Moody made two of the five…

Moody made two of the five longest field goals in Super Bowl history and set an record for consecutive extra points made in a season.  Seems like those are notable facts left from his bio.

Setting everything else you…

Setting everything else you said aside,  what is it you think Chris Partidge did? Go ahead. I want you to write out what you think he did that was so awful And whatever it is you think he did, you think it was a fireable offense? Because I don''t. https://www.freep.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/wolverines/2023/12/13/michigan-football-assistant-coach-chris-partridge-fired-termination-letter/71911322007/

The university did fire Chris Partridge. And they may have been within their rights. But that doesn't mean what they did was morally right. They offered him as a sacrifice to make it appear they were taking this whole investigation very seriously.

Big annoyance is labeling…

Big annoyance is labeling stuff like this OT. Ben Mason is a Michigan Man. So is Harbaugh, Ben Herbert and Minter. If a former Michigan fullback plays for arguably the greatest living Wolverine, that seems very on topic.

The whole exchange is…

The whole exchange is ridiculous. How would Michigan have cheated?  How would that even work? Cheated in what way? Were all the Michigan players driving Dodge Chargers to the game?  https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/why-do-so-many-alabama-crimson-tide-football-players-drive-nice-cars

I just noticed this weekend…

I just noticed this weekend when I was watching the draft and seeing Twitter reactions the OSU and MSU Twitter replies are STILL endlessly babbling about "cheating".  Seems like running the table to end the season would have ended this, but nope.  Endless conspiracy theories from how cheating is the reason guys like Mike Sainristil got drafted as high as he did to PED use. There is HUGE contingent of people who think Michigan beat OSU this year by cheating. They even think scouting the  MSU-Washington two years ago was difference in the National Championship.  It's Crazyville on MSU and OSU Twitter. It's a toxic combination of low IQ and unearned confidence in their views.

There is a reason he was one…

There is a reason he was one of the last people drafted.  He has great athleticism. But he's a  horrific route runner. Below average hands. I hope he does well and carves out a niche. 50/50 that he makes the roster. Hope he does though.

But to back it up, here is what the Chargers put out for his draft. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ld_oSdaiYaw  Starts at 47 seconds/

I used to ridicule people…

I used to ridicule people who put Jack ahead of Tiger. I thought it was just old people wanting to cling to the past. But in hindsight, Jack is the greatest. Tiger had a steep dropoff after 2008 from where he was. Whereas if you look at a Jack's career, he was metronome into his early to mid 40s. And he was still pretty darn good through his late 50s.  Runner up at the US Open in 1960. 6th at the Masters in 1998. Tiger would have to contend in the year 2035 at a major to have similar longevity.

I think the players are much…

I think the players are much better especially in the middle and back of the pack, but there are a lot fewer individuals. Very few guys like Elkington, Fuzzy, Payne, etc. The guys are very forumulaic in everything.

One thing I always notice is how much less articulate and confident players are now. Tiger and Phil are so much more poised than almost any current player. Compare the way Jack, Hale Irwin, and Ray Floyd speak to Justin Thomas or Speith or McIlory or Koepka and Dustin Johnson.  Maybe I am old and biased but I don't think so. Even watching clips of Jack give victory speeches when he was 30, I am startled at how much more mature he is than guys now./end of rant.

 and even Calipari (who is…

and even Calipari (who is also a borderline HOF-type coach)

John Calipari is one of the greatest coaches in the history of the sport. He got into the Hall of Fame in 2015. Safe to say he is as inner circle, first ballot, no doubt as it gets.

"He's made 2 title games in…

"He's made 2 title games in his career and had long stretches where he'd make one long run to, say, the final four surrounded by a bunch of early exits"

"He's a solid coach but it's weird he gets talked about with names like Coach K, Roy Williams, Bill Self, Calipari, etc."

I mean.. He's been to 8 final fours.  That seems notable.

Tubby Smith has been to one…

Tubby Smith has been to one Final Four. Fisher has been to three. Izzo has been to eight.

There is plenty to criticize Izzo for so there is no need to diminish his coaching record to criticize. It is what Ohio State people do with Harbaugh and it is never not ridiculous when I see it.  Michigan fans shouldn't do it with Izzo.

It wasn't that long ago he…

It wasn't that long ago he went to the Sweet 16 or better 7 times in 8 years.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Izzo

Besides the fact that I don't care about Michigan State and don't even see them as a rival to Michigan, I will never understand acting like all time great coaches are mediocre. It is retarded when Ohio State fans do it with Harbaugh. It makes no sense to do with Izzo.

