Yes, we should judge people…

Yes, we should judge people on how they deal with success more so than how they deal with difficult situations. The Astros were wrong for firing Hinch.  If the astros would have just been happy about winning a World Series instead of how the sausage is made.

Why can’t Michigan just dump…

Why can’t Michigan just dump a bunch of money on recruits and see if it works?  Can kids not be transformed if they have money as an obstacle removed?  This is the dumbest strategy ever employed by a university that pays coaches professional salaries. Michigan builds in an excuse for failing because everyone else is cheating in their eyes and is actively trying to convince the fan base to side with them in their quest for program purity. No one gives a crap about how you get the recruits or how much you pay out. Do you think Texas fans are upset about incoming freshman being multi-millionaires? Get real, They want a winner.  When did Michigan become the fan base for wanting anything other than a national championship?  Michigan wants the satisfaction of the once in a century championship to mean something more than winning a bunch of titles?

Cause we all know hoarding a…

Cause we all know hoarding a bunch of top 100 recruits never amounted to any sustained success.

It’s sad this is what is…

It’s sad this is what is believed. How strong a relationship will a player have with a staff that is only interested in him because of his athletic prowess and only wanted him to attend their fine university because of such athletic prowess. If you are a top recruit you take the money everyday and twice on Tuesday.

If relationships are winning the recruiting war, it sure seems weird that new staffs are about to out recruit programs that have developed relationships. How does Michigan trail Oregon for a player they recruited since middle school?  Money talks and BS walks.

In order to block the big 10…

In order to block the big 10, the SEC would have to guarantee a path to the playoffs.  So how does the SEC accomplish this without sacrificing one of their spots for a non-conference member?  With no playoff access, ND’s hand is forced.

Couldn’t the big 10 call…

Couldn’t the big 10 call Norte dame’s bluff about aligning with the sec?  If the big 10 and the sec created a playoff, the big 10 could squeeze any notion of a 3rd party team being in the playoffs unless the sec wants to give up one of their selections in the playoffs to Norte dame.  There’s no way the SEC would give up a spot for a non-conference member. And there’s no way Norte dame joins the SEC.

Ahhh yes, it’s working…

Ahhh yes, it’s working amazing. The pride of the big 10 in nil, good ol’ Michigan. You won’t have to worry about dividing a locker room because there won’t be one. It’s amazing that the university would reward these athletes with a scholarship before they even played a down. They should have to at least dress for a game to get a meal plan.

I’m upset no one is bragging…

I’m upset no one is bragging about getting a bag at Michigan. That’s what I am upset about. Not one recruit. Now look at that recruiting class and tell me about how we are worried Michigan is paying athletes too much.

They aren’t right now and…

They aren’t right now and might not be until signing day is over.

This move probably helps…

This move probably helps Michigan with Dante considering Oregon right now will be in a worthless conference in 2024.

If Michigan could figure out…

If Michigan could figure out a way to make recruits pay for attending the university, I believe that transformational experience would be even greater.

The recruiting debacle…

The recruiting debacle proves nothing. You honestly believe Gary turned down 6 figures to come to Michigan for the transformational experience?

At least EMU knows you have…

At least EMU knows you have to offer 7 figures to get a qb that makes a difference.

Well with Michigan’s current…

Well with Michigan’s current nil stance, we will for sure still be in the mix for the next Cade.

What is the transformational…

What is the transformational experience harbaugh receives at Michigan?  The one where he chased a coaching job at Minnesota of all places?  Was that the non-transaction experience, because he loved Michigan so much he jumped on a plane after getting his stock up to command an interview to get out of dodge?  How many recruiting failures will it take before Michigan says what everyone knows they are going to say in the future, how much do you need to sign with Michigan?  Being out recruited by MSU is not sustainable and Michigan will turn into northwestern.  MSU will own the rivalry this century, but thank goodness our alumni didn’t have to lose too much money using a tax deduction.

College athletes, if they…

College athletes, if they are great, only last 3 years in college and typically only produce on the field for 2 of the years.  That athlete could get injured the ala Luigi and be nothing in terms of production or bail after 1 year like Frankie, but Michigan won’t sniff top shelf talent if won’t play today’s game. Michigan might as well petition to join the Ivy League.

A sample size of 2 isn’t…

A sample size of 2 isn’t large enough. We had a donor, before the pandemic, pay for the entire football team to travel international. Your 2 idiot friends had no problem with Michigan paying coaches professional salaries but when it comes to paying the talent that is a bridge too far?

