My problem is that I believe, while the "analysts" could possibly make a judgement on whether a 16 or 17 year old has the athletic ability to play college football and even single out the elite among them; I find it hard to believe the concept they are informed enough to "rank" those players from 1-2000. IMO, there are just too many variables even focusing only on the athletic attributes and that's before you take in to account "fit" and maturity.
Considering it is one of the things that pre-season rankings are based on, added to the fact that pre-season rankings (aka SEC bias #1) lingers the whole season because of it (Bama in the 2021 CFP/Tennesse's current ranking), I think UofM fans should always try show it's over emphasized.
Plus they always release theses re-rankings to show how much they actually suck at it.
And sometimes you actually have have two highly qualified QBs, the best of both worlds!
And when one of them is mature enough and one of the best leaders the leaders and best have ever seen; you can actually burden him with the insult of stealing his righteously earned job because he will do whatever is best for the team, including destroying broken fan base narratives that should have died 20 years ago.
I was assured last year in week 7 when Cade was "on pace" for 1500 yards that comparing him to Burrow in 2018 was ludicrous. The comparison was spot on and I expect the improvement to be nearly as drastic for Cade's passing offense.
So it makes more sense to force Weiss' running QB philosophy this year when you have:
2 starting WRs in their last year, 2 TEs in their last year, 1 RB probably gone and 3 on the OL probably gone as well?
That Doesn't make much sense to me, especially when you're shifting Offensive Co-ordination at the same time.
On the other hand; seems smart to keep the upperclassmen honing what they have been practicing the last 4 years, at the same time JJ would be working with Clemons, Walker, Morris, Edwards and the other underclassmen on the RPO/read concepts.
This is one of the reasons why alternating weeks is so smart, they can highlight and prepare specific plays each week that this weeks starting QB likes.
And in the final analysis as Bama proved in 2017 and Clemson in 2018, you can give the offense over to JJ at any point, whether that be game 5 or the second half of the CFP Championship game, if Cade's play shows he has hit the ceiling so many are sure he will.
Until then, the quagmire (giggity) of this season is the fact that the same QB that gives the team the best chance to win at Kinnick, especially at night; might not be the same QB that gives us the best chance to win in the CFB playoff or a sunny day at the toilet.
