You lose a lot of players and don't have a lot of 4 star+ recruits on the bench so it is back to building things back up. Combine that with a tough schedule and it isn't a recipe for a 10-2 season. Could it happen? Sure. Anything can happen. 7 to 8 wins is far more reasonable expectation.

Honestly, the computer rankings are mostly what I look at outside of playoff games. It is why all the Harbaugh hate was ridiculous after 2019. The fans should never be listened to under any circumstance for any hiring and firing decision. The expectation for next year should be low for any coach after this year. This is how things work. You lose a lot of players and don't have a lot of 4 star+ recruits on the bench so it is back to building things back up. Combine that with a tough schedule and it isn't a recipe for a 10-2 season. Could it happen? Sure. Anything can happen. 7 to 8 wins is far more reasonable expectation.
The average fan is a moron. Ryan Day has been to the playoffs three times. A field goal away from a national championship last year and a scoop and score overturned a few years prior. He is a top five coach. I hate to disappoint you. The odds of Michigan getting someone as good as Day are not great.
Are the terms fair? If I am Harbaugh I want it in writing I won't get fired for a show cause.
Cheering doesn't mean anything. That isn't showing the love. It takes no courage to cheer a coach that won a national championship. Feeling the love is not wanting a guy fired or grumbling after a 4 loss season which are inevitable. Fans and the administration already failed that test miserably. If I him and committing to Michigan, I am not going to put myself in a position where the university has an escape hatch if things get bumpy.

Harbaugh.isnt an idiot. He knows people will turn on you instantly. Clemson fans are complaining about Dabo. They could play football for the next 900 years and not have someone as successful as him. I am pretty sure he wants to get paid if Michigan tries to get rid of him again.
Could be. Seems far more likely he wants Michigan to litigate if he faces NCAA punishment and wants contractual assurances that the school won't turn around and fire him for cause.
Everything is roses right now. Let's say they have an 7 win season in a couple of years and Harbaugh gets a severe punishment from the NCAA. He doesn't want to end up like certain other coaches whose universities used scandals as an excuse to get out their contractual obligations because they weren't winning.
Will Johnson just said he knows Harbaugh's and JJ's plans. That seems like a strong implication Harbaugh told the team he plans to be back given that no NFL team is close to signing Harbaugh.

Florida State was probably outside or maybe right on the cut line as a top 10 team even before the Orange Bowl. Besides the teams that got in, I would have put Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon in the playoff over FSU.
Honestly, the computer rankings are mostly what I look at outside of playoff games. It is why all the Harbaugh hate was ridiculous after 2019. Michigan from 2015-2019 was a very very good program and people acted like it was a massive failure, all because they didn't look at computer rankings and overweighted losses to excellent OSU teams and bowl losses.
The 1997 team was 6th in SP+, 4th in Sagarin. and 5th in SRS.
The 2023 team is 1st in SP+, 1st in Sagarin and 1st in SRS.
I know these debates are fun but the answer is obvious based on the numbers. This team is clearly better. The 2022 and 2021 teams were also higher rated than the 1997 team.

Colin had a bad interview with Harbaugh before he joined FOX in around 2014. Has been the biggest Harbaugh supporter of anyone in media since. Was more supportive of Harbaugh than 90% of Michigan fans from 2015-2020. Nothing has changed with him toward Harbaugh. A lot has changed among fans toward Harbaugh since then.
Vacating wins has been used exclusively for playing ineligible players. There would be no precedent in NCAA history for vacating wins over a rule that has been enforced exactly once with Baylor assistant who got a half game suspension.
I had to Google what RCMB was. The level of delusion is off the charts. I have never seen anything like it. Besides how fever brained the posts are, I think the most amusing part is how much they care about Michigan and little the average Michigan fan cares about MSU. They are like the fourth most important rivalry behind OSU, PSU, and Notre Dame.

Go back and read mgoblog threads from 2019, 2020, and 2021 before OSU. The guy finished 3rd in the Heisman and played on one of Michigan's best teams ever and then pulled the football program out of a burning building as coach. Harbaugh has vastly exceeded anything Carr or Moeller or post 1980 Bo has done. He can do whatever he wants as far as I am concerned. He's earned it. If he wants to spit in the mouth of complaining fans like you, I would love to see it.
I don't think most people grasp how historically great this Michigan team and in particular the defense.
Sport Reference SRS has Michigan solidly number 1. It is the best Michigan team since the 1973 team. Sport Reference shows a similar gap between Michigan and Alabama as ESPN SP+.

My instinct is the university was fighting so hard with the expectation of Harbaugh staying. Because if he stayed on, they wouldn't want him suspended in the future and also it is a show of support.
I really really really hope I am wrong but this feels like everyone has weighed their options and it is the last year for Jim.
The power rankings have to spread closer to Mich being a small favorite. There is a pretty big deviation between Sagarin, ESPN FPI and Vegas.
Michigan is the best team in the country. That said Michigan is only around 20-30% to win out from here. Winning football games is hard against good opponents. In a rational world Michigan could be able to lose one of these games and still be a lock for the playoffs.
Fans and pundits seem to have not taken a probability and statistics class in college. I feel like there will be a huge letdown if Michigan loses a game even though that should be the expectation because that is what the math says will likely happen. It isn't negative thinking or doubting. It is just how the math works out based on the schedule.
This is likely a way for the commissioner to appease the hyenas. He's a Harvard Law School grad. He knows that there isn't enough public evidence for this kind of action. I think most legal people think thiswill get an injunction.
