I have HATED Wisconsin athletics for many years (and it reached a new level after the career-ending injury to Grant Newsome).

I hope we make Wisconsin our bitches for the next decade or two or three across as many sports as possible.

Replies are borked so 50/50 whether this lands after Seth's comment...but geez, dude. Do you ever get downtime? I don't understand how you keep 90% of this place afloat.

Pretty crappy.

He had an easy job here:

"The events following Sunday's game were unacceptable and unfortunate. There's no place in collegiate athletics for physical altercations, especially among coaches. We hope everyone involved learned from this. It's now time to put this ugly episode behind us, and pursue a B1G championship with a reinforced emphasis on sportsmanship."

Don't have to shove it in Michigan's face. Don't have to name names. It was dumb and bad, it's dealt with, let's move on.

Just when you think Illinois had a lock on most insufferable reactions to extraordinary events, Wisconsin jumps into the fray and says get out of my way.  Man I can't wait for their routine flame out in the tourney.  I'm thinking they get upset in the second round, if they are lucky to make it that far.  I can't wait.

Lol. He had coaches touching opposing players, giving “suck it” signs, and literally had a player punch an opposing player in the face. But yes, your staff/players didn’t want any part of it and totally “de-escalated” the situation. How are you someone in a managerial position and say something like this!?! What should you expect from a school who has one of the dirtiest college players ever, and never really did anything about it.

What a fucking joke. While Juwan's actions were not justified and he was 100% in the wrong for his actions, Wisconsin 100% has some blame in this situation as well. Gard grabbed and impeded Juwan and Krabbenhoft escalated the situation even more by pushing two Michigan players. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills reading comments on social media about this situation, where no one can have a nuanced take on this situation. People seem to think that "Krabbenhoft should've been suspended" or "Gard shouldn't have put his hands on Juwan" as saying that Juwan's actions were justified. I gotta take a hiatus from places like Twitter and Reddit because the takes on this situation are infuriating. Most situations are not binary right/wrong and this is just another exhibit of people being unable to understand that

There's something to be said for being honest about what happened.  This statement from the UW AD is not honest.  It speaks volumes about the AD's character.

And it doesn't speak well...

Let's say the tables were turned, it was Juwan who laid a hand on Gards arm to explain, but Gard ended up hitting Eisley.  Would we think Juwan should be fined for escalation?

And nobody on our side, including Juwan or any of the players or press has blamed Joe Krabbenhoft for any escalation. We should NOT assume he escalated or not until one of ours on the floor that day talks.

What's done is done, lets hope coach learns from this, and we win out the rest of the season.

This post is a response to MGoOhNo. Maybe I misunderstood your post, but are you implying that Manuel does not "...understand(s) his role in advocating for his school, players and coaches."? Are you serious, Clark?

Wisconsin's AD essentially excused his coaches' and teams' behaviors, including those who were most definitely NOT "...trying to de-escalate the situation." Best-case scenario: he ignored those who played an integral role in the fiasco. That is not the role of an athletic director. It is, however, why players like Davison continue to be able to do what they do.

I'll happily take a leader who is accountable for his subordinates' behaviors and doesn't sugar-coat or ignore transgressions.

Fuck you, who exactly was trying to deescalate for Wisconsin.  Was it Gard grabbing Howard instead of just letting him pass and laughing off Howard's comment? Was it the assistant running in shoving UM players? The other assistant tackling Williams? Or maybe your player throwing the first punch among players with a couple of sucker punch attempts? Regardless of what Howard did this an absolute disengengous statement and fuck Wisconsin for not owning up to their part in it.

When people say hitting or slapping someone is always wrong, they haven't read this statement. Sometimes a little slap is exactly what's needed. And no more handshake lines with Wisconsin.

I’m disgusted by our fans.  People on here are saying Krabbenhoft(?) actually shoved two of our players.  I’ve watched the video countless times and I have yet to see anything besides his arms raised out.  Someone either link something or latch onto something else.  Looks foolish and sad.

"Our staff has my complete support, as do our student-athletes."

Even the one that threw a couple of sucker punches?

I couldn't wait to get them off the football schedule. Now I wish we were playing them this year.

After yesterday’s comments I didn’t expect anything different.  They don’t care about sportsmanship.  Their hatred for Michigan runs deep.  All they care is about winning.

Wow. I guess I disagree with all of you. I think this is an appropriate and well-crafted message. He doesn't refer to Michigan or Juwan in any way (let alone criticize them), and he says he supports his coaching staff and wants to turn attention back to basketball.

And you guys go into a fury ... at that? Which part, exactly? You think it's obvious that the Wisconsin coaches actually intended to provoke or incite the event? You think he shouldn't commend those who tried to de-escalate it? You think he should ... criticize his coaches, or accept blame for what happened? Even *I*, a full-on and many-decade Michigan fan, think it was our coach who's to blame for what happened.

Jesus. Get a grip. That's a decent, professional, 100% appropriate message. I feel like it needs to be pointed out: You can cheer for Michigan without being rabidly furious at everyone who works for a different school.

By picking up the fine, he sends a clear message that Wisconsin athletics condones ALL the actions that took place from the Wisconsin side.

This was a horrible night for Michigan and Michigan fans.  Yet somehow this tool leaves me with the feeling "at least we're not Wisconsin".

Fuck Wisconsin. Complete BS that their two grad assistance who blew this thing up were not fined or suspended. Michigan did the right thing but the B1G and NCAA often punishes Michigan the most!

What a bunch of fucking bullshit, Wisconsin football and basketball squads have often played underhanded and with dirty tactics and their AD talks like they're pristine and innocent little lambs, give me a break.

Juwan was very wrong but I really think Juwan was irked by the sneaky shoves and blows that Davison commits among other things, I  think he believes Gard coaches that way, this whole thing is fucked.

If you've ever had a narcissist try to "de-escalate" your anger you know exactly what kind of gas-lighting bullshit a statement like that is. Imagine Buzz apologizing to the family and then turning to Kevin and whispering "beat that, you little trout-sniffer"
