Just like football.

Just like football.

Defense is good, don’t have…

Defense is good, don’t have a QB. Lol.

Is it just me or is everyone…

Is it just me or is everyone banged up (offense especially). Man, I miss coach Herb…

Damn, many of these comments…

Jeez, many of these comments are so disappointing in ragging on Jim here; you are losing the forest through the trees.

The issue is not limiting the damage, Warde doing what is “best” for the university and moving on, or Jim wAs eVenTuaLly going back to the NFL. Those can all be true, fine you got us there.

The main point here is Jim was standing on principle, much like he has done and drawn the media’s ire his whole career because no one does this shit anymore. Not soft as Charmin Ryan Day, or bags of cash Saban, or really anyone off the top of my head in this sport for a very long time.  That’s why players love him, and part of why it’s so unorthodox in today’s day and age.

It’s fine if you want to settle with the corrupt NCAA and get probation, I get it.

Jim is a once in a lifetime coach who won a national championship with 2x 5 stars and the rest through grit and development. He has his flaws like anyone, but being the leaders and best means making hard decisions and standing up for what’s right, not what’s easy. Even if it means taking your lumps against the an organization with the media factory like ESPN, etc. standing behind them to churn out hit pieces. It won’t get any easier if the NCAA falls apart, because it will be replaced with more empty suits and political gamesmanship as power becomes increasingly concentrated at the top with the SEC and B1G.

If he lied to the NCAA, then yup he’s in the wrong on burgergate. But everything I saw to the affirmative was rumor and hearsay. And we know how tight lipped Jim is during his press conferences. I imagine he’s the same with the NCAA.

Anyways, food for thought. I’ll quit drinking and go to bed.

I miss this man.

I miss this man.

Why did we not pull Barzo at…

Why did we not pull Barzo at all, dignity? You have nothing to lose, never stop competing. Wtf.

Is it just me, or does it…

Is it just me, or does it seem like our team doesn’t try to block shots with their body? Sparty did this several times throughout the game, where I seemed to notice on a few occasions that we just tried for a stick breakup. Call it “toughness” or whatever, but I’m curious if this is just the way we’ve been playing all year.

I’ve been downvoted on this,…

I’ve been downvoted on this, but the only reason I mention Creighton’s McDermott is specifically because Sam Webb was saying we would kick the tires around on him and his buyout wasn’t horrible (or even published). I get that he’s now in sweet 16 and we wouldn't/couldn't hire him yet, but he’s made the sweet 16 three years in a row. Dusty will be fine, and of course we weren’t getting Wright or any of these other pipe dreams, but it should at least have been said that he returned most of his seniors this year and lost in the first round to NW.

on the flip side, it is being reported that Beilein was asked to help in the coaching search and he helped Warde chose May, and possibly will be involved in some capacity in the program… don’t know if that is a bench coach or what, but this is at least a positive outlook in hiring Dusty. Time will tell.

Why was Dusty our top choice…

Why was Dusty our top choice over McDermott at Creighton? Ehhhhh

My gf and I were thinking of…

My gf and I were thinking of going there soon, she has a severe anaphylaxis to tree nuts (carries epi-pen). I assume our best best for restaurants is more in the hotel or nice restaurants? Not sure how sensitive they are to food allergies. Will definitely have to avoid eating at food markets and such unfortunately :-( will def be venturing to Kyoto and Tokyo, among others.

Who is hurt on the bench at…

Who is hurt on the bench at the end? They did a quick pan over.

Did anyone see our player…

Did anyone see our player just get tackled in the corner? wtf…

Should we be careful that…

Should we be careful that Alford is not going to steal our signs??? I wouldn’t put it past Buckeye nation to have a mole…

Jimmy in 2021: My ultimate…

Jimmy in 2021: My ultimate aspiration is to go back to the NFL and win a Super Bowl.

Warde: sounds good Jim, I’ll get right on that succession plan. Leaders and Best.

Jimmy in 2024: *Leaves for Chargers*

Warde: I ran all the analytics over past 3 years , and the answer is to do nothing. Sherrone, you’re up. Make us proud!!!

Instead of Bball coach, Does…

Instead of Bball coach, Does anyone think Beilein would have the chops for AD? Maybe not in the NIL era I guess, but worth a gander…

Great post and book…

Great post and book recommendation.

