Is Livers hurt?
Only 15 minutes today. Number of tweets saying viewers saw him limping slightly. Also a number saying he was benched for playing poorly.

Maybe?

Magic 8 Ball says “Definitely.”

I've also heard some (fairly credible, but unconfirmed) rumors that Livers is hurt, possibly done for the year. I hope as much as you guys that this isn't true (or that it isn't as bad as being reported).

Ugh.
Definitely hoping the stress fracture/out for season rumors are not true, but he is absolutely hurt. Someone with inside knowledge of the program confirmed that he got hurt in practice before Maryland.
Denial is the first stage in the grieving process. It is a powerful coping mechanism for initial disappointment. Unfortunately, anger is the second stage...
You are a poster that has credibly as someone who knows stiff. Your post came off with levity. Did you mean it that way?
Interview with Martelli confirms that his foot is injured, which was why the rotation was different: https://www.inquirer.com/sports/phil-martelli-michigan-juwan-howard-ejection-20210313.html
Way.
nice attempt
Not sure if he was hurt but definitely played poorly while he was in there. He is the one player that tends to float at times. Unfortunately this has been a recent trend. He needs to take a page out of Browns game and show some real effort if this team is to get where they want to. Not only Brown, but Davis, and Johns off the bench showed much more fire and effort than Livers.
I have never in my life seen Livers play without effort/fire. That dude lives and breathes to win game for Michigan. He didn't play well today and it's absolutely fine to call that out. But to question his effort is out of line

I agree with you, this kid has been team first since he got to campus, some times to a fault. I think what some people see is the games where things come so easily to Livers based on his skill set and the way his team is playing that they expect that. He benefits when Dickinson plays well because it creates space that he thrives on but doesn’t always do on his own. He lets the game come to him. That said, I would like to see him force the issue once or twice other than shooting a 3, he tried one post fade and I don’t remember him going down hill at all today. Miss a shot or draw a charge that’s ok, sometimes he makes a tough bucket and it springs him. My last comment is thank you for defending him, because watch the post game videos, watch his demeanor on the sidelines, he didn’t care about the NBA, he didn’t care about his goose egg. He cared about M.
agree. and he's usually very unselfish. Some games he becomes invisible offensively and I think this is what the poster meant. But even in those games, you'll see if he scores few points he usually is in the top 3 in rebounds and assists, etc. He's active and competitve.
edit: I refuse to take responsibility for this triple post.

Don't think so. But Turgeon was certainly butthurt today.
Juwan has been living in Turgeon's head rent free since New Years Eve.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:00 PM ^
Turgeon pays Juwan rent to stay in his own head.
I think this in part stems from Hunter bullying Turgeon on national TV while he sat helpless on the bench. Repeatedly and to a level that earned a technical foul. Can you imagine the levels of frustration that have been brewing in Turgeon's heart since then?
And then to get bullied again in the BTT for 3 straight losses?
It's a sad sight to see.

He's not 100%. Hurt himself during the 1st Sparty game. Go back and look. Could see him grimace on the And 1 late in the 1st half vs Maryland
But when a lineup is working why change it? Were you going to sit Brown or Wagner or Brooks during the end game stretch?
Hopefully he will be fine by next weekend
He's got a crapload of that weird tape on one of his shoulders. I think he's still hurting from the OSU turnover when he fell on it after the and 1.
He does seem a bit off. He had a couple wide open threes that he usually nails- nothing was falling for him.
This seems like a perfect Drake Meme
Michgan fans worry about Brooks Injury / Livers injury.
I hope this game gives Johns confidence at the 5 and Howard confidence to use him. There's hyper athletic teams that a bad matchup for Davis.
If this season is derailed because Castleton transferred I'm going to beside myself
March 12th, 2021 at 11:16 PM ^
It was the Illinois game IIRC.
Chris Balas said after the game that Howard said Livers has to play better. That doesn’t sound like hurt to me.
You don't bench Livers for the last 15 minutes of game action for playing "poorly."
I tried to watch him after @umhoops tweeted about it, thought i saw him sitting in the bleacher area in uniform with no visible bracing, but not playing.
Seems like he must be dinged. Enough to miss the OSU game? Who knows? I would guess any lost time would be precautionary only, but that's just a guess. A guy just sitting on the bench and not leaving or getting worked on doesn't seem to be something the team is too worried about, though.
I think he's hurt too. He isn't playing like himself. As a starter, a senior leader on the team I don't think he'd take a benching that well. He knows he's hurt, coach knows his hurt, they just aren't announcing it right now because they don't want other teams to know.
Didn’t look right to me. Slow heavy feet.
Livers definitely looked unusually sluggish and slow-footed. Aside from his weak, front-rim shooting, Maryland players were blowing by him.
Brooks started out weak on his shots, not Livers. Livers fired up one three that almost broke the backboard. Howard pulled him after that.
Brown can be hit or miss, but when he’s a hit, he provides everything and more than Livers can when Livers shot isn’t there. Brown can get hot from deep and is a better penetrator. I’m not saying as a whole Brown is a better option than Livers (gotta take 6’7 over 6’4), but if Livers’ shot is off and Brown is on, it’s a no brainer
March 12th, 2021 at 10:06 PM ^
Livers sometimes struggles to find other ways to score when his 3 point shots aren't falling for him in a game.
He can drive and post up a little on the offensive end, but his best scoring attribute this season has been his 3 point shooting, which is over 40 percent.
Franz has developed that long striding layup to the basket move to help him score points, especially when his perimeter shooting isn't good.
I believe Coach Howard realized that certain bench guys were playing well and didn't deserve to be pulled for Livers.
Though that still doesn't mean Livers isn't dealing with an injury.
Livers has been money in the post this season with his mid-range fadeaway. He’s at the very least dinged! You don’t go from playing at an All-B1G level to an afterthought this quickly. The guy has been a starter since his Freshman year. If Livers is 100% no way he sits for as long as he did. He’s been too consistent on both ends for that to happen.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:11 PM ^
Michigan went 3 guards with Smith, Brooks and Brown, and it was working. So why change it? Maryland did not have size.
But we need Livers if we want to make a tournament run.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:11 PM ^
There's a rumor flying around that Livers is out for the year with a stress fracture.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:23 PM ^
The Wolverine now starting to report on it.
Because of course.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:23 PM ^
I would be interested in who is that embedded with the team to claim that and not know what Turgeon said.
Not like they are on campus, where these rumors from 1st person accounts can be interesting.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:13 PM ^
Eli has a sprained ankle and playing with a brace and still scored 16. Sometimes Livers disappears offensively. One of the things that sets Livers back is his weak dribbling, it makes it hard for him to go past people. He’s a 3 and D player. He is capable of going off of his shot is falling. Glad to have him on the team either way.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:22 PM ^
I hope you don't think we're going to get better ball-handling from Brown.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:27 PM ^
I don’t, no. Brown settles for too many threes and is successful when he drives to the basket but doesn’t do it enough.
Livers is the 2nd leading scorer, less than 1 point behind Dickinson. It's dumb that so many fans think he's just some minor role player.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:22 PM ^
Yeah some guy on UM Hoops said he's done for the year.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:26 PM ^
Lots of Twitter chatter that he has a broken foot and is out for the rest of the year.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:27 PM ^
If true, it's time for Johns to become a man and get a lot of minutes. He's going to have to do some heavy lifting.
It was the 2017 BTT when DJ Wilson blew up and became a first round draft pick.
Here's hoping that Brandon Johns follows that script. He certainly played great vs. Maryland.
March 12th, 2021 at 10:28 PM ^
Wouldn’t that just fucking figure.
