Will You Be Rooting For Purdue to Win the National Championship?

Submitted by FlaWolverine22 on April 6th, 2024 at 9:29 PM

With Purdue officially in the title game and awaiting the winner of UConn/Alabama, will you be rooting for or against Purdue to win the first NCAAM National Championship for the Big Ten since 2000?

I’ll be rooting against them because I’ll never forgive the big ten for what they did to us and Purdue was one of the ringleaders.

Disagree. I like Matt Painter. Decent guy, honest (by coaching standards) and a helluva coach. And I pull for them except when they play us.

Funny how Izzo is a jerk who has accomplished little in the past 10 years except skillfully ride a wave of media love. Painter is forgotten. But he’s the best coach in the Big Ten and has been since Beilein left.

May have been when Beilein was here.

Purdue basketball is not football.  Yes, the conference is the same and all that, but I'd rather see Purdue when a championship than anyone else in the Final Four this year.  Painter is a good person, and a great coach.  He wasn't one of the asshats calling for Michigan's head during football season.

Plus, he has raised his players to be modest and supportive of one another.  That press conference where Edey came to the rescue of [can't remember the name] when the latter missed a last shot and cost them a game, saying that they lost because he, Edey, didn't have a good enough game to win was a totally class move.

Purdue BB has been my favorite since the tourney started and I'm delighted that they have a chance to win it all.  Their football coach and the Big Ten can suck a bag of dicks.

Didn’t they lose a play-in game one year?  I guess it depends if you call it “First Four” or “play-in game” as to whether that streak continues.  And were it not for Izzo’s name, they might not have made it in years like this one.  If you are around for 25 years, you are bound to have some good teams, but they often underachieved compared to their recruiting.

Ryan Walters is a disingenuous douche, but I'm not holding that against Painter, and I'm definitely not rolling with the Tide...UConn if it's not the Boilers.

Regardless, May and staff have me looking forward to next year already.

Listening to msu fans laugh at Michigan's 1997 NC  "one title in the last 25 years is not a blueblood" for us to now win this year has been so sweet. Using their own words against them.. one NC in a season that started in 1999 does not make you a blueblood. Karma is a bitch. For this reason I will root for Purdue so we can stop hearing about Tom's "magical season".

Yes.  Painter is a good guy. Purdue is a clean program. They have never won a national championship. IU fans are melting down - this run by Purdue is challenging their delusion that IU bball is an elite blue blood program with Purdue as an eternal also-ran.

Somehow I think IU's 5 national titles will allow them to survive Purdue's first tournament run... ever.

That said I don't care if Painter is a good guy or they have a "clean program" - they can burn along with the rest of the conference.

Anyone who roots for any of these teams after last fall is being willfully ignorant.

My nephew is a high school junior and just visited Purdue. If he doesn’t get into UofM, Purdue is a really good engineering school. I know 4 Purdue grads and they’re all decent people. My son’s friend went there and marched in their band.

The sins of the Purdue football program should not be held against the basketball team. I will Boiler Up Monday night.

My son loves it.  He grew up a Michigan fan, and is a Michigan fan still, unless they are playing Purdue of course, but has very realistic expectations for football. A winning record, with wins over the Illini and Hoosiers, is a season to be very happy with.

Additionally, since we live in the Northeast, out of state tuition was a big part of the calculation, and Purdue is probably the best value in the Big Ten.

No.  I'm not one of those pathetic SEC fans that lives through the top teams in the conference as if they were my own.  Loser mentality.

Walters is a liar and hypocrite, but I've always respected Matt Painter.

I can't say that I am 'rooting' for Purdue, but I'd certainly rather see Bama or UConn lose more than Purdue.
