Baker said he did not know what those penalties might be or when they would arrive. He said the NCAA infractions team is working on finding ways to move faster with its process. In the sign-stealing case, Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti had to employ a controversial interpretation of the league's sportsmanship policy to levy any punishment during the season in which alleged violation occurred.

"We do have a series of discussions going on with the infractions folks about whether or not we can't do something to speed up the pace of our investigations," Baker said. "Certainly in a case like this, we'd like to be able to move a lot more quickly."

Baker said he hopes the investigation will pick up speed now that the season is over and the Michigan coaching staff will be more readily available to speak to investigators.

If Harbaugh does return to the professional level, Baker said he was not sure how that would impact the NCAA's potential sanctions of Michigan or whether they would work with the NFL to try to hold him accountable in some way.

Yeah, that would go over well. I'm sure any NFL team would love to hear the NCAA tell them what to do.

LMAO - does anyone think any NFL owner or GM give a damn about what Baker and the NCAA think?

The NCAA could say - we think this coach should be suspended for five years and provide a show cause for the rest of his career.   And, the NFL would say - “Thanks, we’ll take your perspective under advisement - and ask him not to have dessert after his dinner tonight.”

They're still investigating the rule violation. His comments are just saying, yeah, Michigan didn't need Stalions to win any of those games, clearly. Hopefully they take that into consideration when doling out punishment.

What still doesn't make sense to me is why he's like, "Well obviously we need to hurry the fuck up and not follow any of our protocols in order to wrap this up ASAP." Why? I get that argument for why they told the Big Ten in the middle of the season, even though they usually don't. But now that the threat is gone, why is it important that the investigation go faster? I mean, they should always go faster. But if it was okay to drag out the UNC and Kansas and LSU stuff, how is this different?

I believe the hidden message is “Sorry Ohio State fans.  We literally threw everything we had at them and they still won.  They earned that $&@!”

That is interesting because the BIG commissioner said we were cheating and suspended our head coach for the most important stretch of the regular season jeopardizing our quest for the national championship that we won fair and square. When is that asshat going to resign?

I'd say our Chicken farmer is having a pretty good year so far! That is good because he can't leave or the chickens will all die (sorry, paraphrasing Stripes reference that I love).

As Bob Seger would say, “I was reading in an ‘NCAA’ magazine today where they said Michigan has the best team in football team and deserved the title fair and square. I thought to myself, shit, I’ve known that all season.”

This is a major story. Not to us fans, alums, and mgobloggers. We knew this was a nothing burger from the start. But this is major in the sense now all the haters can choke on this. Hopefully this tampers down their BS but I doubt it.

Oh fuck you. You're saying this now, because the media doesn't have your back anymore, and people are realizing what a screw job this was.

Please tell us more about how the coordinated leaks were actually for our own good.

That’s not really what Baker thinks but he can’t risk denying what 55 million people saw over the last two weeks with their own eyes. So he had to say this.

Baker and the NCAA‘s true intentions were laid bare by the new rules changes the are proposing for suspensions and show-causes related to level 1 and 2 violations. They want Harbaugh out and they don’t want him back. These rules proposals are really a shot again Michigan’s bow warning of the consequences if we err again.

I started a recent OP on this with more details and links to the article.

"At the end of the day, no one believes at this point that Michigan didn't win the national title fair and square."

That's good. He is saying the participants in 11W and RCMB are "no one."

Hoo boy are the RCMBers unhinged.  I mean, I don't really blame them given the vast and bottomless chasm that exists between our programs.  But still, that level of bitterness is almost impressive.

Typical Michigan State forum post. I just took the latest one from RCMB

you can say they were the best, but the truth is we just don't know. That's the shame when a program cheats at that level. You can't tell if those kids are as good as they look, and you can't trust any of the results

Michigan' just beat Penn State, Maryland, Ohio State, Iowa, Alabama, and Washington and Michigan is rated number 1 in every power rating that matters.  But this guy is still on the fence. Those signs against East Carolina and Minnesota were real game changers I guess.

The average sports fan should be turned in Soylent Green.

So many at 11W clinging to the wording of "at the end of the year" as if it implies that only the year end games are legit.

I could be wrong, but in context it seems idiomatic. Like "at the end of the day," or "when all's said and done," which actually suggests "on the whole." Really flimsy wording to stake your hopes on.

We all knew it was overblown, we all knew other teams were accusing us of doing the same damn things they do.  It was a hit job intended to derail a team they knew they couldn't beat again.
