I’m just glad that apparently none of the media or coaches voters watched our game. Because I don’t think a #2 rank is warranted the way we played yesterday.
Actually, let me amend: giving up a total of 6 points after the offense coughed up the ball all those times MAY warrant a #2 rank. Our defense has been legit SHUTDOWN
September 17th, 2023 at 2:12 PM ^
Only team that played well yesterday was Washington.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:25 PM ^
Washington is the one that is being overlooked right now by everyone. They’ve played better than Michigan, FSU, Ohio St and others so far this year.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:46 PM ^
Many of the Pac12 teams are being overlooked. Except the Buffs of course. Utah, Oregon, and Washington could all be higher. Utah beat a Florida team that just embarrassed Tennessee.
Pac12 has 8 ranked teams.
September 17th, 2023 at 5:12 PM ^
Utah Utes are always overlooked and this year is no different.
They won the Pac12 the previous two years despite not being picked to win it.
Their coach has been there forever and has consistently delivered good to great teams every year.
They are top 15 in returning production this year.
Cam Rising hasn’t played a snap and is expected back soon.
September 17th, 2023 at 6:39 PM ^
The difference is Michigan was playing a bad mac team starting a third-string walkon that had never played before. Georgia was playing an SEC team.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:28 PM ^
Many teams "underperformed" this week. FSU-BC was closer than most expected. Bama-USF, same thing. Georgia-COCKS, ditto.
Not saying BGSU is anywhere close to USF or ntUSC, but it happens.
And eye test wise, UW has looked good. But they've beaten Boise, who is 0-2 vs FBS schools, and MSU which....
I think they're legit. Great QB, 2 great receivers. But like Colorado, I wanna see what happens when they face an opponent with a pulse.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:48 PM ^
8 ranked Pac12 teams are all going to start beating up on each other. It’s anyone’s guess but I’ll take Utah to 3 peat.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:31 PM ^
Or they watched a lot of games yesterday and saw a lot of ranked teams struggle.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:49 PM ^
I guess you didnt watch any other games the Michigan
September 17th, 2023 at 2:52 PM ^
The sign of a good team is they play like shit and still blow out the other team.

your lips to God's ears

your lips to God's ears
September 17th, 2023 at 4:23 PM ^
The Michigan defense was on the field for 36:13 (TOP for BGSU). BGSU ran 57 plays vs only 44 for Michigan. The rush defense has to be among the best in CFB and only gave up 81 yds despite all of those plays.
I'll take a 31-6 ugly victory and call it good. Michigan deserves it's #2 ranking. GA Bulldogs were also unspectacular yesterday.
September 17th, 2023 at 6:28 PM ^
Yup. Style points mean a whole lot more during the first 1/3 of the season.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:13 PM ^
Meh. Makes sense to me- its too early for the rankings to really matter anyway, and our game was far from the only mismatched game where the higher-ranked team farfed around and had some flukey events to deal with. It happens.
Farfed. I think I just made that up, but I think it fits.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:15 PM ^
Also Alabama -3 and Colorado -1 for bad wins in the AP poll
September 17th, 2023 at 2:52 PM ^
And Travis Hunter is out a "few weeks." Not sure if that factored in.
September 17th, 2023 at 4:54 PM ^
If not for a two minute end of game 8 point run w/o Hunter, they were going to lose to a team that was a 21 point underdog. So I don’t think Hunter’s injury had anything to do with it.
Bama struggled in South Florida but wasn’t ever likely to lose.
Edit: Summary, the CU drop in the rankings is due to their being lucky to beat a 21 point underdog in overtime.
September 17th, 2023 at 6:29 PM ^
I meant their drop in the rankings, not the outcome.
September 17th, 2023 at 10:56 PM ^
They were a 24 point underdog.
September 18th, 2023 at 12:08 AM ^
Bama definitely looked like they could lose. It was Georgia who won more comfortably.
September 18th, 2023 at 1:47 PM ^
I thought state was dirty. Csu out did them this week.
September 17th, 2023 at 6:45 PM ^
Alabama jettisoned from the top 10 for the 1st time in 8 years.
Tommy Rees is already in trouble.
September 17th, 2023 at 9:29 PM ^
Plus Buchner? The Irish are invading Tuscaloosa...
September 17th, 2023 at 2:17 PM ^
Bring on Rutgers, who had an impressive win over Virginia Tech yesterday. and is also 3 & 0. Will be a test. Think Michigan will be ready to play their best game so far. Glad to see UNLV beat Vanderbilt yesterday.
