I think they missed an…

I think they missed an opportunity to hire Woodson, Howard, and Brady as guest coaches for each of the three games. :)

I have a question regarding…

I have a question regarding the QB option run game. When deciding whether it’s a correct decision to pull/give … are you analyzing the actions of the DE only, or are you taking into account the LB action (scrape exchange?)

I wonder if the use of the QB option runs as a play is made pre game or in game. I got to believe some of it is predicated to pre game personnel matchups. I’d probably not use the QB run if I had Tom Brady running vs Aiden Hutchinson and Josh Ross. I’d probably give Denard Robinson the green light if he was matched up against those two no matter what defense was run. On the other hand, if the defense decides to consistently crash the DE without a LB replacing the edge then it might be an in game decision to allow the QB pull no matter who the QB is.

I also wonder how much the Don Brown effect is still with us. Brown’s defense really snuffed out the read option, often times by switching assignments to make the QB read the wrong defender. Sometimes practicing against that a lot makes you reluctant to use it in a game.

Last time I remember losing…

Last time I remember losing the #1 WR to a knee injury was back in 1991. Other guys stepped up that year.

Today,  I’ve been looking to…

Recently,  I’ve been looking to Japan for some newer sounds in rock music: I like Kanami Tono’s work both as a guitarist and songwriter for Band-Maid.

Agree with Mgostrength,

Agree with Mgostrength ... Using “fascia” to repair a rotator cuff repair is not the “traditional” rotator cuff surgery. Also seeing your post that said your humeral head is contacting your acromion on X-rays really suggests that you have a massive full thickness tear.

You are likely being offered what is known as a “superior capsular reconstruction.” Shoulder surgeons have been offering this as an alternative to those who are considered “poor candidates for rotator cuff repair” (poor candidates are those who have fatty atrophy of the muscles, significant retraction/size of tear ... makes it more likely the tradition surgery will have a poor result).  You might consider looking at the data for superior capsular reconstruction using fascia lata allograft to help you with your decision.

edit: just read mooseman’s posts and agree with all replies I’ve read so far from him/her.

I liked the arc read option…

I liked the arc read option pass to the TE #84. I don’t remember seeing that this year or last year.

What probably would be good…

What probably would be good is to give the man an extra loud cheer every time he gets a touch. Something to let him and the team know they have support from the fans.

Copied from the Harbaugh…

Copied from the Harbaugh presser thread:

The fumbles:

"Yeah. It was a … I’ve got to look at them. I saw the one that was Zach as he was going down, just maybe put a foot off the ground, got hit from the side." "It happens, but we’ve got to keep making an emphasis on it. I know our backs are, it’s the biggest emphasis that they have." "Coaching ball security all the way to the ground, through the whistle, through the echo of the whistle and beyond."

I think this this is a very reasonable take. You need to see what happened. Assignment errors such has not picking up a blitz, and getting a QB sack-fumble is bad. Holding the ball out while absorbing contact is bad. Those are things that can be prevented.

I would say that our worst fumble last Saturday was one we did not lose. The QB-RB exchange we put on the ground that Shea recovered. That’s a fumble that shouldn’t occur, and can be decreased with increasing the boring, repetitive practice.

Im not sure that most college kids are mature enough to figure that out yet. Some may be too hard on themselves because of good plays by their opponents. Others won’t think a preventable fumble is their fault and won’t put in the practice time to fix it.

(Although this is only a presumption by me - I kind of wonder if Shea is affected both way. He could be too worried about INTs, and as such, it takes him too long to decide to throw, leading to a lot of missed open receivers because he does not want an INT. On the other hand, perhaps he undervalues that some of his fumbles have been at least partially on him leading to some of his ball security issues. Seems like he’s still learning when to throw the ball away, when he needs to cover up and take the sack, vs. try to escape and make a play.)

I thankfully do not think…

I thankfully do not think Jim Harbaugh would be affected by job performance metrics.

And you need to be very careful if you ever install performance metrics that are linked to pay. There are many that will “game” whatever system you set up to maximize the pay, while being an overall detriment to the whole.

Unfortunately, I'm too…

Unfortunately, I'm too traumatized to watch the game again.

My amateur eye sees the same thing as Magnus. The left side of the field is where the defense is set up to be able to take advantage.

My question would be: Did we ever run the same play again, and if we did on the second try, did we look to the other side of the field?

Also agree with…

Also agree with MaximumEffort and dcallen39. OP is incorrect.