Not sure what most of t that…

I don't think I have ever used the words cancel culture, CRT or woke in my life.   But as far as socialism, if you don't think socialism is wrong then you are as evil as a Nazi.  Socialism and fascism are one for one moral equivalents. This should not be controversial in 2024.

Britain is one of the freest countries in the world. Britain is the cause of roughly zero percent of the worlds problems and has done more good and spread ideas that lifted more people of horrific poverty than any country in the world if you count the influence they had on the US.

But of course you are using words like "equity" and given your downvote, the likelihood of you having a worthless major and purple hair is very high.

He said in a interview he is giving the chickens away to a person who holds the record for owning the longest living chicken.  I think it was an interview with a local Los Angeles reporter on the day of the Chargers press conference if you really want to find it on Youtube.

The level of disrespect Wink…

The level of disrespect Wink Martindale gets is unreal.  He is an above average NFL DC who got NFL  head coach interviews the last few years. He created the defense Michigan had run the last few years. Acting like he is a random old guy or a worse hire than Clink or Elston is serious brain injury logic.

Wink Martindale was the best hire imaginable and here  here solely because of Harbaugh.

A+ home run hire. This would…

A+ home run hire. This would have been Harbaugh's hire in LA if he couldn't have gotten Minter or Fangio.  Not sure if the occasional internet complaint about him being Don Brown or citing random one year samples of his NFL defense ranks is trolling or stupidity. But he is definitely one of the better NFL DCs over the last decade. And will bring continuity (maybe short term) from the previous defense.

Losing coaches is part of…

Losing coaches is part of the job. These are Harbaugh's staff, not Michigan's.

I can't even remotely relate to someone who thinks a strength and conditioning coach voluntarily leaving is some dirty move by Harbaugh.  The people complaining about this are softer than baby shit.

It is 2024. No need to keep …

It is 2024. No need to keep  randomly mentioning Eric Bienemy as a potential head coach. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a job in marginal situation at some point but he isn't a top prospect.

win a few titles

be…

win a few titles

be the new saban

Just stick around and win a few titles and have a Nick Saban like run?  Oh that's it?

I don't know how to break this to you. There has been one Nick Saban in the history of the sport. Michigan has a much smaller pool of recruits than a Southern school or even Ohio State. And even that guy couldn't win at Michigan State. Your expectations are why I am bolting instantly if I am Harbaugh. 10-3 is hard to do especially with a tougher conference. Michigan won a title  with a composite talent group  based on high school rankings that has been done exactly zero other times. This was a unique set of circumstances with a great group and a great coaching job.

My hope (and I would be thrilled) is if Harbaugh comes back Michigan will be similar to 2015-2019 in an average year with the OCCASSIONAL year like  2021-2023.  That would be a massive win. And it is actually doable, not easily I might add. But doable.

I don't much about sports betting but my guess is these markets are really illiquid and have wide spreads but still seems notable even if that is not the true line.

Simple. He wins and is…

Simple. He wins and is almost impossible to replace. He took all the arrows from fans and admin and now he feels quite comfortable doing whatever he wants. And there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it.

I was actually surprised at…

I was actually surprised at how balanced the comments were. A plurality were not completely ridiculous.  But of course there were plenty of the same comments you STILL here now.

Call me old fashioned, but I like my HC to not be interviewing on National Signing Day. Let’s get him out of here. Thanks for this last year, enjoy Kirk Cousins.

The second he lands in Minnesota Warde needs to inform him the University is moving on from him and pay him his low buyout. Announce Harbaugh is persuing NFL opportunities and Michigan will be looking for a new HC.

Here is a big brain energy from salvadorquattro

1-5, 3-4, and 1-5. He hasn’t been the coach we thought we were getting. He has been good, but not great.

Let’s stop pretending he has been a huge success here because he hasn’t. If he leaves he is leaving behind h program stronger than he found it. That is true. But he also leaves a legacy of spotty performances. Can UM do worse? Sure. But they can also do better.

Sorry but Jim has brought this on himself with all his nonsense about how he would do this job for free, and NO-body has it better than us, etc etc.   A huge part of his appeal to the fanbase was his passion for Michigan and all of his ties to the area.   If its just another job to him then he is just another coach who can be easily replaced. It won’t be too difficult to find someone else who can beat OSU once in 7 years and lose almost every other big game we play.

Time to let Jimmy go

Time to let Jimmy go

Letting the coach go,  who just had the best three year stretch in school history,  is a very rational response. Maybe you should be AD. I look forward to more of your galaxy brain management decisions.  The main criteria should obviously be someone who cherishes being at Michigan. Brady Hoke is back on the market. What do you think AD?

He could build 2008-2019…

He could build 2008-2019 Alabama like momentum / dynasty if he wanted to, with multiple national championships, and he is walking away from it.

