i was about to write a comment about how i can't see the lions taking sainristil bc they have an awesome nickel already but i realized that i don't know enough about nfl defensive philosophy to know how redundant a second nickelback is. if the other team puts 4 WR on the field, you need to have a guy to cover the 4th guy. especially with the shape of the division (awesome passing offenses in chicago/gb/minnesota) the lions bpaing mikey (if that makes football sense) would be pretty awesome. still think there's a couple dozen teams that are supposed to take him earlier than we are though.

Game felt like 2022 UM vs OSU. Michigan was aggressively trying to control possession, refusing to bend and hoping to never break catastrophically. I liked the gameplan a lot, throwing pucks at the net is often a recipe for success and Barzo (or any other goalie, really) wasn't gonna be able to hold up against that level of firepower given an average number of chances. The path forward was narrow, BC got the bounces that UM was hoping to get. It is what it is, not upset about it. Making the FF was a bit of an overachievement (though they smashed MSU), and they were playing to win with house money. Great season, can't wait for next year.

everyone played awesome…

everyone played awesome tonight. the overall commitment to team defense was excellent. the fact that a couple of lapses let in a couple goals doesn't distract from the fact that dangerous opportunities were very limited. great gameplan.

two weeks to get healthy and prep for the death star.

Barzo has a habit of sliding…

Barzo has a habit of sliding all over the place out of control in extended scoring opportunities which has gotten him into trouble a lot. Two times in the first five minutes he slid far out of the crease in an overreaction to a second chance which leaves him super open to third chances. Ideally by the third chance your defense has the threat contained but.. that's just not always going to happen. The first goal certainly wasn't his fault, the second goal also wasn't his fault, just a stupid bounce and a great tip from UND. The third goal was a great finish but was the type of scrum type substance I was describing. None of the goals were individually terrible, but they weren't unsaveable either. I wouldn't describe his play as Fantabulous. It was about an average Barzo performance, which meant good enough to win a game against a fringe top 5 team where the bounces went Michigan's way.

I need to give a shoutout to his play at 15:17 in the third period to avoid the deflection off of the back wall which was a far more dangerous play than I'd initially recognized. The save at 0:40 was objectively a big save, and given my complaints about his ability to reposition I'll give a shoutout to the save at 0:21 as well.

I don't want to come across as a total downer, the offense was opportunistic and the defense made some good individual plays to limit chances that I didn't fully appreciate until my rewatch (blocking shots, making contact to take power off a shot, etc). More than anything UM controlled the flow of play in the neutral zone excellently and made Barzo's life easy, imo. There was a lot of good in this game. I just felt like David's recap was more sunshine and rainbows than I'd have written.

I think this Michigan team is good enough to win 3 more games. They probably won't, and that's ok. I'll enjoy the ride regardless.

i just disagree with your points re: goalie and defense. the d played great in the third but i felt they lacked focus in the defensive zone for the first half of the game, and barzo didn't make a big save until there was a minute left to play. at the end of the day there's no complaining about a tournament win but i'll need to rewatch to make sure i saw the same game you did.

defense has been too lax, no look passes that they've gotten punished on, the goal itself showed a lack of urgency. hope it gets turned around.

controlling the puck while…

controlling the puck while someone is giving two handed whacks to your stick is impossible. it's not about player safety, it's just too strong of a defensive tactic.

soccer is king in most other countries where top tier managers would go and is not as big here, they have more resources to outspend us usually i think. i'm not too up on usa soccer's finances but i'd guess that the money cannon for other sides is just as well armed.

other reasons that a top tier manager might want to coach somewhere (high chance of winning a world cup, prestigious role) don't really apply either.

yeah and now the team only

yeah and now the team only had 10 players drafted off the defense last year. and 3 recievers picked in the first 4.1 rounds. and their last starting qb to graduate. nfl talent just doesn't want to come here any more like they used to.

really?

for indiana? in OT?

mccray drafted in the 4th

mccray drafted in the 4th seems optimistic given his deficiency. that i'm disagreeing with this instead of peppers being replaced cleanly surprises myself but the hudson kool aid is strong it seems.

they got pretty lucky to get

they got pretty lucky to get past ok st i feel. beilein's teams do a fantastic job of playing at an athleticism deficit, but at the end of the day the 3 pointer lotto will turn up tails enough times in a game to end a run. they usually win this game, the universe decided that wagner would have an ice cold night.

very fun ride for the past month for sure and i'm grateful that i got to experience it. go blue.

as a dexter alum, our excuse is that we don't particularily care about the football team. the leadership isn't poor, it's just not promoting football.

is the team emenike plays for, not fenerbache.

Important Question

When does basketball season start?

NBA possessions are quite a

NBA possessions are quite a bit shorter than college, 13 college possessions are at least slightly longer than 16 pro possessions. And I'd argue that they're simply better at playing defense without fouling in the NBA, or that deeper benches result in players usually ending up around 3-4 fouls and then coaches pull them to prevent fouling out.
