When Does Harbaugh Say Screw It and Return to NFL?
Hot Take
How long does Harbaugh put up with Warde Manuel and Mark Schissel being in bed with the Big Ten or flat out contradicting his stances? Half of the fan base already wants him gone anyway. Ohio State is united on their stance about playing. Their president, AD and Head Coach are in line. Warde and Schissel want to hold Michigan out even if Big Ten rules to play. If Michigan doesn't play before December, I think Harbaugh goes back to the NFL.

It’s not even Halloween and you’re already putting coal in my stocking dude!

Username checks out...
September 6th, 2020 at 9:36 PM ^
Harbaugh is just insane enough to stick around at least until he beats OSU.
September 7th, 2020 at 6:01 AM ^
That’s good news for us. Because the way things are going that could take a while.
September 7th, 2020 at 11:41 AM ^
Can we just have a do over of 2016?
September 6th, 2020 at 9:36 PM ^
Who could blame him? He wants to coach football, wants his players to be able to play football and likely doesn’t appreciate being used as a pawn in a political game.
September 6th, 2020 at 9:45 PM ^
I wouldn’t blame him one bit. He’s certainly not appreciated for what he has done here.
We were a joke for awhile with RR and Hoke. I was there for all of it. Every single game, every single bit of shit I’d get from people in junior high and HS after every embarrassing loss. I’ll never take for granted what we have now. We OWN msu once again.
The one (1) thing he hasn’t done is beat osu who is Alabama lite at this moment.
September 6th, 2020 at 9:51 PM ^
There's nothing Alabama Lite about OSU's roster, especially the recent classes. Maybe just say "Alabama."
September 6th, 2020 at 10:22 PM ^
Based on the latest recruiting classes, OSU can be considered Alabama heavy.
September 6th, 2020 at 10:39 PM ^
The difference between them and Alabama is that Alabama has more than just one national title with all of their great classes.
September 6th, 2020 at 10:07 PM ^
What? Winning the Big Ten is something he still has "to do". That certainly was expected to have happened by now...not even discussing getting into playoffs.
September 6th, 2020 at 10:33 PM ^
WD, wake up! A Harbaugh coached team has not won a road game against a decent opponent other than against Florida his first year - do not include a 7-6 ped state aong his illustrious road wins. Also, the ass kicking at the hands of THEEEEEE ohio have been EPIC!
Feel free to neg away with all your accounts.

Ohio State has only lost 7 games in the past 5 years. They are not just beating Michigan, they are beating everyone. These are their glory years, prior to JT they wanted to win the Big Ten and go to Rose Bowl. UM took it to another level, and now RD inherits a machine that recruits nothing below a high 4*.
JH will not leave AA until his daughter graduates (I think 2022), by my calculation that means we have 2 maybe 3 more shots at OSU.
Lastly, cannot believe this story just went away. One of the DT's for OSU was shot last weekend in the face. The police were called to the scene because a gun shot was heard. Upon their arrival, they followed a blood trail to an off campus football house, where Tuff Borland and others met the police in driveway. All of the players (4) say they have no idea what happened. Once they found the player, he says, he attempted to break up an argument between a couple, and the guy shot him in the face. However, the very popular "gateway" apartment area has video footage on every corner, and the CPD does not believe the player story, in fact they believe strongly it was a drug deal gone bad. The victim will not cooperate, the school is staying "out of it", and the State attorney has elected to no longer pursue.
Having lived in a Columbus suburb the past 7 years, the amount of crimes that have happened with junk consequences or none is out of control. I firmly believe a scandal or major crime will break this program at it's knees, if they don't get caught for cheating before that. Just off the top of my head:
- DT shot in face 2020
- 2 players (local kids) arrested and charged with rape and kidnapping facing 10+ years 2020
- Chase Young scandal 2019
- UM suspension and Zach Smith (grandson of Earl Bruce) situation where UM phone magically was deleted and ZS avoids jail after beating his ex-wife multiple times.
- JT Barrett pulled over intoxicated "I'm the Buckeye QB" no charges 2018
- Joey Bosa drunk & disorderly rips trash can off bolts in short north, throws at car no charges 2017
-Brionte Dunn assault and domestic violence charges 2017
- Storm Klein beats his gf / Cardale Jones - enough said and the GodFather of it all, one MAURICE CLARETT

All great points and all of which is true but if none of these incidents go unpunished, then nothing will. Like you said, OSU has only lost 7 games in 5 years.
Michigan could never get away with the crap that OSU gets away with in 100 years.
September 7th, 2020 at 3:34 PM ^
This is so true it hurts.
