But when people like you sit here and claim things like "he doesn't know how to run Power" or "he doesn't attack the flats" or "he never breaks tendencies", you are flat out wrong. That's what I defended him against, that's what I'm defending Drevno and Pep against. A bunch of people make ludicrous claims about football basics and these coaches not understanding them and have no understanding about what actually goes into coaching football. They see about 3% of what actually goes into coaching, have no real knowledge of that 3%, demonstrate that lack of knowledge, and think they know best on staff decisions.
So pick apart indivual plays all you want. You don't know what the primary problem is. I don't know what the primary problem is. The problem may be gameplanning, it may be season planning, it may be coaching. Play calling may not be great, but I can promise it is lower on the list of problems. That was my position then and it's my position now. If the head coach, who is privy to much more information and has a hell of a lot more knowledge then a person that makes the claims above believes he is best served to fire a coach on his staff, then by all means he should do it. But making hyperbolic claims that aren't rooted in fact is a BS approach.

These coaches have been in charge of some of the worst offenses in college football.
Your're right, I don't know EXACTLY what the problem is. I don't think it really matters all that much. Where is the accountability for people being paid millions of dollars to coach "amateur" sports? I'd probably have a lot lower blood pressure if I took your approach of "coaches always know best".

Whatever. Just win. Harbaugh's track record entitles him to the benefit of the doubt, but 2017 (coupled with the handful of plays in 2015 and 2016 that would have made the difference between no championships with a 1-5 record against rivals and a likely 2016 B1G Championship with a 3-3 record against rivals) pretty much ate up his margin of error.
So if he wants to go all-in on Pep, then all I have to say is this had better work.
February 1st, 2018 at 3:38 PM ^
Harbaugh's does, but Pep's (especially at Michigan) doesn't. Last year's passing stats (all QBs combined):
2,226 yards
9 TDs
10 INTs
53.5% completions
6.4 Y/A

That's a great statline if you are a QB at Army, Navy, Air Force, or GT.

In 2017 the offensive line consisted of:
a Center (Cole) who was playing LT
a Left Guard (Bredeson) who is probably a RT
a Center (Kugler) who is not an NFL talent and who was probably playing by default
a RG (Onwenu) who may have gotten beat out by a true freshman
and a revolving door at RT.
They need some dudes to step up in this department and I think everything improves.

So, in short form, the AHC / PGC / QWRC.
All he needs to do now is take a few exams and he can be a PMP and a CPA too, right?

how many(few) of our coaches are NOT also titled 'assistant head coach'?

so I'm hopeful last year wasn't all Pep and it was some systemic things. On the flip side, the drop off from a Jedd offense to a Pep offense seemed noticeable.

Call me crazy, but something tells me Jim Harbaugh know's more than we do about Football, and we should trust in that.

As a former coach, I've had seasons that we just went through "growing pains." However it was not my job to keep coaching them at a pee wee level because that is what they knew and they could do it better. My job was to keep teaching them as they would if they were accepted into colleges and some were, i.e. Ferris, GV, et. al. After experiencing a season like this - we didn't have losing seasons - just disappointing ones, they would bounce back because they were suddenly more experienced, or as experienced as those defending them. Oh yeah, a year can make a hell of a difference and I think if you start "coming down to their level" as if the defense isn't going to catch on to that as well, then you are making a huge mistake and shouldn't expect much growth the following year. As many wise posters have said, "Harbaugh knows far more about this game than any of us and he is the one chosen to lead us." If we were that fucking good at calling the game, maybe we'd be in AA and Jim would be writing about us. Not certain.

We can't be critical about anything?
All of the movement, title switching, coaches coming and leaving in a week... That's not cause for concern at all?

People using the line that "They are coaches, they know more than us."
Fine, fix it. It's a message board, we are welcome to be critical of the product. And the product on the field last year was crap.
February 1st, 2018 at 6:41 PM ^
Has also won as many P5 conference titles as most of us on this board have. He is more than qualified but he's not some football coaching demigod. The Hamilton promotion here is questionable based on last season but if this year goes pear shaped and Hamilton is retained, then we absolutely must question what the hell Harbaugh is doing

this could be an annual thing with Pep. I don't get a sense he likes the college ranks given how Wilton described his approach to coaching (as all business, stoic). Enos bolted once he knew that the pass-game coordinator title was not going to happen this year. And now in comes Roundtree to help with the WRs, which is a good addition as a grad assistant, but not a position coaching veteran like Zordich is for the DBs. Pep knows how to coach both QBs and WRs, but that is too many people for one guy and a grad assistant to cover. Especially since the WRs are so young. Brown has veteran coaches at every position.
What is our offensive identity for 2018? The coaches need to get on the same page in what went wrong last season and get after what needs to change to make sure it doesn't happen again. I think Warinner was hired to provide an independent assessment of the offensive issues and to help develop improvement strategies. The new S&C coaching staff will address the shortfalls JH called-out at the end of last season. Expect our OL to get leaner and a lot stronger in 2018. Michigan Football twitter is posting 6am workouts - old school. Go Blue !!!

Wait and see. This year will be another great opportunity. Top defense and a decent amount of skill on offense. Been hopeful for the past 40+ years. 2018 won't be any different. If it's similar to 2017, then I think it's pretty clear changes need to be made.
GO BLUE!!
