More Commitments......Undergraduate Admissions decisions went out today.

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on December 19th, 2018 at 4:18 PM

Well apparently we'll be adding more Wolverines today beyond the football players. Undergraduate admissions just sent out their emails to anybody who applied for Early Action by November 1st. Congratulations to all the newly minted Wolverines. I distinctly remember the day I got my letter in the mail. Sorry that your email message may be slightly less tangible but I'm sure its still sweet.

To those of you who were deferred.....DO NOT FREAK OUT!!!!! The University typically only fills what amounts to half the incoming class with the Early Action students. There is still a LOT of room. They'll start rolling admissions in mid to late January and keep doing groups until they feel like they've sent out enough acceptances to fill a class. In many cases it just means they want a look at your fall grades so if you kicked butt in the fall, MAKE SURE YOU SUBMIT YOUR GRADES AS SOON AS YOU CAN.

I remember getting a big packet in the mail.  You knew you were accepted when you saw it.  If you were rejected or deferred by a school, you only got a thin envelope.

Having it all be revealed in an email message is extra suspenseful.

I remember that envelope, too.  My future college roommate (and high school buddy) got his acceptance a few months after I got mine.  We agreed to be roommates and "got stuck" on North Campus (before the Engineering School moved there).  Turned out to be a great experience living in Bursley for two years.

Congrats to everyone that got accepted today!

I remember I actually got a call by the Admissions office on my birthday that I was accepted.  That was pretty cool.  Thank God, since I didn't apply anywhere else!!  And it wasn't a 4 year decision, I've been getting crushed by my favorite football team for over 30 years!  Wouldn't have it any other way.

Congrats to any of you who have kids who get accepted.  That's pretty awesome especially since I know it's a lot harder to get in any good school these days let alone the top public university in the country.

My son got in!  If he commits to Michigan, he’ll be a third-generation Wolverine, joining my wife and me, my parents, and various other relatives.

Really proud and happy for him. He was not a slam dunk to be admitted. Had a strong (but not outstanding) high school performance after really struggling in middle school, so could not have foreseen this happening even three years ago.

Extracurriculars are not particularly outstanding.  What we all have to remember is that they are trying to build a well-rounded class, which results in some randomness in terms of who gets admitted.

My son has - for U of M - an average GPA.  ACT, though, is well above U of M's average.  GPA has increased each year in high school.  Attends a rigorous private school that sends a lot of kids to U of M...and who do very well at U of M.  Excellent essays, which really showed his personality.  Legacy status, I'm a long-time football and basketball season ticket holder, etc.

Woo hoo!  Congrats! Same here. Son got in today. Husband and I both went there. My Grandfather was class of 1927, all four of my siblings went as well. It has been a great day in our house!! Son works hard and knocked the ACT out of the park and is top two in class. Incredibly proud parent moment. Still waiting to hear from more schools, but his heart is in Ann Arbor!

I was going on my way to school and somebody had cut me off. I was about to have a little road rage, like, 'what are you doing?' Right on the back on that window they had a Michigan little sticker on the back. I was like, 'dang, that's crazy.' That's the first sign I ever got. That was really like, 'okay, I see where he's guiding me.' It's just been constant... constant Michigan stuff that's been putting in my face. That's why I'm choosing Michigan."

I literally just started screaming "Fuck" over and over when I was admitted. The value of the degree has seemingly only gotten more valuable over time. Extremely appreciative of the opportunity and experience.

Thanks for highlighting this!

Congrats to all new Wolverines, as a person who was deferred and then admitted (to the honors college) after submitting fall semester grades very much do not give up hope.

Hell yeah!!!!   Daughter got deferred then waitlisted two years ago.  She never got in and we were all bummed for Christmas.  But my son got in today!  Even my daughter that didn’t get accepted had tears of joy for him.  It was a very special moment.  And congrats to all those with MGoFamilies that are feeling what we are feeling today.  For those that didn’t, keep your head up.  Things will work out just like they did for my daughter.

I remember the first letter I got was a small letter.  That was an admission deferral letter.  Then about 6 months later I received a denial letter.  I was pretty devastated.  I went to community college (Michigan State) for 2 years and had a 3.9 GPA.  I applied again to UMich, and this time I received a big acceptance package.  I graduated, and now when Michigan calls for money, I tell them I am and deferring my decision to give money until a later time.  Long story short, there is always hope to earn a Michigan degree even if you are one of the people that get a small letter.

Dying to find out tomorrow which kids for whom I wrote recommendations got in and which ones we need plan B.  (I'm two for two on helping get a deferred kid in during the last two cycles, so we'll see what happens.)

My oldest son just got the good news 15 minutes ago in email!  I'm absolutely thrilled, and the wallet's surprisingly happy, too, keeping him in-state.  Can't wait to walk the campus again, this time as the proud pop.  Pulling for everyone on the board waiting on the news for their kids, be it today or in the coming months!

Congrats to the kids who were accepted and the parents!  Fingers crossed for anyone who was deferred.

My son was accepted today.  LSA, plans to major in chemistry and go to med school.  I'm not sure if I've ever wanted anything as much as he wanted to attend Michigan.  His mom and I are incredibly proud of him.

Congrats to all that got in. You will never forget the moment.

In my case, I completed my application the first day they accepted them (Aug 1st back in '72). I received a very thin envelope on Sept 7th with a letter printed with a dot matrix printer saying I was accepted. There wasn't even a signature. Times have changed.

Funny how things have changed.  I sent my application in on a Monday in August 1991.  I received my acceptance letter 11 days later.  It was the only school i even applied to. It’s crazy what these kids have to go through these days.

Daughter just got in to college of engineering (from out-of-state alas). If she goes, she'll be a third gen Wolverine (of sorts). Her grandad a prof, me (dad) and my sister (her aunt), and her. Go blue! We're super excited!

My son received his letter a few years back (this time in 2013) and a packet a few weeks later.

His acceptance letter and diploma are now in nice frames.

U of M also sent a congratulations letter to my wife and I as a nice gesture; still have it.

Congratulations and GO BLUE!!!