Yeah because apparently  building an Alabama level dynasty which has been done exactly once in the history of the sport is super easy. Just as easy as waking up and doing in your brain.

What Michigan has done has been replicated exactly zero times in the last 25 years. Michigan has the 14th best talent composite. That is lowest since the beginning of the recruiting sites that rate high school prospects. It took a great culture and a lot of veterans to win and great coordinators. That isn't something you replicate year after year. Alabama and Georgia have won because they have the best rosters every year. Michigan won with amazing coaching.

Here was a thread after…

Here was a thread after Michigan went 10-3 and were one game from the playoff. https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/fire-harbaugh-1  That was still a very minority view at the point but was percolating. A lot of talk radio guys and Michael Spath had lots of mush brained takes.

Then there was the psychoanalyzing the next year because people couldn't comprehend that completely changing the offense after listening to fans isn't so  easy.  Turns out speed in space isn't a sure winner and has nothing to do with whatever is Harbaugh's brain.  https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/what-happened-jim-harbaugh

Then there was full on meltdown stage. https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/if-you-think-jim-harbaugh-should-be-our-head-coach-you-are-part-problem

And then came the Matt Campbell stage of free basing airplane glue https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/matt-campbell-fire-we-need-harbaugh-has-lost

The fans should never be listened to under any circumstance for any hiring and firing decision. The expectation for next year should be low for any coach after this year. This is how things work. You lose a lot of players and don't have a lot of 4 star+ recruits on the bench so it is back to building things back up. Combine that with a tough schedule and it isn't a recipe for a 10-2 season. Could it happen? Sure. Anything can happen. 7 to 8 wins is far more reasonable expectation.

The average fan is a moron. …

The average fan is a moron.  Ryan Day has been to the playoffs three times. A field goal away from a national championship last year and a scoop and score overturned a few years prior. He is a top five coach. I hate to disappoint you. The odds of Michigan getting someone as good as Day are not great.

The reported terms are more…

The reported terms are more than fair,

Are the terms fair? If I am Harbaugh I want it in writing I won't get fired for a show cause.

Cheering doesn't mean anything. That isn't showing the love. It takes no courage to cheer a coach that won a national championship. Feeling the love is not wanting a guy fired or grumbling after a 4 loss season which are inevitable. Fans and the administration already failed  that test miserably. If I him and committing to Michigan, I am not going to put myself in a position where the university has an escape hatch if things get bumpy.

For starters don't paint …

For starters don't paint "Fire Harbaugh" on his way to work after winning 10 games three of first years after one bad loss.

Clapping hard a few days after the team finishes the best three year stretch ever isn't exactly a bold move.

Harbaugh.isnt an idiot. He knows people will turn on you instantly. Clemson fans are complaining about Dabo. They could play football for the next 900 years and not have someone as successful as him. I am pretty sure he wants to get paid if Michigan tries to get rid of him again.

Could be. Seems far more…

Could be. Seems far more likely he wants Michigan to litigate if he faces NCAA punishment and wants contractual  assurances that the school won't turn around and fire him for cause.

Everything is roses right now.  Let's say they have an 7 win season in a couple of years and Harbaugh gets a severe punishment from the NCAA. He doesn't want to end up like certain other coaches whose universities used scandals as an excuse to get out their contractual obligations because they weren't winning.

Will Johnson just said he…

Will Johnson just said he knows Harbaugh's and JJ's plans. That seems like a strong implication Harbaugh told the team he plans to be back given that no NFL team is close to signing Harbaugh.

I am pretty surprised. I know there was the SC comment about moving spting practice too. I short assumed the Chargers would be the obvious move.

Typical Michigan State forum…

Typical Michigan State forum post. I just took the latest one from RCMB

you can say they were the best, but the truth is we just don't know. That's the shame when a program cheats at that level. You can't tell if those kids are as good as they look, and you can't trust any of the results

Michigan' just beat Penn State, Maryland, Ohio State, Iowa, Alabama, and Washington and Michigan is rated number 1 in every power rating that matters.  But this guy is still on the fence. Those signs against East Carolina and Minnesota were real game changers I guess.

The average sports fan should be turned in Soylent Green.

