Warde to skip CFP meeting as he handles "Important matters regarding the ongoing investigation"

Submitted by poseidon7902 on November 7th, 2023 at 6:12 PM

SIAP, I looked and didn't see anything.  Warde was interviewed on his plans for the rankings this evening and said he would be missing this week as he will stay in Ann Arbor "Attending to important matters regarding the ongoing investigation into our football program".  So it does appear he's doing 'something'  but no word on what exactly that is.

This is a Devil's advocate take, maybe Santa Ono wants himself to come across as the antagonist against the Big Ten and not destroy Warde's relationship with the other ADs and/or commissioner.

I personally don't believe this, but I'm trying to come up with a crazy hypothetical situations why he has been completely absent. Maybe the dude just sucks.

Even if you wanted to cut him loose, now can't be the time. An investigation, especially one that is a CFB phenomenon, isn't the time to jilt and let loose a higher up.

Also, if Ono were ever interested in using Warde as sacrificial lamb, then I doubt he'd show that card to the Big Ten/NCAA before knowing for certain that doing so would substantively improve Michigan's position in negotiating (or escaping) any penalties beyond a fine.

With Petitti, e.g., Ono may worry that any firing (beyond "accepting" Stalions's resignation) could be used against Michigan as an early admission of guilt.

I think we will know how much of a role Warde had with all of this, just by if he keeps his job or not.

If Santa or the BoR fire him or he resigns then we will know.

I’ve been watching this for some time and this Warde bashing somewhat annoys me.  No one knows what he is or is not doing.  No one knows what he has been told by Ono to do or not do.  I have complete confidence that the University is approaching this in a well planned and coordinated manner.  To suggest that Warde is sitting bemused and twiddling his fingers not knowing what to do besmirches the University’s well earned reputation.  I just don’t buy it.  His silence is purposeful possibly because they agreed that Ono would take the lead on this as he is the official Big Ten delegate.

Complaints about what Manuel's failed to do, which often flip into assumptions that he's doing nothing at all, seem based on our not knowing what he's doing.

But good executives are good to a large extent because they do not reveal their thoughts, do not "get real" and bare their souls, and do not do something only because lots of people are yelling what he should do.

Replied for truth (full transparency: I'm entirely meh on Warde**; of course, meh is less than Michigan deserves).

**[mostly a function of what I perceive as a value system that puts the M administrative state before the fan experience ... also wish he were more of a bulldog]

The problem is that our football program is literally facing an existential crises, and the person in charge of sports at the university has not said a word

Narrative means everything in situations like these, and we waited two weeks until the president of the entire university began to establish ours all while we were burning in the national media

I said in a post earlier that it was nice to see the Michigan fam all pulling as 1 but clearly people on here still have a hard-on for Warde. I wish we could set that aside, for now, so we can be united through this situation.

I'll start by pointing out a positive about WM.... I'm glad to see that Warde is in the fight for our coach as it's extremely important to protect Harbaugh at all cost as he appears to be the objective.

See that wasn't difficult...who wants to go next?

Nah.  It's too much fun watching the goobers here moan about the Big Ten going after Harbaugh with no evidence and in the next breath do exactly that to Manuel.

There are some things about Manuel's decision-making that maybe could do with improvement, but the same could be said about Harbaugh or Ono or you or me.

These meetings are also, by definition, nothing.  They are essentially excuses for management level employees to fly around, stay in nice hotels and eat nice meals on the company dime.

Every once in a while somebody may ask "was it really worth it to send a contingent of management staff off to three seperate, out-of-state meetings in November at a cost exceeding $2,000 per head, per trip?".  And the managers will take this question seriously.  They will admit that while the agendas of the actual meetings are admittedly somewhat unnecessary and redundant,  its really the conversations that happen in, around and after the meetings that justify the high price tag.  So with that out of the way,  please book my flight and hotel for my quarterly association meeting in NOLA in February