September 7th, 2020 at 9:44 PM ^
Lotsa good points, yes, but...
Purdue beat Ohio State. Michigan State beat Ohio State. Iowa Beat Ohio State. Even Maryland almost beat Ohio State (came down to the last play). Okay, so Michigan almost beat Ohio State in 2016; one play, just like Maryland. Looking at it like this is painful but true.
September 8th, 2020 at 10:48 AM ^
Congrats, you went back almost 20 years and came up with 8 issues. I'm going to focus on this comment:
"Having lived in a Columbus suburb the past 7 years, the amount of crimes that have happened with junk consequences or none is out of control."
DT shot in the face: I live in Columbus and have not heard one whisper (no I'm not just talking about Columbus media) anywhere of the statements you are making, care to post a link? So what was supposed to happen here? He was the victim of a shooting and should be in trouble because of your fabricated story?
2 players arrested and charged with rape: Umm, junk consequences or none at all? Dudes are in a jail cell waiting to go to prison most likely. So there goes your theory of no consequences.
Chase Young "scandal": You mean the money that they proved he gave back to get his girlfriend to travel to the bowl game? Some major scandal there. He was suspended for 2 games, so "junk or none" is not accurate.
UM/Zach Smith: One was fired, the other was suspended and retired. Urban still to this day not proven he was involved at all, he was suspended for not spilling his guts to Brett McMurphy at B1G media days. As far as Smith, piece of shit human by all accounts, was fired, but to this day there isn't a single abuse charged filed on him. And I know more of the story than most as I have contacts in the Powell PD, his wife is by and large considered a freaking public nuisance.
JT Barrett: Pleaded guilty to OVI, paid the fines, and was suspended. I mean a quick search of Franklin County Court Records would have given you the information needed to show your comment is flat out wrong.
Joey Bosa: Another story that you apparently heard a rumor and made up...glad to click a link that you can come up with.
Brionte Dunn: Was released from the team immediately. There goes your theory of lack of consequences.
Storm Klein: Was released from the team immediately. Ditto from above.
Cardale Jones: Revisionist theory always works for UM fans. Dude got pissed he got a B on an exam and posted the tweet. You seem to like to post stuff that has no factual backing, but refuse to spend 2 minutes on things that actually have the information out there.
I know things like basketball players wrecking cars that belong to the AD and then lying to cops only to be let go never happen in Ann Arbor never happen...oh wait, we started 2020 with something of that nature.
September 9th, 2020 at 9:17 PM ^
Get your facts straight ...
September 7th, 2020 at 8:45 AM ^
Yeah, the reality is, Michigan has become Iowa - minus the ugly racial environment. 9 wins in many years, an occasional 10 win season, a 2nd tier bowl game, and a lot of NFL draft picks. Although there are some nice things to hang our hats on there, it may not be very satisfying for some fans given the $7 million salary of the HC, plus millions more in assistant coaching salaries.
September 7th, 2020 at 2:02 PM ^
Disagree - Michigan>>>Iowa. Go Blue or Go Away!
How long did it take Bo to win a bowl game? 8 tries to win one.
September 7th, 2020 at 2:37 PM ^
Another thing NOT to be proud of.
September 7th, 2020 at 8:05 PM ^
Harbaugh with Milton is gonna hit ground running, and they shock the college world soon. Wait for it.
September 7th, 2020 at 12:17 PM ^
Harbaugh is our best coach since Carr and you along with many others on this blog want him gone. At least Michigan is competitive for being the 2nd best team in the B1G. The current playoff system has made OSU into a juggernaut, and until they expand the current playoff format to 8 teams for Michigan to get in with 1 or 2 losses we will not overcome the talent gap. But once we make the playoffs our recruiting will improve enough to compete with OSU.
September 6th, 2020 at 10:38 PM ^
You can't do that without beating OSU. Period, end of story.
September 6th, 2020 at 10:43 PM ^
But beating OSU doesn't guarantee winning the Big Ten.
I get you're trying to be all cute here, but it's ridiculous not to note the lack of a Big Ten title.
September 6th, 2020 at 11:09 PM ^
Given that they're in our division it's pretty close to impossible to make the B1G title game without beating them.
September 6th, 2020 at 11:15 PM ^
Do you not realize that making the Big Ten championship game is not the same as winning the Big Ten championship game?
September 7th, 2020 at 12:29 PM ^
So far the western division is a bunch of weak sisters and I don't see this changing unless Nebraska can take control of this division and improve their recruiting. Wisconsin will always remain an over coached bunch of 3 stars who cannot win big games on the road or in Indianapolis. I kind of wish the B1G would get rid of divisions and just have the top 2 conference team play in the B1G championship game.
