Indifferent to manuals. …

Indifferent to manuals.  They suck if you live in a hilly area or have long stop and go commutes.  Sure they’re kind of fun (sort of) if you have relatively flat terrain and minimal traffic. When they completely disappear in new cars, I’ll miss them as much rotary dial phones, 8-track tapes, and VCR’s.

Yeah, I read the Tolkien…

Yeah, I read the Tolkien source materials, but not the 12 volume History.  There's a bit of cognitive dissonance when they play fast and loose with the timeline.  Shouldn't Galadriel find Sauron on Numenor at this time?

I'm trying to let go and suspend my knowledge of the source material.  Episode 3 was pretty good.  Hopefully the rest of the series will be better.

Are they legally allowed to…

Are they legally allowed to do that?  Maybe one of the other wizards?  Radagast?  Blue Wizards?  or Saruman?

Sauron didn't appear as…

Sauron didn't appear as Sauron when he made the rings.  He appeared as Annatar, an envoy from the Valar or something like that.

I've watched up to Episode 3, and it seems to be getting better.  I liked Elrond's visit to Khazad-dum and how Durin was pissed at him because 20 years had gone by and he had missed his friend's wedding and birth of his child.  Because to Elves, who are immortal, 20 years is a blink of an eye.

I don't mind Galadriel as a warrior princess.  But her characterization is a little problematic.  She's the oldest or one of the oldest of Noldorian elves left in Middle-Earth by the Second Age, I believe.  I think she's older than Gil-galad and also a member of elven high royalty.  But the actress that plays her and the script both make her seem like a pissed-off Gen Z low-level elven grunt.  I don't want her being a copy of Cate Blanchett's Galadriel, but it would have been nice if she were a slightly more elegant and mature, radiating more authority, elven princess warrior.

Oh no.  If there's anything wrong with the property, let's say bad foundations with buildings "X" and whatever and maybe yours is OK, they made just tack on a "special assessment" to *everyone* and you're paying for stuff that doesn't even affect you.

You have a parent or an beloved elderly relative that hasn't been vaccinated yet?  Have them go hang out with some younger relative of yours without masks or protective equipment.  Just scoot them in there unprotected and take responsibility for the consequences.

I'd avoid the AstraZeneca…

I'd avoid the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine if there's a choice.  If it's the only one available, you may be stuck.  The data and recommendations for that specific vaccine keep getting "revised".  The clinical trials seem like a mess.

We lost to MSU.  A team we should have beat.  OSU is one thing, beating the teams we should is another.

"Astonishing as it might…

"Astonishing as it might seem, hiring Brady Hoke as our DL coach - if he'd take the job - might help us a lot.  He demonstrated both an eye for talent and the ability to identify/coach up underrated talent."

It's gotten so bad that, as much as I didn't want Hoke to come back in any form after he got fired, I'll agree with this statement.

Disagree, I've lived all…

Disagree, I've lived all over the US and have been on long international trips.  Michigan is pretty well-regarded, especially our graduate and professional schools.  You can probably go pretty much anywhere in the world (pre-Covid that is) and find Michigan alums in some pretty shocking out of the way places and definitely in the major financial and political hubs.  Maybe people on the West Coast don't give a crap about our football or basketball teams, because they have their own homegrown institutions, but when you talk about hiring people, it matters.

If all you're interested is…

If all you're interested is academics, then every institution should go the University of Chicago route.  Like it or not, football and men's basketball is all about money.  The average SAT score for U of M is 1435.  If you take a random sample of scores for football players, do you think that they're even close to this average?

I do think you're right about something though.  The NFL is a wealthy organization.  It should just dispense with the facade and just set up academies for graduating high school seniors to play football, an official minor league.  That would probably weed out a lot of the kids who just want to "play school".

Really?  US News rankings? …

Really?  US News rankings?  Do you see their methodology for ranking these places?  "Student selectivity" is weighted 7%  Graduation rates are double weighted in two separate categories.  It's a joke.

Why is this so important to…

Why is this so important to you?

Yeah... Harvard's endowment…

Yeah... Harvard's endowment is worth $41 billion this year.  Keep drinking that Kool-Aid that endowments are used for students from low-income families.  Or all the employees, ie food services, that they laid off.

Exactly, testing and…

Exactly, testing and resources aren't infinite.  But while healthcare workers in some areas, even if they've been exposed, cannot get free testing and must wait and pay for it out of pocket, some rich millionaire public employees and privileged kids get expedited testing and results just because they are entertainers.  And furthermore, because some of these millionaires are terrible at their jobs and are failing, some are calling for people to pony up and pay them additional millions because they're so god-awful at their jobs.