I agree, The toned down…

I agree, The toned down Harbaugh occurred right after the "Harbaugh rule" went into effect.

That said, having been a college kid competitor (different sport), and having coached them (different sport) ... college kids are mentally fragile. They're still building up their mental fortitude abilities. Having a fiery coach does help. Having a supportive home crowd does help. Having a unsupportive road crowd does depress the will to fight.

And yet referees are also affected. Perhaps those referees in games should also be scouted. Some are likely to wither and start being favorable to your team to avoid being the target of ire. Whereas others may rebel and start throwing more flags at you.

I agree.

Not counting the…

I agree.

Not counting the end of the half drive, 3 out of 4 drives ended in turnovers. 75% of offensive drives ended in fumbles. And we’re only down 14-7.

I think Harbaugh made the decision at half we were not going to lose this game because the offense continued to screw up and turn the ball over. This game was going to be ugly and won with Don Browns defense in the second half, and the offense’s job was to not make things hard on the defense.

Answering my own question -

Answering my own question -

first OT was run, run, pass (first down), pass (pass interference first down), run (touchdown)

second OT was 3 passes, No first down, and FG.

So OT was in total 3 runs 5 passes.

Hi - Thanks for doing the…

Hi - Thanks for doing the success rate %. I don’t know much about the success rate %.  I’ve got a question about it though - does the success rate take into account how successful a successful play is, and how bad an unsuccessful is? For example - I would presume a 0 yard run and a strip-sack-fumble are both counted as unsuccessful plays, but one is likely much more detrimental to winning than the other so they count differently? On the other hand, a 7 yard pass to get a first down and a 3 yard pass for a TD is also counted different?

For what it’s worth, we lost the first half 14-7 when we were diverse with the higher success rate, then won the second half 7-0 when we were in the “offensive shell” and the lower success rate, and then won OT 10-7. I guess I kind of want to know if we were still in an offensive shell during OT, but I’ll have to look at the box score myself.

I thought someone had recommended this link about defending the triple option. Seems like he really preferred a 3-4.

I remember the same. QB keep showed up during Wisconsin.

Looks like he learns quick…

Looks like he learns quick too. Was he coached up or did he learn it on his own? The second failed 4th and 2 and the OT touchdown looked like the same play. Was it split zone with a pulling arc??? Looks like the army DE dove inside the in-line TE both times plugging the intended hole. First time Charbonnet goes straight into a nonexistent hole. Second time, he goes outside the TE/DE block and then takes on 2 army second level defenders to get into the end zone.

My opinion.

My opinion.

Hell no to the sealant.

I think you should look into the costs of head gasket repair with sending parts off to a machine shop vs. putting in a low mileage used engine. JDM is a decent source for japanese low mileage used engines. Their used engines usually have around 40-60k miles on them, carry a warranty, and are compression and leak down tested ahead of time. I probably wouldn't pull a used junkyard engine unless you knew the history of how that particular car was cared for.

As for the possibility of getting a new car, I think that depends on the rest of the car. Im in California, a state with no rust. I'd have no problems putting a used engine into a 1997 car. Since Im on mgoblog, I used to live in Michigan. If the floor of my car was rusted out ... or if the entire frame of the car and all the suspension components were held together by rust ... it's time for a new vehicle.

I felt both. I’m about 150 miles south. Today’s a a little stronger, I think something fell off a bookshelf somewhere. Will find whatever it was later.

the problem with these is the anxiety when it starts - you don’t quite know if it is a big one far away (like these two days), a smaller one where you’re at, or if it is the beginning of a big one right where you’re at.

I think Avik Roy would need to release more info regarding his red zone chart numbers to see if there’s really something there. Any >20 yard runs that can occur outside the red zone can easily skew the numbers. Kind of like saying that Khalid Hill was not effective since his average carry was 1 yard.

It makes sense to me under…

It makes sense to me under California law.

From how I best understand it, the law is trying to prevent non-compete clauses in contracts if it is a legal profession.

for example, if a physician in a partnership leaves a medical practice, there will be a clause In The contract that says something like “you cannot practice medicine in a 25 mile radius” from the original site where services were rendered. This is a non-compete clause, essentially saying that you are supposed to leave your patients with the medical practice, not set up a new independent practice across the street and take the patients away.

Essentially, that clause in the contract can not be enforced in California (even though it seems to be in very contract).

On on the other hand, if that physician loses his medical board license, causing him to leave the medical practice, he can not practice medicine because it would beillegal for that physician to practice medicine in the state.

