Very, very sad. I hope the kid gets help before he ruins his life, and I hope Coach Harbaugh, his family, and the entire staff are safe.

Hey, all you younger folks on MGoBlog: Shit gets better later in life. Things work out sometimes. Don't throw it all away because of hard times at 18, 19, or 20...

Last I knew we had a pretty reknowned Sports Psych. Dept. but I don't know if they proactively counsel students who are injured, suspended, cut, etc.

By telling him "Michigan is an open carry campus" he is basically threatening to shoot Harbaugh on campus.

With all the other school shooting stuff and everyone claiming "i wish we had done something to stop this before it happened" im going to say police need to arrest him and UM obviously needs to get his ass off campus asap

This is a "fog of war" issue here. We don't know exactly what he meant; some people speculated that the reason he was in trouble was that he was in possession of a firearm, and he is in such a statement proclaiming that he was unjustly treated.

But we have no idea. We do know that other tweets could be read as threatening.

I agree, it is hard to get a clear picture of what he meant. This is a copy pasta from reddit and a different read to what he could have meant from his tweets.

its pretty obvious what the kid is trying to say. Hes saying that someone went to his/families house. He went to the house and called the cops on them. He got suspended from the team. He says that even though he has the right to open carry he called the cops on the intruder instead. The it seems out of anger he said that next time this happens(because he will end up getting in trouble regardless) he will just shoot the intruder instead of calling the police.

Ahhh ok that makes sense then. So he pointed out that Michigan is open carry as in he will protect himself if someone comes after him. Yeah I just read some choppy tweets from reddit. I thought all tweets were focused at harbaugh

Still.........he sounds nuts. Hopefully he doesnt actually have access to a gun

Legally speaking with a cpl you could carry concealed anywhere on UM's campus that isnt a prohibited premise, i.e. dorms and classrooms, and stadiums or arenas, and theatres that seat 2500 or more. So library would be ok, diag would be ok, book store, etc. As for open carry Im pretty sure the cops could ask you to leave if you were open carrying say in the ugli and if you refused they could arrest you for tresspassing. the university is a public place so the diag would get interesting. But all this really only applies to non students since if you were a student you'd probably get expelled for violating the code of conduct.

"Melissa Overton, the university police deputy chief and spokesperson, said she couldn't go into details about her department's involvement because it is an ongoing investigation, but added that if there was a concern for public safety they would have sent out a crime alert to let those near campus know. She said that has not happened as of Tuesday afternoon."

it's time for a mental health intervention. This incident is a true red flag. Authorities have systems in place to evaluate the significance of the threat as well as if this young man requires any acute and longer term assessment and intervention.

While he made his account private, he apparently is tweeting behind the privacy if you search his mentions.

Checked out his post history and its hard not to agree with others who have made unprofessional diagnoses. It sounds like he has been trying to launch his own cryptocurrency. More on topic and recent he posted some evidence of communication with M staff from the fall that show he was not entirely disassociated from the program. Nothing I would consider legitimately threatening to Harbaugh. Appears to be directed at whomever showed up at the home of his friend/family.

My uneducated guess based on limited personal experience- because he's in a manic episode. You mentioned suspecting a psychological issue as well. The question of "why wouldn't he clarify" suggests a misunderstanding of mental illness.

My OP was also overconfident that he was not threatening coaches. But I did specify from the start it looked like an underlying health crisis and later elaborated this was just an opinion after taking in more of his Twitter feed.

When you consider the content of his tweets (persecutory beliefs) and his abnormal occupation with God (nothing wrong with religion, but he posts about it all the time, has a strange twitter handle, and did push back his college choice because God told him to). Fortunately, there is less of a stigma today with mental illness, and he needs to realize that getting help is OK.

Not going to lie - you should be investigated for that. I doubt it was actually a threat he'd follow through with, but you absolutely have to at least look into it. It's a sad situation all around.

Why wouldn’t he want to transfer after being suspended? Why hasn’t he? Why is he still in Ann Arbor after 6 months if he is upset with the way he was treated? Why isn’t he in Georgia to be closer to his family if it was a family crisis?

Things are not adding up...

Unless... he has lost his mind. He needs help regardless.

Hope he gets help. I have been dealing with depression and mental health issues for a long time. It is hard to go it alone.