Funny story about Mr…

Funny story about Mr. Roundtree to echo other posters, he hung out with my roommate a lot during our junior year after practice. He hated watching ESPN because he said he got enough of watching game film all week. What did we watch instead? Nickelodeon. Myyyy mannnn.

Man, reading that hurt. A…

Man, reading that hurt. A lot. I remember the elite eight and hoping we would get Phil Martelli to at least one final four in his career. Sheer pain when we missed the last like 7-8 shots in a low-scoring game decided by 1.

Yeah Swifties won it all in…

Yeah Swifties won it all in 3 months after adopting KC as their team. Lions fans are still waiting 70 year later…

Juwan says hi.

Juwan says hi.

Announcers just mentioned it…

Announcers just mentioned it, unfortunately too low. came off side of his foot.

Moody with the extra point…

Moody with the extra point blocked. Didn’t this happen to him a lot this season? I wonder if he’s kicking too low. #GoBlue

Barcewszki playing his ass…

Barcewszki playing his ass off, our D not doing him any favors. That split save was unreal.

Oh, and wtf refs with that boarding call. Draper got smoked.

Didn’t see this YouTube… https://youtu.be/c2yf03OftYw?si=leQj7TVYqHicEWbu

Didn’t see this YouTube video posted either, but Jim talked on Eisen’s show and it made me chuckle:

“No one is happy when a head coach leaves a college football program. Either he gets fired, he moves onto another program, or he dies. For me, I’m happy I didn’t have to die!”
“It’s a fairytale ending for all of us at Michigan. And it’s a new beginning for me at the Chargers.”

Yeah Clink leaving in that…

Yeah Clink leaving in that way was def shitty on his part. I don’t blame Jim for Clink or Elston leaving, as they were passed over for the DC role for a more experience hire.

We knew Minter and Jaybaugh would leave with Jim, so that really just means I’m frustrated that Herbert did. It seems even though he was asking for the moon in his alleged 10 year contract to stay here, I didn’t see any reports that we even tried to negotiate for him to stay and it happened so quickly.

Maybe this is a bit of tough love and allowing a coach to not be born on 3rd base so he can fill out his staff the way he wants, but it’s all water under the bridge now with our whole defensive staff gone which sucks.

Eh yeah I get what you’re…

Eh yeah I get what you’re saying, I actually don’t think Clink and Elston is Jim’s fault because they were passed over for the DC role internally.

This is the way.

This is the way.

And for the record, it seems…

And for the record, it seems Sherrone has been in contact with Jim and Minter to find a DC candidate. So I get all the Harbaugh dislike, but it seems this was known between the coaches and Jim isn’t totally leaving Sherrone high and dry. Allegedly at least lol. I assume they are recommending Martindale with his invention of the amoeba style defense:

And for the record, it seems…

Well written and great insight.

Yeah, it’s really…

Yeah, it’s really interesting as we don’t know the details of the contract negotiations between UM and the Chargers. I understand blaming Jim for taking staff, but if Warde was penny pinching and/or not offering raises for current staff, then of course it could make sense to take a promotion regardless. Again, we are all on the outside looking in, but I think abdicating blame is difficult at this point until we learn more.

Also, Warde needs to go.

Another back breaking second…

Another back breaking second half collapse after we started out nicely in the 1st up by 10. Feels like we just passed Groundhog Day, oh wait.

The issue as others have…

The issue as others have noted, is not just that the NCAA is trying to adjudicate NIL. It’s that their “laws” if you will are not applied equally and they cherry pick less competitive schools to go after than the Bamas and Ohio States. This is the main issue and the Tennessee AD summarized it perfectly.

The best man.

The best.

FYI - Rod Moore posted on…

FYI - Rod Moore posted on his insta with all the snow in Ann Arbor today - “tired of this shit”. There is something to be said for reading tea leaves of course, but a testament to Moore’s recruiting chops will also be keeping our stellar defense next year in house without transferring. I think we will of course!

Are you hearing any news…

Are you hearing any news inside of Schembechler regarding potential OC/DC hires?

So if we take a step back…

So if we take a step back here, what I wonder behind the scenes if is Moore and JH talked about which hires Sherrone should/can make if JH took Minter, Herbert, etc. to the NFL.