Michigan found a way to give…

Michigan found a way to give the football team study abroad trips costing millions of dollars but can’t figure out what Texas teams do in terms of NIL?  I guess Michigan can toss out the slogan leaders and best and go with left behind and slightly above average.

A little off topic but I can…

A little off topic but I can envision Michigan playing Norte dame next month if Michigan takes care of business next week. How the network would love that game.

Texas proves otherwise. Top…

Texas proves otherwise. Top 10 percent of students are guaranteed admission from every high school in the state to public universities except UT where it is 6% regardless of test scores. There’s even been documentaries about the success and some failures of the system. Students that perform well in the classroom but didn’t attend a high performance school were at a disadvantage compared to their peers but if they were provided resources to supplement their learning the first two years their outcomes were near the top of their peers.

We experience time travel…

We experience time travel every time we take a ride on an airplane. Time moves slower the faster we travel.

Standardized tests are still…

Standardized tests are still used at the state level for proficiency at each grade level in varying subjects. The need for an additional test seems unnecessary and universities have no problem weeding out students that perform poorly.  Each college inside a university tend to evaluate prospective students based on a myriad of factors that aren’t based on a test score.

Students that perform well in a classroom setting should not be held back because of a test.  If that means universities have to invest more in some remedial courses, because less affluent schools were deficient in providing adequate learning opportunities then so be it.  Location of where you attend school should not dictate your entire life and the opportunities you are afforded.

The problem with the offense…

The problem with the offense is that it resembles something from the 80s. We are not going to land top wide receiver talent with an offense where they are called on to block 99% of the plays called. The tight ends barely make a difference in the passing game. Where’s the speed in space?  McNamara is just not good enough to make plays down the field consistently and doesn’t have the “it” factor and won’t be drafted. If we are just going to run the ball up the gut, then McNamara can assume the position he is destined for and play backup.

So it’s fine for a…

So it’s fine for a university to restrict students earnings for their own personal profit but the students aren’t allowed to even slightly infringe on the earning potential of their intellectual property?  Sounds like horse excrement to me.

I don’t understand it…

I don’t understand it. Universities have profited off the students intellectual property (NIL) for decades and in perpetuity until the O'Bannon decision.  The students want to profit off the university logo and the university is like FU.  The universities didn’t care about how this would negatively impact the athlete but now the athlete must take into consideration the negative economic impact wearing the school logo outside the sporting telecast?  If they want to restrict the logo, pay the players like every other professional sports league.

Next time just rewatch the…

Next time just rewatch the big Lebowski. Sometimes you eat the bar…

It does provide a positive…

It does provide a positive return for the business. It associates the business with the university in the minds of the consumer. The university makes an investment in the student even though half of the scholarship players will not make a play and yet they’re not changing the scholarship model to only players who play.  If the football team does well, the local business community does very well. I bet if you studied the local economy of Tuscaloosa prior to nick saban and every year after he arrived you will notice they probably owe the players more money than they handed them under the table.

I wish the brain trust at…

I wish the brain trust at mgoblog would make up their mind about the purity of the Michigan program in relation to paying players. No one believes that Gary turned down 300k to attend Michigan over Clemson. Can we stop with the fantasy that Michigan is/was above paying players?  Does the SEC do it better? Yes, but that’s a Michigan flaw more so than a stain on the SEC.

Any chance we are sitting…

Any chance we are sitting strong on a big man for 23 that can reclassify for 22?

Red drinks and items are for…

Red drinks and items are for winners.

I find the article pretty…

I find the article pretty funny. The sport of football as well as all other sports encourages cheating during the game. Every offensive lineman holds a defensive lineman in a majority of the snaps. How many times a game in the last couple of years has holding been called when Michigan had above average and NFL caliber players on the d-line?  Not as much as they were be held, I guarantee you that. How many games did Michigan corners get away with holding receivers?  There’s only one game I recall where the refs made an issue of it and it cost Michigan the game.  If penalties were called for every infraction during a game, the game would last 6 hours.  Coaches tell their players to cheat because they won’t call every penalty. Now these same coaches are acting like they don’t break the rules, and people believe that garbage.

The rule of tampering needs…

The rule of tampering needs to be done away with altogether. If coaches can interview for other jobs while under legal contract and getting paid a lot more than a scholarship then holding students accountable for an offense that no one takes issue with in the coaching ranks of the sport should be obsolete. These students should be free to pursue the best opportunity afforded to them at any time in their life just as a non-student athlete that is on a full scholarship is allowed to pursue their best interests.  No is telling the science major kid that if he transfers up to MIT that he has to put off his science pursuits for a year. We can’t have MIT hoarding all the science kids, it’s not fair. Nothing in this country is about fairness. To the victors the spoils.