I'd be OK with people who don't want to wear masks and obey public health restrictions and run around in public because they believe they are infringements on their "personal rights."  But only if they sign waivers or advanced directives stating that they understood the risks and that they're OK if society doesn't have the obligation to go all out to assist them should the need arises.  But no, no one is that brave paragon of rugged individualism that they purport themselves to be.  All these people, they're happy to privatize any gains and socialize all the risks.

Stop it with the "prominent…

Stop it with the "prominent donor" meme.  It's insufferable.  I doubt very much that some rich person or persons is going to come up and plop millions of dollars to buy Harbaugh's contract out unless they get something out of it like the "I Terminated Jim Harbaugh's Employment Chair of Economics|".   You're better off starting a MGoBlog Kickstarter campaign and letting fans donate to that.

Yeah the same stodgy administration that sucked the life out of Beilein while he was here.  That's right, don't hold the coaches accountable for anything.  Just blame the administrators.  Or whatever or whomever else is convenient.

I'm not sure what this myth…

I'm not sure what this myth of the Michigan "money cannon" comes from.  If all limits come off, maybe Michigan has an advantage over some schools but I don't think it'll be as dramatic of a change that a lot of people think it'll be. If the limits come off, it'll come off everywhere.  Some schools have bigger endowments than Michigan, some schools have more billionaire alums, some schools have more rabid boosters and fans who'll pay any price to have their school be at and keep their teams at the top, and lastly, some schools have entire corporations pretty much sponsoring them already.

We were beaten by a team that lost to Rutgers.  Rutgers.  Let that sink in.

Warde is like Matt Millen. …

Warde is like Matt Millen.  Harbaugh probably lost Schlissel with his participation in the protests.  When it comes to renew Harbaugh's contract, I'm sure Schlissel will do something.  That's how it works in academia.

His life does suck, it's only value predicated on the exploits of young men that he has no connection to.

He's not going anywhere,  As…

He's not going anywhere,  As long as he runs a clean program and has decently competitive seasons, Warde is not going to interfere and Schlissel would be even less inclined to interfere than Warde.  They'll just leave him to run the program as he sees fit.  Unless he gets a Belichick GM/Head Coach job in the NFL, there's always going to be some GM or suit potentially interfering with his team, aka his time with the 49'ers.

What is your connection to…

What is your connection to the University, WD?  You're not a student, you're not an alum, you're not an employee, and you're not faculty.  Schlissel has a responsibility as President of the University, to try to keep the student body, the employees, and the faculty safe. He doesn't have a responsibility to you, who are none of these things. You're just someone who just seems to have an unhealthy obsession with U of M sports and whose self-worth is dependent on the performance of certain athletic teams.

These kids are student-athletes.  Not only just the men's hockey and basketball and football teams but all the student-athletes. Let them be students first in a safe (as possible) environment.   Otherwise, we can just drop the pretense and call it what it is, that these guys in sports like football and basketball, are just playing in the farm system for the NFL and NBA.  That they're here for your entertainment only and that you have no concern regarding their overall well-being.

There are 4 other strains or…

There are 4 other strains or coronavirus that cause the common cold.  They're much more widespread than SARS.  If being infected in the past confers some immunity as you're positing, why is there such a differential between different countries?   You're just picking and choosing whatever fact you want to use to explain why other countries have had better outcomes.  We have 4% of the world's population but 25% of the cases.  Explain that.  Explain why our very polite neighbors up north, who don't seem to be living in an authoritarian regime, why they have 1/5 of the cases per capita that the US does.

People like you make me…

People like you make me vomit.  The decision to suspend college sports was done so to protect the STUDENT-athletes.  Maybe out of an abundance of caution.  You think the university presidents really wanted to give up hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue?  The only thing you seem to care about is to throw the students into the breach, damn the possible repercussions for them, simply for your entertainment, like gladiators in the arena.  "Oops, we were wrong, sorry about your health issues.  But hey, at least you got to play football."

In 1964, Strom Thurmond, migrated from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party where he was more comfortable spouting off his racist segregationist views.  A lot of the southern Dixiecrats went with him.  Henceforth the Republican "Southern Strategy." So what's worse?  A party that's aware of it's awful past and changes it's views or a party that, in these modern "enlightened" times that actually embraces racism?

Revenue loss of $100 million doesn't mean that they're $100 million in the red.  It just means that they're going to have to adapt to having less money, like the rest of society.
