Miami trending to flip another top rated osu recruit. RB Jordan Lyle
Wiltfong recently changed his crystal balls from osu to Miami (ytm). That’s a pretty big loss. Not like they don’t have other backs in the class but you hate to see it happen.
as an aside, who is funding Miami?

...for 7 figures.
December 16th, 2023 at 1:16 AM ^
Does it matter? He will play for a team that wins 5-8 games a year, and OSU loses out on talented recruits. It's a win win for everyone except Miami and OSU.
December 16th, 2023 at 7:52 AM ^
I'm convinced Cristobal will get Miami to an annual 10-2/9-3 team just like the Oregon fans kept saying.
Good enough that the talent will win him games, but the coaching will prevent them from ever being great.
The thing is now, 10-2 is a CFP team. 9-3 might even sneak in as a 11 or 12 seed.
The ACC is weak. Drake Maye is leaving UNC, Elko has left Duke and Clemson is sliding.
There is an easy opportunity to get 9 wins if you're Miami and have more talent than everyone else.
It's just like how I don't care how many players OSU loses to the NFL or the fact that ol Third Base can't develop talent. They're not going to be worse than 9-3 in the B1G.
Miami won 5 in Year 1, 7 this year... I'll bet they get to 9 and that is just about the ceiling.
December 16th, 2023 at 8:00 AM ^
9-3 at OSU will get you fired. Ask Earl Bruce.
December 16th, 2023 at 8:15 AM ^
Ehhh...Bruce went 9-3 six years in a row but didn't get fired until he had a "disastrous" 6-4-1 season. OSU and its fans used to be a LOT more tolerant of good but not great records. Obviously, they wouldn't accept 9-3 for more than a year or two now.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:24 AM ^
And then John Cooper arrived in Colombus.
Really enjoyed JC’s tenure…

This Third Base Day era is starting off swimmingly!! #HAIL〽️
December 16th, 2023 at 9:03 AM ^
Hey, I didn't say he would keep his job.
I just said with the talent they have, 9-3 is their floor unless there is some kind of scandal something that knocks them back to earth recruiting wise.
Pre-Urbz, their floor wasn't nearly that high. A poorly coached OSU team could go 6-6.
But if you're always finishing in the top 3 in the recruiting rankings...that's a 9 win team.
Miami doesn't have to finish top 3 in the recruiting rankings because the ACC isn't as strong as a conference. But there is no reason Cristobal can't get that thing to "lose one non-conference game, lose to Clemson, lose to FSU" levels of 9-3.
Although Cristobal is more likely to beat one of those 3 teams and lose to Georgia Tech because he refuses to take a knee. And that's his 9-3.
December 16th, 2023 at 9:58 AM ^
If OSU does not have a good QB, I can see them 4 or 5 games if they lose against all potential good teams. In any given year, UM, PSU, Washington, Oregon and USC will not be a cakewalk. Heck Wisconsin or even MSU can knock them off. Given, they won't play all of those teams every year but I don't think 3 is the floor for them any longer.
December 16th, 2023 at 11:23 AM ^
Only played 11 regular season games back then, so he was always known as 8-3 Earle. On the other hand, Frank Solich was Mr. 9-3 at Nebraska.
December 16th, 2023 at 9:35 AM ^
The ACC won’t exist soon.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:42 AM ^
He won 7 games this year using the portal and NIL to a huge advantage. He had the talent, but didn't get much out of it. He coached Oregon when the PAC 10/12 really didn't have many good teams and still lost a couple games a year.
December 16th, 2023 at 7:42 AM ^
I’m pretty sure some of these kids just flat out don’t care about college football as much as is fans do.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:00 AM ^
To be fair, I probably cared more about money than CFB when I was 18. Still do.
December 16th, 2023 at 12:27 PM ^
Well I didn't then & still don't now!
Which probably explains why I'll never retire...🤷♂️
December 16th, 2023 at 12:32 AM ^
Miami's Director of Recruiting had a simple, yet effective message.
December 16th, 2023 at 12:42 AM ^
If this is real, the fact that Ohio State is such a target for players at their high end is an indictment in itself.
I mean we know they are a program of mercenaries, but the younguns don't always see that.
December 16th, 2023 at 7:15 AM ^
Very much agree. I think these events are making it even clearer that their long run of highly rated classes had a lot to do with $.
December 16th, 2023 at 8:47 AM ^
Head on over to 11W and you will see that tOSU is in fact the squeakiest clean program on earth and the reason they aren't getting some of their top targets is because they won't pay recruits........ uh huh.