Do you believe kids that…

Do you believe kids that took the g-league route will be drafted ahead of the one and dones?  It seems like the first few picks in this years class are going to be college kids, so I am wondering if the college exposure actually helps draft position outside of generational talent like lebron who were no doubt number 1 draft picks.

I have a theory of smith’s…

I have a theory of smith’s struggles and I doubt it has anything to do with length since I suspect he’s always going to be shorter than his defender, save a few rare exceptions. I believe mike struggles on short rest. Big ten tourney first game broke records, 2nd game the next day sub par. I haven’t researched his game stats this season, but I am willing to bet his stats decline the quicker he plays following a game.  Brown tends to be the opposite. The longer he rests the rustier he looks.  First game of the tournament, he was a non-factor.  Second game, really locked in.

They get what handed to them…

They get what handed to them?  You have state universities paying coaches more money than every other public employee in the state.  Are you telling me that coaching college ball is deserving of 300X more pay than a high school coach at a public high school?  If you do believe that, what does that tell you about what the athletes they are coaching deserve?   Look at the free education high school kids are receiving with their free lunch for the poor kids, so the school can charge a door fee as well as profit from concession sales to supplement the funding of the high school. Stop with nonsense about a free education.  Michigan now provides free tuition for low income students in state with no strings attached about how they can make money.

I thought I heard on the telecast that airnado hasn’t played a game since some date in November. If true, I would expect the outside shooting to improve after a few games bunched together. The unforced turnovers should also improve.

You would think he would have done better financially with the ability of turning water into wine...he could have put grape growers out of business.

If I make it harder for guns…

If I make it harder for guns to be accessed, I limit the opportunity for gun violence. Other countries have had liberal gun ownership like the US and then made it restrictive and what were the results?  If I can’t get a gun as easy as going to local Walmart, if I can’t buy the ammo, if I can’t publicly display a gun without fear of arrest....the opportunities for mass shootings goes down.  Gang gun violence decreases.

you can never eliminate a problem, but you can make it harder for it to occur. Terrorists using airplanes on a regular basis would bring air travel to a halt and bankrupt the airline industry.  So it was a necessity to minimize that threat, we still ended up with the shoe bomber post 9-11.  We locked up the cockpit of planes instead of having kids visit the flight crew. We don’t sell weapons after the security checkpoint to make it easier to commit the act.   You can’t solve the misguided minds, but you can limit the ability of them to do harm instead of making it easier to commit the act.

So you think guns is the…

So you think guns is the thing that would protect you from the government?  How did that work for the people of Waco?  You think the second amendment is going to save the people from the government?  How well did the constitution protect Japanese-Americans from internment camps during ww2?  No matter how well armed you or any group you associate with, is going to stop the government from being evil if it so chooses. Imagine a civil war today, if you lived in a state that seceded from the country for reasons of it being evil, you think you win that war?  You think you're winning a drone war with your guns?  Our government has been killing millions of people post 9-11 and a lot of them were armed with more sophisticated weapons than we possess as citizens of this country. There’s plenty of countries that exist currently that have stricter gun laws and haven’t started an extermination campaign against its citizens.

Who said anything about…

Who said anything about towers?  I only mentioned hi jacking of planes.  Do you dispute the planes were hi jacked?  Do we not have different procedures for boarding planes post 9-11?  You can believe whatever conspiracy theory your heart desires, but no one has ever argued the planes weren’t hi jacked.

We had a record low number…

We had a record low number of hijackers before 9-11, did we not institute measures to mitigate future hijackings?  The lesson is you do something to minimize the harm.  We didn’t have a large number of people being killed by automatic weapons and rocket launchers yet we don’t allow civilians to own them.

The top 5 in the state is…

The top 5 in the state is the intriguing tidbit.  Bell isn’t from the state and I am not sure he would have been considered top 5 considering his offer list.

EMUs coach would be better. 3 straight wins over big 10 opponents with no stars. Imagine what he would do with talent.

Do lower division schools…

Do lower division schools offer scholarships?  There’s no scholarship for Ivy League sports.  The absence of scholarships or money doesn’t preclude a sport from existing.  There’s stricter limits on non revenue sports in terms of scholarship numbers and full rides and those teams exist and compete.

Hey kids like Tebow don’t have to make money off their image if they choose not to, but why should their beliefs be considered above those that wish to capitalize?  I thought this was America.  Limiting compensation is beneficial to whom?  These football games are 3 hour infomercials for universities.
