unless he wanted to keep the focus on the team instead of himself
January 13th, 2024 at 8:40 PM ^
Hope you're right!
January 13th, 2024 at 8:38 PM ^
Not necessarily. He was the first one to speak and him announcing he was coming back would have overshadowed every other player to speak. But, I agree it probably means he’s gone.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:36 PM ^
Yeah, if the decision was the announce if he was staying, then tonight would have been the perfect place to do it. At the end of the ceremony, "Oh yeah, by the way, I'll be coming back for my final year." It coming tomorrow means a tweet of "I loved my time here, but it's time for me to move on."
January 13th, 2024 at 10:17 PM ^
I disagree here. Mentioning it at ceremony makes it about him in a sense. I think he's staying. He's a hero here and defending title while being paid NFL .money is far more attractive than sitting on bench for some bad NFL team the first year.
January 14th, 2024 at 10:13 AM ^
I think that’s a beautiful case of self-defense, similar to how I said that OSU was going to beat Michigan the week of the game.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:37 PM ^
I'm going to have to go through all the stages of grief. But in the end, we are going to embrace a new era of M football. The last one ended at the pinnacle! May the next one get there soon.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:38 PM ^
Today was about Team 144. JJ isn't going take the attention away from the celebration of the team by announcing anything.
(73% chance this is just me in denial)
January 13th, 2024 at 8:41 PM ^
Players have until Jan 15 to declare but can withdraw by Feb 2.
With a whirlwind week and Harbaugh still pending, he has no risk to declare now and withdraw later.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:41 PM ^
Time for the Orgi era.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:43 PM ^
I'm here for the Orji.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:51 PM ^
Lol oh my what a terrible misspelling. I’m leaving it.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:43 PM ^
JJ is going to announce what Jim Harbaugh is going to do !!
January 13th, 2024 at 8:54 PM ^
Harbaugh will be drafting me 5th overall for the Chargers
January 13th, 2024 at 8:43 PM ^
Tony Garcia of Freep: “Just spoke with Cornelius Johnson, who tells me he does not know what J.J. McCarthy’s future decision will be, but he does have a guess.
“I mean if he was coming back, I think he would’ve said it just now, right?”
January 13th, 2024 at 8:45 PM ^
Damn, you don't make a big announcement to stay home.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:47 PM ^
Huh? Plenty of guys have done that.
I'm not saying he's staying, but plenty of guys have made a big deal about staying.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:51 PM ^
We literally saw this like eight times last year. People are damn fools.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:33 PM ^
Emphasis on literally.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:46 PM ^
I would take JJ to NFL and,
Harbaugh to remain at Michigan.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:56 PM ^
This is probably how it will play out.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:46 PM ^
he gone
January 13th, 2024 at 8:46 PM ^
Why does it mean he's gone?
It's 2024. It takes a couple of days to put together the "I'm back" videos for social media.
January 13th, 2024 at 8:50 PM ^
If J.J. goes to the NFL, I wish him all the best. That said, I think another season at Michigan would improve his draft prospects. Maybe not.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:08 PM ^
He's looking at a WR core of Morgan, Morris and Loveland next year.
That's... Not great. Unlikely to produce better with that and the general offensive philosophy/passing game shortcomings. Take the late 1st round/early 2nd round pick when you can get it.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:27 PM ^
The WR this year was not great. Wilson is at best a 4th rounder and CoJo is a late round/UDFA type.
January 13th, 2024 at 9:50 PM ^
"The WR this year were not great"
Lists two future NFL players.
Lol the wr corps weren't 2019 Bama, but we can't say they weren't talented at the top
January 13th, 2024 at 10:22 PM ^
You can't win a national championship if Roman Wilson is your #1 receiver.
Oh wait.
January 13th, 2024 at 11:00 PM ^
That doesn’t mean they were great receivers. MSU had Keon Coleman and Jayden Reed both of whom are better players than Roman or CoJo.
January 14th, 2024 at 7:57 AM ^
What point are you trying to make? Our WR room wasn't #1 in the country? I think everyone knows that.
Most teams don't have multiple future NFL players lining up as pass catching targets. JJ has had that every year he's been here.