Pretty good intuition on…

Pretty good intuition on everything. Both teams were the number 1 rated defense according to Sport Reference. The 1997 team had the number 1 defense by a huge margin whereas the 2023 team was only marginally ahead of OSU this year. though absolute rankings between 1997 and 2023 defenses are close.  But the 1997 team had the 32nd rated offense just ahead of Kent State. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/1997-ratings.html   The 2023 team had the 11th best offense. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2023-ratings.html

I am not a particularly huge…

It is pretty oily that a guy like this would share a detail like this but here you go. Kind of a clue on Jim's future. I noticed no one at all picked up on this but given the religious underpinnings of everything Jim does, wouldn't be surprised if Harbaugh has a connection to this guy.  https://twitter.com/RickWarren/status/1744745006588678585

Florida State was probably…

Florida State was probably outside or maybe right on the cut line as a top 10 team even before the Orange Bowl. Besides the teams that got in,  I would have put Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon in the playoff over FSU.

Honestly, the computer…

Honestly, the computer rankings are mostly what I look at outside of playoff games. It is why all the Harbaugh hate was ridiculous after 2019.  Michigan from 2015-2019 was a very very good program and people acted like it was a massive failure, all because they didn't look at computer rankings and  overweighted losses to excellent OSU teams and bowl losses.

The 1997 team was 6th in SP+…

The 1997 team was 6th in SP+, 4th in Sagarin. and 5th in SRS.

The 2023 team is 1st in SP+, 1st in Sagarin and 1st in SRS.

I know these debates are fun but the answer is obvious based on the numbers. This team is clearly better. The 2022 and 2021 teams were also higher rated than the 1997 team.

Also as a random aside, the 1985 team was number 1 in SP+ and SRS  https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/1985-ratings.html

Colin had a bad interview…

Colin had a bad interview with Harbaugh before he joined FOX in around 2014. Has been the biggest Harbaugh supporter of anyone in media since. Was more supportive of Harbaugh than 90% of Michigan fans from 2015-2020. Nothing has changed with him toward Harbaugh. A lot has changed among fans toward Harbaugh since then.

Vacating wins has been used…

Vacating wins has been used exclusively for playing ineligible players.  There would be no precedent in NCAA history for vacating wins over a rule that has been enforced exactly once with Baylor assistant who got a half game suspension.

I had to Google what RCMB…

I had to Google what RCMB was. The level of delusion is off the charts. I have never seen anything like it.  Besides how fever brained the posts are, I think the most amusing part is how much they care about Michigan and little the average Michigan fan cares about MSU. They are like the fourth most important rivalry behind OSU, PSU, and Notre Dame.

Could you imagine telling…

Could you imagine telling your significant other, who has done literally everything, that you’re only with them until something better comes along?

That is the dumbest of the dumb analogies that people use every year. A job is not a spouse. You aren't fucking your job. It is a job. Assistant coaches interview all the time for head coaching jobs. Nobody says they are cheating on spouse doing it. People understand assistant coach is a stepping stone. College football is minor league football.  Considering major league football jobs is not wrong in any way.

And even more laughable is your acting like Harbaugh owes the university or the fans anything. The university and fans were some of the most disloyal people on the planet. Go back and read mgoblog threads from 2019, 2020, and 2021 before OSU. The guy finished 3rd in the Heisman and played on one of Michigan's best teams ever and then pulled the football program out of a burning building as coach.  Harbaugh has vastly exceeded anything Carr or Moeller or post 1980 Bo has done.  He can do whatever he wants as far as I am concerned. He's earned it. If he wants to spit in the mouth of complaining fans like you, I would love to see it.

I don't think most people…

I don't think most people grasp how historically great this Michigan team and in particular the defense.

Sport Reference SRS has Michigan solidly number 1.  It is the best Michigan team since the 1973 team.  Sport Reference shows a similar gap between Michigan and Alabama as ESPN SP+.

lhttps://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/years/2023-ratings.html

The sports talk pundits do a terrible job using data to analyze how good a team.

My instinct is the…

My instinct is the university was fighting so hard with the expectation of Harbaugh staying. Because if he stayed on, they wouldn't want him suspended in the future and also it is a show of support.

I really really really hope I am wrong but this feels like everyone has weighed their options and it is the last year for Jim.

The power rankings have to…

The power rankings have to spread closer to Mich being a small favorite. There is a pretty big deviation between Sagarin, ESPN FPI and Vegas.

Michigan is the best team in the country. That said  Michigan is only around 20-30% to win out from here.  Winning football games is hard against good opponents. In a rational world Michigan could be able to lose one of these games and still be a lock for the playoffs.

Fans and pundits seem to have not taken a probability and statistics class in college. I feel like there will be a huge letdown if Michigan loses a game even though that should be the expectation because that is what the math says will likely happen. It isn't negative thinking or doubting. It is just how the math works out based on the schedule.

This is likely a way for the…

This is likely a way for the commissioner to appease the hyenas. He's a Harvard Law School grad. He knows that there isn't enough public evidence for this kind of action. I think most legal people think thiswill get an injunction.
