Josh Henschke: Karmello English gone from team
If I were a star WR, I would be delighted to be the indisputable WR1 on a former championship team before the season even starts. Maybe that's just me.
The problem is you're still gonna end up with like 500 yards
Star receivers would rather go to an offense that’s going to feature them as part of the offense and put up big numbers and get drafted high. Most years our top receiver has like 600 yards and nobody else cracks 500.
Star WRs don’t really care if you won a national title last year. They want to get the ball and get drafted. Not block for your running back so the team can win. That’s the reality. Anyone worth a damn entering the portal will be doing so to showcase their skills and increase draft stock. Easier to do that in a pass heavy offense than at Michigan
Let’s be honest. Michigans #1 and #2 receivers are our TEs. Also being our #1 receiver means your counted to block, a lot, more than a lot of other teams tight ends.
schematically, we shouldn’t be getting 4 star WRs.

If you were a star WR, you'd be an absolute fool to commit to Michigan until they prove they can do more with the offense than run the ball.
Planks can help with that.
If they don't pick up some receivers in the portal, and I mean good talented receivers, then the depth at that position will be scary in a bad way. I get Michigan is a run first team, but to only have 2-3 experienced receivers and 2 freshman along with an unproven quarterback is really going to hamper scoring this year. Hopefully the running backs can prove to be the best in the country, and the defense can score a lot, if not, then it will be a long season.
English wasn’t experienced. His loss hurts more for 25 than 24.
He's still more experienced than true frosh or thin air.
As long as they stay healthy, Mo^3 should be fine for 24. But if Morris blows up and heads off to the NFL for 25 (along with the sure departure of The Don), then it's yet another position that could be lacking in 25.
UM would return most of its offense in 2025 including its QB. Defensive would be a reload, but there is young talent there familiar with the scheme.
I mean it's 2 and we are pushing it. Morgan had 23 catches and Morris 13. For perspective DE had 30. Clemons and Moore had some nice coffees out there in September against nobodies. (English had 1)
Time to bring back the wishbone which would solve the WR recruiting issue
If by 'long season' you mean winning a lot of games with scores like 23-13 and averaging 3 FG's/game, I'm here for it.
Payton O’Leary szn
I'll take this to mean that another receiver was looking like he passed him after the first week of practice.
Again, he wasn't in the portal, so there's something else.
Is the portal open again yet?
I’m with you. I don’t think he can enter the portal yet. I believe he has to wait until the next window opens. I guess he could announce he’s going to enter the portal, but he would’ve had to made that decision a few weeks ago for him to actually be listed in the transfer portal.
April 15-30.
Good shit CRG. My bad JHumich. I'm terrible. Neg for me.

Failed English?
You speak english, Bobby
Dangit Bobby
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Odd considering he was in line for a lot of snaps. Best of luck to him
4 guys played more than him last year who return (2 barely of course) but 2 of them were in his class. So no guarantee of anything.
We should have a few open scholarships now and can go after a few players in the portal. I think it reopens April 15th and closes April 30th. So we should have a couple of weeks with some action here soon.
Per twitter he has announced that he will be entering the portal.
I'm not sure that scholarship count has or had any effect on taking transfers.
Does the number of available scholarships really matter any more? Is it possible for someone with high NIL income (e.g., JJ McCarthy) to decline a scholarship, so that the 85 limit effectively gets bumped to 86? Or do you get enough NIL to someone like O'Leary so you don't have to use a scholarship for him? Or better yet, an in-stater for whom less NIL would be needed to cover tuition.
I don't remember who posted an interview with Cam Goode yesterday however, he said that his scholarship for 23-24 was given to a younger player and his tuition was paid with NIL.
Found it.

Our WR room is looking painfully sparse and probably will continue to unless we land a name QB from the portal. I don’t see top tier receivers transferring to M for Jack Tuttle or a bunch of totally unproven 3-star types.
Especially when it appears to transfers that we will be running the ball >60% of the time, and throwing to TE/RB a bunch too.
Huh... I forgot he was on the team, or thought he transferred. I'm not sure which... Either way, I'm not sure it changes the playing time calculations.
This would be a great opportunity for Moore to differentiate his offensive philosophy from Harbaugh. Here's hoping for some more diverse route tree concepts and opportunities for guys to showcase themselves this year!
Seconded.
With our QB situation? I dunno.
Maybe with the Orji offense we need split out Max Bredeson types to terrorize defensive backfields and every so often sneak by them. Kenneth Grant types would also do, but they're hard to find.
But when you do find them, they are coming at you, twice your size, and they run faster than you.
Kendrick Bell
I’Marion Stewart
Tyler Morris
Channing Goodwin
Frederick Moore
Semaj Morgan
Peyton O’Leary
I suspect Cabana is moved to WR for depth purposes.
That sounds like a terrible idea for one year as the #6 WR
Will definitely need 1or 2 out of the Portal. Would love for O’Leary to pitch in 20-25 catches this season.
Good luck to the young man. Too bad it didn’t work out for him here.
