March Madness Day Two

Submitted by VCavman24 on March 22nd, 2024 at 1:09 PM

Day two of March Madness is underway!  Florida Atlantic leads Northwestern, 20-19, at halftime.  Some great basketball is being played there...  Baylor leads Colgate by 10 points early.

The biggest story from yesterday was of course Oakland beating Kentucky.  Also somewhat interestingly, huge amounts of people seem to think Oakland is located in California, not in Michigan...

What games are you looking forward to today?  What will the upsets be?

CC: Chris Collins

Turns 50 next month.  Makes less than $3M.  Arguably done more with less in a P5.  Worked miracles at NW.

Definitely preferable to Hoiberg.  With better resources, could be a stronger recruiter.  Already does well in the portal.

Question for all the FAU backers here:

Did you always root passionately against all other B10 teams, or is this a more recent development resulting from how the B10 treats Michigan?

I'm going to date myself here, but I rooted for Magic over Bird, Isaiah over Worthy & Perkins, Illini over Heels...

Somewhere it changed. What about others. Did the B10 bring our enmity upon itself, and if so when?

People need to remember this is one game. Candidates who are/were on our board are because of their whole body of work, their whole resume not what they do in this week or two. I still think Dusty would be a good pick. If I’m not mistaken he could bring some of these players with him potentially which would make the rebuild obviously go smoother. One game’s performance should not overshadow the whole body of work.

This is a good point. If the FAU player had sank his 2 free throws on the 1-and-1 to put FAU up 4, FAU most likely wins that game and the conversation would be completely different.

With that said, these games can also be an indicator if a coach has a glaring weakness or if a supposed strength is actually more hype than anything (especially when mid-majors play a major conference team).

Not for people who watched the game. Although the Collins backers feel vindicated because they won so maybe I'm wrong.

But anyway, all FAU really needed was their best player to do something other than dribble out the clock in a tie game.

The more games I watch, the more I think the refs are being paid off by Vegas. There's just too many blown/missed calls that affect the outcome of games. And I read something the other day about how a NBA coach was receiving death threats from gamblers for taking players out with the lead but not the spread. And then I see the whole Shotei thing going on and it's abundantly clear that the sports leagues should never have gotten in bed with Vegas.

The SDSU game had several jaw dropping calls against the Aztecs. There was one with like a minute to go they called on LeDee (his forth) where he went up for a rebound and literally did not touch anyone.

It was amazing to watch on replay. I have no idea what the ref imagined he saw.

FYI the coach was the Cavs coach - Bickerstaff

I too, though, am convinced refs are being paid off - but the leagues getting into bed with Vegas/Draft Kings etc only made the existing problem worse.

The NBA is a total sham with its refs clearly betting on games.