September 7th, 2020 at 8:05 AM ^
Two years ago, 1 missed pass by Maryland on a 2 point conversion and Michigan backs into the East Title. So lady luck not good to us is the only reason HB hasn't been in the Big title game. And then there was 2016 call. Two plays, two fickle fingers of fate. HBs record could be different but for fate. He put us in a position to win the east at different points, even without a powerful offense. Can we at lease recognize that?
September 7th, 2020 at 11:24 AM ^
What is HB?
September 6th, 2020 at 11:32 PM ^
Come on, you are ducking the argument even with all your Super Guides, forget about THEEEEEEE ohio, which good win do we have on the road - Wiscy - NO, Ped State - NO, Notre Dame - NO, and look at our bowl record.
September 7th, 2020 at 10:11 AM ^
WD, yesterday you were the one ranting that "we don't even win any conference championships anymore and are a joke in bowl games". Make up your mind.
September 6th, 2020 at 10:40 PM ^
In what way is he being made a pawn? Both his university and his conference have voted no. Nobody asked him to do anything. He chose not to go along. He's the one who's politicized it.
September 6th, 2020 at 9:40 PM ^
He won't. Ann Arbor is his last coaching stop.
September 7th, 2020 at 9:11 AM ^
Always believed this to be the case as well
September 6th, 2020 at 9:42 PM ^
"half of the fanbase already wants him gone anyway"
Is that the same half that wants Urban Meyer as coach or the same half that wants to promote Josh Gattis?
September 6th, 2020 at 9:55 PM ^
Shit, warn somebody first.
I need some of that sawdust stuff the janitors throw on vomit piles.
September 6th, 2020 at 9:44 PM ^
At least yours is a unique speculation, not regurgitated twitter garbage by bitter Michigan haters.
I respect the speculation - this board is an appropriate forum to ask the question. (Even though I strongly differ with the 50% of fan base wanting him to go.)
I personally think he stays for the long haul. He has unfinished business in Ann Arbor...
September 7th, 2020 at 12:39 PM ^
I would agree with you if the season was not cancelled. And there will not be winter or spring football. I think Harbaugh is taking this hard and it may be what makes him jump to the NFL. Do think COVID will be gone by the 2021 season? It will still be around and the vaccine will only be 50 percent effective. I see the same problem occurring next year.
September 6th, 2020 at 9:53 PM ^
Schlissel needs to vote yes to play or get out! If Ward has the same opinion, it may be time to go for him also. Get the season started!!!!
#fireschlissel
September 6th, 2020 at 10:05 PM ^
Thought it was Schissel.
September 6th, 2020 at 10:23 PM ^
You apparently think that the President of the University of Michigan has no more important job responsibility than the happiness of the Head Football Coach. This isn't Ohio State, dude. There are rules.
September 7th, 2020 at 8:04 AM ^
Or, worse yet, the happiness of the vocal part of the fan base (as opposed to the part of the fan base that writes big checks). I can't speak for the rest of you louts, but I don't have enough insight into Coach Harbaugh to speculate if, let alone when, he's headed back to the pros. I do believe I have enough insight, based on his actions and words, to state the following:
- He likes his job and the town he lives in
- He operates with a strong internal conviction that there is right and there is wrong
- He will not be swayed by the fan base or the media unless they have a convincing argument which aligns with his notion of what is right.
We, as an institution, are fortunate to have found a good coach with a strong moral compass. He is well suited to shape the young men who are a visible part of the university. Are you willing to trade that for beating OSU or a Natty? When was the last time we had a national champion with a clean program? I can't speak for the rest of you, but lying and cheating your way to titles isn't the image I want for my Alma Mater.
September 11th, 2020 at 1:28 PM ^
Lying and cheating ? ?
September 6th, 2020 at 11:00 PM ^
Ok now it's 10-4 voting to not play
Congrats, there's no change
September 7th, 2020 at 12:30 AM ^
Just looking at the scores from Saturday, 2 games out of 10 (20%)! of games were postponed due to COVID in week 1. How on Earth do you see a season working?! Tennessee couldn’t even practice!
I appreciate your sense of loss and would love to have a season. We’ll look at the numbers next week, but it sure seems like the correct choice was made, to me, so far.
September 6th, 2020 at 9:54 PM ^
How hot of commodity is Harbaugh now for potential NFL teams?
September 6th, 2020 at 9:56 PM ^
The NFL is big on recycling so I'm sure someone would hire him.
