Perfect captains!
August 24th, 2023 at 10:40 AM ^
Agreed! On multiple levels. All guys who made a decision to come back for another year and chase that championship!
August 24th, 2023 at 11:28 AM ^
"Those who stay will be captains!"
August 24th, 2023 at 3:15 PM ^
"Those who stay will be chaplains!!!" -Unofficial Hillsdale College motto
August 24th, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
Or… chaplains…
August 24th, 2023 at 4:42 PM ^
Thanks for the help.
I self-banish myself to Lake Champalain.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:32 AM ^
And make that sacrifice for the team, the team, the team.
Go Blue!
August 24th, 2023 at 2:50 PM ^
NIL too.
August 24th, 2023 at 10:57 AM ^
I agree. I think they fit the team perfectly.
August 24th, 2023 at 7:15 PM ^
All the guys who stayed are now Captains
August 24th, 2023 at 10:39 AM ^
star studded group. Wish JJ was one of them but tough to beat out this group of seniors
August 24th, 2023 at 10:48 AM ^
JJ can get that next year when he returns.
August 24th, 2023 at 2:01 PM ^
Agreed.
A brilliant strategy to dangle the carrot of captaincy next year as an inducement to get McCarthy and Edwards to return for 2024.
(Joking...but hoping it works anyway.)
August 24th, 2023 at 11:17 AM ^
Juniors not eligible according to 247
August 24th, 2023 at 12:44 PM ^
Devin Bush was a captain as a junior in 2018
August 24th, 2023 at 1:06 PM ^
It was implied it was a this year thing, not a rule thats been in place forever.
August 24th, 2023 at 7:03 PM ^
I wonder if this new rule had anything to do with 2 captains quitting on their teammates and transferring mid-season last year. I'm sure Harbaugh wanted to minimize any chance of that bullshit happening again, and I can't blame him. This looks like the last year of college football for all of these captains, and I can't imagine any of them pulling that crap.
August 24th, 2023 at 10:40 AM ^
Tough team to get that title on.... So many worthy but we picked six of the best! LFG!
August 24th, 2023 at 10:44 AM ^
All dudes that could have gone to the NFL last year but came back
August 24th, 2023 at 10:59 AM ^
Now that's leadership.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:40 AM ^
And that’s not including the 2-3 team captains we procured in the portal. Every position group has leadership candidates.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:57 AM ^
I actually think we added 4 captains from the portal. Henderson, Nugent, Wallace, and Barner.
August 24th, 2023 at 2:05 PM ^
Jack Tuttle was a captain in 2022 at IU as well as Barner.
August 24th, 2023 at 1:58 PM ^
Say whatever you want about NIL, but it can/does give kids a motivation to come back instead of leaving early for the league. Can think of several guys that were late round or undrafted free agents that could have come back for another year had this opportunity been in place.
August 24th, 2023 at 10:44 AM ^
Congrats to the 6. Sit down for no one!
August 24th, 2023 at 10:46 AM ^
Oh oh, we have three 3-stars as our defensive captains? OSU is going to make sooo much fun of us...
August 24th, 2023 at 10:57 AM ^
Whoa.. I don’t know what to say. This is such an illustration of everything that’s wrong with Michigan football. (Yes, a degree of sarcasm.)
Three star prospects. All they do is.. buckle down.. train hard… attend class and do well.. bust their behinds in off season S&C - listen to their position coaches - develop - guide younger players on the roster - support each other - adjust and execute - and make a difference on Saturdays.
Other teams can brag about their talent level… this squad is fantastic.
Congratulations to each and every one of the captains - as well as every player on the roster.
I wouldn’t change a thing.
Go Blue!
August 24th, 2023 at 1:03 PM ^
Don't forget the beat OSU part
August 25th, 2023 at 10:56 AM ^
And 2 captains from MA, of all places, to boot.
August 24th, 2023 at 10:50 AM ^
Surprised JJ didn’t get the nod. He’s become a very vocal leader and is obviously the QB. Can’t argue with any of the choices though.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:05 AM ^
I just don't get a leader vibe from him. Might be a personal thing from me, but I still see a youthful, exuberant young lad in JJ. Not a seasoned leader of men. That's not to say he can't become one some day. I just don't think he's got the maturity that a leader needs to have yet.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:32 AM ^
JJ seems very mature to me. I can't think of one thing he's said or done that indicates immaturity.
August 24th, 2023 at 2:05 PM ^
JJ grabbing whoever he did vs OSU after his thundering QB run pulling them away from possible trouble showed me a lot about where his head is especially in the biggest moment of their season to have the composure to do that is exactly what I want in my QB!
August 24th, 2023 at 12:09 PM ^
- bad take
August 24th, 2023 at 11:09 AM ^
I think Harbaugh preaches that his captains be seniors for the most part, so the team voted as such. I think JJ is already a “captain” and the team knows it. This isn’t a shea patterson deal
August 24th, 2023 at 11:14 AM ^
Why? They chose 6 seniors, so it looked as if the team wanted to honor them for the time and work they put in. However I bet at 2pm on 97.1 this will be spinner as a negative for McCarthy.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:18 AM ^
According to 247, only seniors were eligible
August 24th, 2023 at 10:53 AM ^
The fact that they're all (lead by example) veterans says a lot, not to mention being chosen by your peers. That speaks to the teams identity. I'm thinking more and more this will be the year, as long as JJ stays healthy and opponents can't pick on CB2, we're rock solid.
August 24th, 2023 at 10:54 AM ^
My favorite part of this graphic is the poses. I want to be in the meeting* that settled on this graphic.
"Alright, we've got six captains; three on offense and three on defense. I guess that means we need a 3 x 2 photo layout. But we can't just use basic headshots. We need something dynamic."
"How about two different poses. We'll have our star running back, eternal warrior, and all around defensive terror stare away from the camera it an ambiguous the middle distance, while the offensive linemen and hero of the Horseshoe give us a saucy over-the-shoulder look."
"That's gold, Jerry, gold! Send it to print!"
*I know, I know, the most likely explanation is that a social media intern pumped this out based on a list
August 24th, 2023 at 10:54 AM ^
If you just read media reports and tried to glean who the LEADERS on this team are, you'd come up with most, if not all, of the six captains.
Great choices, every one of them.
August 24th, 2023 at 3:32 PM ^
My wife told me to guess and I got 5/6. Had JJ instead of Zinter
August 24th, 2023 at 5:11 PM ^
Marry that woma....oh, you already did.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:04 AM ^
(2) OLinemen and a DLinemen.....now that is Michigan Football.
"I'm busting! Jerry, I'm busting!"
August 24th, 2023 at 11:07 AM ^
They earned it on the field and in the locker room.
Great effort and leading by example.
Congratulations to them.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:08 AM ^
Has Mikey Sainristil been a Captain before? I can't remember.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:12 AM ^
Yeah he was a captain last year too
August 24th, 2023 at 11:12 AM ^
Is anyone else unreasonably annoyed that the graphic put Zinter (RG) on the left and Keegan (LG) on the right?
August 24th, 2023 at 11:17 AM ^
Not from the perspective of the rb.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:19 AM ^
How the hell did they overlook this? How the hell did I overlook this?
Unless we're looking at them from the perspective of the defense. Then they'd be in exactly the right position.
August 24th, 2023 at 11:24 AM ^
The LG is only on the left when you are looking at the back of his head. Since we see their faces, he's on the right.
