Depends on what "significant fine" means.

EDIT:  MSU got $100k for the tunnel incident for perspective.   Real crimes, injuries, staff doing some questionable things as it was going on.

Yes, important to mention the suspension.

It should also be noted that no MSU staff received any punishment for the actions of the perpetrators or their own behavior.  Only a fine to the institution and, as you point out, there was considerable time taken to come to that punishment.

Yes maybe because he committed aggravated battery on multiple video source? That was justified and the people comparing the two are absurd doofuses. Fucking get real man. I think this will play out exactly the way it should: nothing happens. And they got a stern warning to never fuck around again.

Under Section 10.3.3.1 of the B1G Agreement 10 Sportsmanship Policy, the maximum fine that the Commissioner can issue unilaterally is $10,000. Anything more requires approval of the "Joint Group Executive Committee."

EDIT ADD: Although what I noted above is true, as Ghost of Fritz points out below, the B1G should not even be operating under the Sportsmanship Policy here. It should be operating under Rule 32, which requires deferral to the NCAA until it completes its investigation.

In other words, they are going to back the fuck off following the bitch slaps they got yesterday from UofM and Harbaugh's attorneys.

i.e. The B1G is in the process of reading and understanding its rule book and has been advised that its previously stated positions were weak and without merit.

Fine them the amount that would cover communications in the helmets for all the poverty programs in the Big10 and call it a day. Two birds, one stone.

It would be more meaningful if he had used past perfect tense (had) as opposed to present perfect tense (has), which denotes action that started in the past but is still continuing or action in the past that is likely to happen again.

If this is part of negotiating an outcome that Michigan will accept, it seems logical.  Otherwise, all of the logic of due process from the response still holds, and this wouldn't make sense.

Michigan should fight any penalty, to not do so would be hypocritical given the firm stance they have taken and the arguments laid out in the letters.

That being said, this would be welcome news as it would allow Michigan to play out the season with Harbaugh and alleviate the need for any TRO or injunction.

They can handle the litigation behind the scenes while everyone gets back to worrying about football.

This is all just reporting for clicks and the Big Ten office doubling down on looking as stupid as they can.

First, they let themselves get snowed. Now, they double down on declaring their previous prejudiced posture legitimate so as not to admit they looked like fools when they clearly were!

You know.. morons.

Michigan should offer that Jim will buy Pettiti a cheeseburger from The Little Brown Jug, and let them know that is the only concession they are going to get out of us.  Beyond that, try to substantiate your loser case and watch your conference crumble even more.

I have a question for the MGoBlog community regarding the rutgers, osu, and purdue sign stealing story. I played high school football and remember our Saturday morning film sessions. All of the games were filmed in the press boxes and then shared with each team. From this information teams came up with their game plans. Coaches would then use these plans/notes for the next game. From what I am reading the supposed defense for rutgers, osu, and purdue is that they did not use electronic equipment. My question is how easy do you think it would be for one person or even a group of people to sit on the sidelines with a pen and a piece of paper, in real time, without a tablet, phone, camera, communication system, or other electronic device and try to decipher a team's plays? You could obviously write down what you saw, but flipping through one or various handwritten notebooks comparing plays with others in a small window, say 10 seconds, so you could then counter and send your team the correct play seems like it would be incredibly difficult without photos, an electronic device, or a communication system.