I read a blog a few years…

I read a blog a few years back about this play. I found it again here:

http://breakdownsports.blogspot.com/2015/02/inside-playbook-jim-harbaugh-rushing-attack-run-game-power-o-inside-zone-wrinkles.html

That blog called the play “down G”. Perhaps that reference may be helpful to someone.

Edit: I see Brian in the ufr and stevenrjking above have already referred to the play as “down g”

I prefer the white jersey, maize pants. The white jersey needs the proper accents and trim though. Block Ms on the shoulder, a bit of maize/blue highlights. White on white is a good alternate. I did not like the all maize.

Well, some people do need to Well, some people do need to be available 24/7/365.

Those folks would obviously be very happy to surrender their phone for 2-3 hours; however, those needing to contact that person would likely be quite unhappy.

My issue is that if you're My issue is that if you're going to review that play for whom the ball touched last, you should be able to say that you also missed the foul where the defender got half ball-half hand causing the ball to pop loose. Get the whole play right.
I agree. Brady had it worse. Ugh, my first double post.
I agree. Brady had it worse. I agree. Brady had it worse. Even though he was winning as a starter, they kept putting Henson in the game for the second quarter. As for recent transfers that made it to the pros ... Jake Rudock comes to mind.
Well, according to the 2015 Well, according to the 2015 article below, IZ has been a staple of the Harbaugh running game for a while. its not like he never ran IZ or OZ before he hired Frey. I'm not convinced you have to be a only gap team, or only a zone team. http://breakdownsports.blogspot.com/2015/02/inside-playbook-jim-harbaug…
I do remember hearing about I do remember hearing about it too, and I just did a brief internet search to try to look it up but only found vague references. If someone knows better, please share. Coaches apparently can't go onto the field anymore, without risking an unsportsmanlike penalty. And something new this year is that coaches can be ejected from games for protesting calls.
yes, can someone with better yes, can someone with better knowledge comment? I know there are new rules with unsportsmanlike penalties specifically aimed at coaches who are demonstrative on the sidelines. Does anyone know the specifics of the new rules? Edit: my brief internet search suggests that coaches can't walk onto the field of play unless invited by the officials, and they can now be ejected from the game for protesting calls.
I do remember Harbaugh saying I do remember Harbaugh saying in a interview som time ago, that the "option in some form" would always be somewhere in the offense, because of the stress it places on a defense. I don't know if I've yet recognized it this year.
At 8:25 can anyone lip read At 8:25 can anyone lip read what Harbaugh is telling O'Korn?
I was there. 26 years ago? I I was there. 26 years ago? I guess I'm getting old. Still bleed Maize and Blue. :)
I want to know if the 3-3-5 I want to know if the 3-3-5 utilized against franks was different from the 3-3-5 used against Zaire.
Since we were playing mostly Since we were playing mostly a 3 man front, I wouldn't expect any of the DL to get their name called a lot. And I thought that playing a 3-4 would put edge contain responsibility on the OLB, not the DL? I think if Gary played 3 tech or WDE in a 4 man front he'd rack up many TFLs and sacks.
I think so too. Since brown I think so too. Since brown started out with 4DL and quickly changed to a 3 man front, it seemed like he sensed that Florida wasn't going to take advantage of having less beef up front. To me, it seemed that most 3man fronts still had at least 1 LB rushing. Can't wait for the UFR. Also underappreciated was our edge contain. How many perimeter plays did Florida run where the guy is contained and gets turned back right into a hustling Mo Hurst!
For what it's worth, he's For what it's worth, he's likely diagnosing with visual evidence. There are a few classic injury mechanisms for acl tears. If you slow down a replay of the injury, you can see what leg positioning and action was being performed, and tell if the mechanism of injury is one that is typical of acl tears or not. You can read up a little on here: https://www.physio-pedia.com/Anterior_Cruciate_Ligament_(ACL)_Injury

FWIW, I think Harbaugh FWIW, I think Harbaugh already accomplished his goal with the presser rant. I think the whole locker room felt that way, and if Harbaugh says it, that means no one else on the team has to say it. Harbaugh will take any fine. He's fine with absorbing any criticism. He doesn't care what people outside the team think about him. If he didn't say it, and a player was goaded into saying it by the press, they'd be labeled as a whiner and loser. Because you know, the press already wrote an article about X player whining about the officiating. Harbaugh made them change the story.