It’s still Ruiz funding them right? Guy is loaded. Been trying to build an on campus stadium too - hope that works out, bc college football needs the U

Always funny. At one point it might have been satire, but lately it is merely reality.
December 16th, 2023 at 2:50 AM ^
But does it? "Need" it!?
I have been enjoying the past 20 years of "the U" irrelevance immensely. It could go on awhile longer, I'd be ok with it.
They are good at hoops tho!
December 16th, 2023 at 5:47 AM ^
CFB categorically does not need Miami. They are not Michigan, they're not Texas, they're not Alabama or OSU or Notre Dame. They're not a blue blood in any sense. They're just a nostalgia kick for those who came of age when they were relevant.
December 16th, 2023 at 6:22 AM ^
I live in FL. Lots of Canes fans still around. They're not even arrogant anymore. I take great enjoyment in Miami being a mediocre football team, but you just sort of feel sorry for their fans now. Just look at how they lost to Georgia Tech - LOL.
I also don't think they will ever be relevant again. They play their games at Hard Rock that is quite a drive from campus. It's a sterile environment with a shit ton of empty seats for their games. Miami can't offer the college experience that their competition can.
December 16th, 2023 at 7:59 AM ^
Why do I feel sorry for Miami fans, again? Did they feel sorry for me when Rich Rod and Hoke were winning ga... well, coaching?
December 16th, 2023 at 8:31 AM ^
Agreed. Wife and I were in Miami on vacation, and saw Miami vs Clemson was playing in town with really cheap lower bowl seats. Why not go?
Result: Big stadium with mostly empty upper deck, tons of loud pipped in noise and RAWK, and aside from the crazy overtime, the football was pretty wretched. Nice to have seen it, but it so pales by comparison to most game day experiences. They did seem to know how to tailgate in the 305, however. Dale.
December 16th, 2023 at 9:53 AM ^
Yeah but when they hit the scene they were fantastic. First game I attended in big house was when they came back and beat us in 4tr after being down like 24 in the 3rd. Will never forget the giant hurricane warning flag waving in the corner. They are good to have.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:05 AM ^
Guilty as charged. The Hurricanes were a phenomenon when I was growing up. The games against The Boz and against ND were bigger than anything you see scheduled today. It was the golden era of college football.
December 16th, 2023 at 11:55 AM ^
Agree with this. From 1986-1993, roughly, the Hurricanes were the coolest thing going. They're indirectly responsible for my Michigan fandom.
Their 2001 team remains the most talented in college football history IMO.
Those days are gone, but damn they were impressive.
December 16th, 2023 at 8:03 AM ^
Hard disagree. What about Miami makes you want more of that in CFB?
Also, pretty sure Ruiz is in serious financial trouble.
December 16th, 2023 at 1:09 AM ^
Hopefully FSU flips Jeremiah Smith from them, too.
Wonder what the chances of Georgia flipping Air Noland from OSU are if they lose Raiola?
December 16th, 2023 at 2:55 AM ^
Just putting the thought out there into the world so bucknuts can fume & fret is really a win already, no matter what occurs in the end.
There's 2 ways bucknuts can hate "Air" -
1. He bolts for more $ elsewhere -or-
2. He sticks with osu but doesn't beat Michigan
Whereas there's only 1 path to them loving him...
December 16th, 2023 at 4:37 AM ^
That path is blocked by Kenneth Grant, sorry!
December 16th, 2023 at 11:16 AM ^
Were you thinking of Justin Scott?
Kenneth Grant has elite speed but he’s too valuable on the DL to be CB2 next year.
