Will You Be Rooting For Purdue to Win the National Championship?
With Purdue officially in the title game and awaiting the winner of UConn/Alabama, will you be rooting for or against Purdue to win the first NCAAM National Championship for the Big Ten since 2000?
I’ll be rooting against them because I’ll never forgive the big ten for what they did to us and Purdue was one of the ringleaders.
There was one ring leader and it wasn't Purdue
I’m guessing you don’t remember Ryan Walters saying they had evidence of us scouting them and blasting us before the game.
Yup, fuck Purdue.
Disagree. I like Matt Painter. Decent guy, honest (by coaching standards) and a helluva coach. And I pull for them except when they play us.
Funny how Izzo is a jerk who has accomplished little in the past 10 years except skillfully ride a wave of media love. Painter is forgotten. But he’s the best coach in the Big Ten and has been since Beilein left.
May have been when Beilein was here.
Purdue basketball is not football. Yes, the conference is the same and all that, but I'd rather see Purdue when a championship than anyone else in the Final Four this year. Painter is a good person, and a great coach. He wasn't one of the asshats calling for Michigan's head during football season.
Plus, he has raised his players to be modest and supportive of one another. That press conference where Edey came to the rescue of [can't remember the name] when the latter missed a last shot and cost them a game, saying that they lost because he, Edey, didn't have a good enough game to win was a totally class move.
Purdue BB has been my favorite since the tourney started and I'm delighted that they have a chance to win it all. Their football coach and the Big Ten can suck a bag of dicks.
Funny how Izzo is a jerk who has accomplished little in the past 10 years except skillfully ride a wave of media love.
Funny what a national championship and the longest active streak of consecutive tournament appearances will do for you.
That being said, Go Blue! 〽️
Didn’t they lose a play-in game one year? I guess it depends if you call it “First Four” or “play-in game” as to whether that streak continues. And were it not for Izzo’s name, they might not have made it in years like this one. If you are around for 25 years, you are bound to have some good teams, but they often underachieved compared to their recruiting.
I’m guessing you don’t remember Ryan Walters saying they had evidence of us scouting them and blasting us before the game.
I do remember, but participating is not the same as ring leading.
What a completely meaningless distinction.
Screw 'em all.
Ryan Walters shrieked it was a player safety issue like MSU was. Then it comes out that he had UofM's signs and other teams' signs in advance as Illinois's DC in 2022 and Purdue had UofM's signs in advance in 2022 too.
The BigTen is a garbage conference that BSes to get each other.
And Painter has nothing to do with the football program. But part of me wants UConn to win because I realized they are the premier hoops program...won a title every decade, which is impressive.
Fuck naw!
I have several UConn friends and they are fairly annoying. I would prefer they aren't able to chirp. So, anyone but UConn.
Ryan Walters acted like a huge jerk. The handshake after the game was a disgrace.
Definitely not
That's not on Painter, who seems like a good guy.
I didn't care for Ryan Walters, but Matt Painter seems like a good dude and I have nothing against their basketball team. I also like Zach Edey. I also don't need to see UConn win yet another championship.
I win my bracket if they do, so yes
Same here. If UConn wins, my sister steals it out from under me.
UConn getting into the championship alone won it for me, so at this point I have no rooting interest.
Ryan Walters is a disingenuous douche, but I'm not holding that against Painter, and I'm definitely not rolling with the Tide...UConn if it's not the Boilers.
Regardless, May and staff have me looking forward to next year already.
Go Blue, My Friends!!
I dislike Izzo more. So yes.
I’m in the same boat, having a BigTen team win it will finally allow people to stop mentioning St Izzo’s one natty. Anything that pushes that angry little man’s long ago accomplishment into the dustbin of history is welcome to me.
Listening to msu fans laugh at Michigan's 1997 NC "one title in the last 25 years is not a blueblood" for us to now win this year has been so sweet. Using their own words against them.. one NC in a season that started in 1999 does not make you a blueblood. Karma is a bitch. For this reason I will root for Purdue so we can stop hearing about Tom's "magical season".
Oh come on, you think Purdue winning it somehow will impact any of that? As long as Izzo is coaching that won't change.
Yes! Rooting for the B10 over UConn or Alabama
Why.
The Big Ten actively tried to derail quite possibly the greatest season in our 144 year history as a football program, and all these schools gleefully piled on to try to take advantage.
Michigan Vs Everybody, screw Purdue.
I'll be rooting for Michigan to be the team that ends the Big Ten drought.
Next year
Yes. Painter is a good guy. Purdue is a clean program. They have never won a national championship. IU fans are melting down - this run by Purdue is challenging their delusion that IU bball is an elite blue blood program with Purdue as an eternal also-ran.
Mostly agree
that said Indianas historical record is really really good
No doubt that IU was elite in the 70’s and 80’s, but the last 4 decades haven’t been much to talk about.
Well, they made the Final Four in 1992 and national championship game in 2002.
He said not much to talk about, not nothing 😉
I'll buy this. I don't have anything for or against Purdue (they're not Michigan nor one of Michigan's enemies, so ... meh.) But anything that sticks a finger in the eye of IU basketball fans is OK by me. Hated that program ever since Bobby Knight threw his first chair. So, Boiler Up!
Somehow I think IU's 5 national titles will allow them to survive Purdue's first tournament run... ever.
That said I don't care if Painter is a good guy or they have a "clean program" - they can burn along with the rest of the conference.
Anyone who roots for any of these teams after last fall is being willfully ignorant.
No!!!
If I had to pick a conference team, I’m picking Iowa
My son is a senior at Purdue, and Painter seems like a good guy who runs a good program, so yes.
My nephew is a high school junior and just visited Purdue. If he doesn’t get into UofM, Purdue is a really good engineering school. I know 4 Purdue grads and they’re all decent people. My son’s friend went there and marched in their band.
The sins of the Purdue football program should not be held against the basketball team. I will Boiler Up Monday night.
My son loves it. He grew up a Michigan fan, and is a Michigan fan still, unless they are playing Purdue of course, but has very realistic expectations for football. A winning record, with wins over the Illini and Hoosiers, is a season to be very happy with.
Additionally, since we live in the Northeast, out of state tuition was a big part of the calculation, and Purdue is probably the best value in the Big Ten.
No. I'm not one of those pathetic SEC fans that lives through the top teams in the conference as if they were my own. Loser mentality.
I usually appreciate your posts, but this is an odd and aggressive false dichotomy
I'm curious how so, in what way is Purdue winning beneficial for Michigan? Any more so than UConn?
I will be...have a daughter who did her undergrad there-she's a big Purdue basketball fan.
Walters is a liar and hypocrite, but I've always respected Matt Painter.
I can't say that I am 'rooting' for Purdue, but I'd certainly rather see Bama or UConn lose more than Purdue.
