OT: CFP Final.. Pregame thread.. do you care?

Submitted by Amazinblu on January 9th, 2023 at 9:41 AM

The college season comes to a close this evening when TCU and Georgia meet in the CFP final.

I’ll have the game on in the background, but don’t think I’ll be watching it closely.

It would be fine with me if TCU found a way to win…

Will you watch the game?   Do you care who wins?  Any perspectives to share?

Only thing that would be good about TCU winning is that it would be a nice "feel good" story for college football, and it would be a huge stake in the SEC's heart for losing to a team full of guys that Georgia would never have even considered picking up the phone to recruit. I have no beef with Sonny Dykes and Max Duggan seems like a good dude.

But my wife is a UGA fan, and when it comes to losing I'm a petty, petty man. So I hope Georgia wipes TCU off the face of the Earth. I need to be able to tell myself "Well we weren't going to beat Georgia anyway."

If TCU pulls this off, all I'll be able to think for the next nine months and beyond is just how much of a golden opportunity Michigan blew, ABSOLUTELY SQUANDERED AND THREW AWAY, by giving TCU the game. TCU is not the better team. They are a very good team, but make no mistake, Michigan just gave them game. Plain and simple. Michigan made 4-5 catastrophic, uncharacteristic mistakes, all of which led to TCU points, and still only lost by six. Take just one away and Michigan wins. Take two of them away and Michigan even manages to win comfortably.

I hope Georgia wins 54-0. I need to feel like Michigan was not going to win it all no matter what happened in the Fiesta Bowl anyway.

New years eve I cared.  I was planning on watching the UGA/OSU game after a Michigan win.  Instead of being pissed the rest of the night I grabbed a 6 pack put some music on and relaxed in the hot tub.  I didnt want osu to win but I didnt have the heart to watch any more football.  I wont watch any of the game tonight but I'm hoping TCU beats UGA so Michigan losing to them won't be for nothing.

Not really, which is crazy given how much I mainline college football straight into my eyeballs for 4 months.  Still can't believe we lost to that utterly ridiculous team.  TCU will likely get destroyed by halftime and it will make me sad to remind me what could have been.

And you can bet your ass Georgia will get the high-leverage calls we didn't.  I predict frustration all around.

I've had a hard time justifying staying up that late to watch Monday night football for a long time already. I don't have that much more stake in the outcome now.

So, probably not?

Don't care, and if history is any guide I probably won't bother to watch.  If I'm still awake I'll probably have it on in the background if I remember.

I enjoy college football but once Michigan's season is over it's not something I pay much attention to.

no. dont really feel strongly about either team in a pos or negative way. TCU winning has good and bad things. georgia winning has good or bad things.

Anyone but UM winning is bad things.

usually when michigan loses to a team, i really want that team to lose. but somehow, I don't feel that way about TCU. Michigan beat Michigan in that game, not TCU. Really dumb. So if TCU wins it all, good for them. It's a Cinderella story.

I struggle to maintain an interest in college football after January 1st.

After winning the BIG, I was mostly satisfied with Michigan Football for the year. I attended the Fiesta Bowl, which was a cool experience (despite the outcome), but I didn't have the normal feels I get during the regular season.

But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

Go Blue.

I hope TCU wins. It’d be cool to to have a team that is considered like the 5th or 6th level in their own state win the CFP and knock off the mighty SEC. Even though seeing them win would be even more pain and think about “what could have been”

I will have the game on.  Good chance I will fall asleep during it.  I don't really care who wins but I prefer TCU.  I think December 31 TCU would have beating December 31 Georgia but I don't know about tonight.  That is why they play the game.

I kind of hope TCU does the same thing to Georgia they did to Michigan because first, misery loves company and second, M-TCU was an objectively exciting game and it would be nice to watch it without the existential pain of being on the wrong end of it.

No, I don't care. Still hurting from what could / should have been... When I watch Space Coyote's game clip analyses, I SMH. The award winning O line couldn't figure out the vaunted 3-3-5.

Probably not.  I HATE these Monday night Championship games.  I know why they don't do them on Friday night (the host cities sell many more hotel rooms over more days for a Monday night final), but Friday night would be ideal.  Two of the more memorable Championship games were on a Friday night (1987 & 2003 Fiesta Bowls) - I'd argue their date had a role in them being memorable as more people could stick with it through the end.

(January 2006 USC/Texas game was on a Wednesday, FWIW).

On a side note --- there's a slight chance this game might get delayed by thunderstorms tonight.  Huge storm rolling through LA the next 24 hours.  SoFi, of course, isn't completely enclosed.  Wouldn't that be bizarre.

Don't care but while I was very bummed that Michigan lost to TCU-   I was happy that we avoided the absolute Doomsday scenario of an OSU win then OSU getting to play TCU for a National Championship.  Thank you Lathan Ransom from OSU-   we will always love you for falling down in coverage!

Not a whole lot of interest other than it would be cool to have our only loss be against the team that won it all. If that happens, I just might see if I can get six buddies to go to the next Michigan v  sparty basketball game so each of us can wear tees representing the seven teams that defeated their football team. Might be fun - anyone in? Warning: you might draw the straw that makes you wear a osu tee...

I care. I wore a grey suit, purple shirt and purple and silver tie to court today just to upset all my colleagues. Also sent my kids to school wearing purple in spite of the school-wide request that all kids be dressed in red and black.

I probably won't watch game though.

Nope.  What I've come to discover is that I'm not a football fan.  Nor am I a college football fan.  I'm a Michigan football fan.

No, I'll catch the score tomorrow morning. I'll see highlights on ESPN as well.

It looks like each team has a 50% chance of winning but the outcome has no appeal to me.

I hate to sound this way but I literally won't watch. It's not sour grapes...I haven't watched a single playoff game that UM hasn't played in.

I was all geeked up the last two years and so excited for UM but it feels so much like a "really cool and important exhibition". So detached from regular season it just feels separate. Again, not downplaying it's important I would have gone had the made the NC game, but I don't feel any attachment to this game or even a "want to" to watch any playoff game without UM.

I think my thoughts above will change when the 12 team playoff starts and it will organically feel like the conclusion to the season vs whatever it is now a month later.

I don't care who wins.. Didnt have plans on watching it. Now that I'm sick and shacked up alone to prevent anyone else in house from getting sick, I'll probably watch out of boredom.

Our last two losses are to the teams playing tonight.  I have no interest in this game whatsoever, but my wife is a Georgia alum, so I have no choice.  She's even inviting people over, so I can't openly root for TCU.  I hope both teams lose by 50 tonight - lol.