If JH talked to Sherrone about this, then maybe these departures are OK. Moore respects Jim a lot, so potentially Jim would want to help his players and the team out (not Warde), especially considering the respect he has for Sherrone as well.

We don’t know if these conversations took place, and if we hire Orr from the Ravens then we can conclude that Jim has likely advised on this topic and maybe the situation isn’t as dire as we’d like to think…

Time will tell.

Even though Ravens had 2…

Even though Ravens had 2 endzone turnovers, man did it seem the officiating was one sided in Chiefs favor. 30 yards in penalties for Chiefs vs 95 for Ravens.

I guess the league is salivating at a Taylor Swift Super Bowl? Booo

Jim in a sense, was a…

Jim in a sense, was a visionary for college football. He had to be to succeed at Michigan with our lackluster NIL collective and high academic standards. It started the satellite camps and signing with the stars and yearly team trips, and ending with a team built from only 2 five stars and a new defense extracted from the latest and greatest schematic in the NFL to win a national championship.

Warde is none of these things, which is fine and not something he can apologize for. But the template that Jim built is there for NIL and a plan for revenue sharing which Warde should be driving as an administrator.

Instead, it seems in public he says nothing other than status quo and in private I imagine he doesn’t expect to incorporate these changes with Jim’s fingerprints on them. We will see, but if history bears repeating, I expect not much will change.

I’m at peace after seeing us…

I’m at peace after seeing us win a national championship in my lifetime. Onward.

Totally agree with this,…

Totally agree with this, however I feel football in a sense might become like basketball where seniors and 5th years really give a team the best chance at a title because they know the system they play in and are developed. Transfers of course play a part too, but I think Jim showed a new way to play college ball where you can have solid teams year in and year out if you minimize transfers from your roster and build depth to avoid injuries and keep everyone happy. The Saban way of all 5 star teams winning titles could (and should) become a thing of the past…

Article above from 2022 mentions that Harbaugh actually talked to Enos who recommended hiring Sherrone for the 2018 season. This was after Enos dipped on us for Bama.

Agreed. The disingenuous…

Agreed. The disingenuous grandstanding (or so it seemed) at the National Championship celebration preaching “I’m doing everything in my power to bring this man back as head coach” was a load of bull. Maybe Warde really did everything he could, but it seems he was happy to see Jim leave and promote Sherrone.

if his relationship with Jim was tumultuous at best, I assume his indifference helped seal the deal for Jim go back to the NFL and was what he ultimately wanted anyways.

When we talk about AD…

When we talk about AD competence, Warde didn’t fire Juwan after he punched an opposing coach on live TV. To me, this is all the evidence one needs to show our AD does not represent the Leaders and Best. Harbaugh debate aside, this is a clear example of why it has been difficult to support his overall decision making at the university.

But did he have a…

But did he have a performance review? /s

I definitely understand your…

I definitely understand your point. However to me it wasn’t that Warde did nothing, it was that after the magical 2021 season Harbaugh’s contract was revisited, aaanndddd he still gave him less than he was originally making. To me this is more about competence and Manuel playing politics, which doesn’t sit well with many folks.

This has been mentioned…

This has been mentioned before, but the pragmatic thing for Warde to do was rehire Jim. The additional revenue he would have generated UM (and already has) over another 5-ish years with merch sales, playoff appearances, events, etc. would be substantial.
A report came out detailing Saban’s rise in generating an extra 2 billion for Bama over his tenure.

I get the whole immunity clause was a holdup until the final hour, but being the businessman Warde is, I’m surprised we didn’t offer a signable contract to Jim sooner.

Maybe this wasn’t rehashed…

Maybe this wasn’t rehashed yet, but at most I imagine Jim would be suspended for one year. Couldn’t we pony up a donor like Stephen Ross to cover his one year of salary? Also, I understand clearly the NCAA isn’t a court of law, so we could probably go through the TRO/appeals process again EARLY in the season and still have Jim coach (albeit missing a few games max, namely Texas)? At least he wouldn’t be out for the whole season.

Considering the NCAA is close to bankruptcy and has lost court cases left and right the past few years, I feel this is the worst case outcome in regards to his suspension if we fought it in court, and the immunity clause doesn’t seem so far fetched in his contract.