September 17th, 2023 at 3:01 PM ^
VT is booty cheeks, but Rutgers is a real team.
September 17th, 2023 at 6:58 PM ^
Eh. Rutgers offense is terrible. Defense is good, but offensively I don’t see Rutgers being able to move the ball consistently against Michigan.
September 17th, 2023 at 8:19 PM ^
A lot will depend on which secondary players actually play this week. We need Johnson and Moore back on the field. If nothing else, all these other players have now added depth
September 18th, 2023 at 6:50 AM ^
Pretty sure we beat rutgers every time with all 22 offensive and defensive starters out.
September 17th, 2023 at 8:34 PM ^
Rutgers got prematurely conservative after half-time. When it became obvious they needed to score again, they did on command. I think they will score 21 against us. My hope is UM scores 45.
September 17th, 2023 at 11:18 PM ^
What’s tricky about this game is to what extent U-M will involve McCarthy.
If U-M leans on the run (which stands to reason after the 3-INT BG game) and doesn’t activate McCarthy on QB keeps, that could make for a lot of 1-yard runs, since Rutgers’ defensive posture is aggressive.
September 18th, 2023 at 5:00 AM ^
Harbaugh will be back and will settle JJ down. I think we have to remain balanced on Offense, so JJ will have to continue throwing to make the opposition pay for stacked boxes.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:19 PM ^
If you look at the scores only, then our game didn’t really stand out good or bad.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:26 PM ^
Didn't get passed in part because Florida State struggled with Boston College and Texas with Wyoming. But, anyway, whatever. Bring on games that mean something.
September 17th, 2023 at 2:33 PM ^
WtF AP with Texas to #3? Trailing or tied with Wyoming (!) most of the game, and your marquis win vs Alabama sees the latter look completely meh vs USF trailing 0-3 and tied 3-3 more than half of game? Just smdh, but also lmao that #3 should probably have been tOFU (that flavorless soft mush of a team in Ohi), so on second thought, you do you, AP
September 17th, 2023 at 2:55 PM ^
They will play Notre Dame in the “We’re Back” Bowl
September 17th, 2023 at 3:17 PM ^
Alabama might not be the as good as the usual Saban Bama teams but that's a better win then most teams in the Top 10 have.
September 17th, 2023 at 8:20 PM ^
Name Michigans best win..
Now do Texas
September 17th, 2023 at 2:36 PM ^
The media is making it way too obvious that they want Texas in the CFP
September 17th, 2023 at 4:04 PM ^
It's week 3, the media boys need storylines, and Texas has a huge fanbase.
I think we're supposed to say something like "wake me up when September ends."
September 17th, 2023 at 8:43 PM ^
I mean they went into Alabama and won pretty handily. Maybe they should be 4 or 5 but I don’t really think it’s some giant media conspiracy.
September 17th, 2023 at 3:03 PM ^
Where is Sparty ranked? I don’t see them…
September 17th, 2023 at 3:13 PM ^
From what I understand they are going to be lucky to field a team by November. I don’t think most understand how ugly things are going to get in EL. I have never really thought it would be that bad before but I don’t like a night game there this year, particularly with beer. They stopped serving last night.
That fan base is going to be raging-pissed in 3 weeks and that could be an ugly scene.
September 17th, 2023 at 4:16 PM ^
I think it’s as likely that they have given up in three weeks, but yeah, night game up there is not something to look forward to under the best of circumstances.
September 17th, 2023 at 4:19 PM ^
The best case scenario in three weeks is a half empty stadium-MSU is so bad their fans don't even show up for the game.
September 17th, 2023 at 5:32 PM ^
And sell a bunch of tickets to UM fans so the stadium is 40% Maize and Blue.
September 17th, 2023 at 6:41 PM ^
They'll still show up for this one. In 2016, they had lost 5 straight when we came to town and they still packed the place.
September 17th, 2023 at 5:43 PM ^
I think it will be fine. Or no worse than usual. They know what’s coming and I think by then a good majority of their fans won’t expect a win against Michigan. I think they would be happy to keep it competitive. A lose with dignity type of game.
September 17th, 2023 at 3:05 PM ^
Entire top-4 looked uninspiring yesterday. Georgia sludgefarted it’s way through the first half, FSU was lucky to leave BC with a win, Texas definitely showed at least a first half Bama hangover, and we all saw what happened with Michigan.
